This doesn’t seem to have been mentioned yet. A new 72 kW 2-stall Supercharger has just opened in South Padre Island, Texas at the Schlitterbahn Beach Resort in South Padre Island. Link to the location: Find Us | Tesla Will update Supercharge Info
Right, South Padre Island, TX is not far from Boca Chica, TX. It's across a channel so the drive is a 39 mile loop round. But once SpaceX is active, there will be more people needing charging.
A nice surprise, two better than none. Hopefully they put a lot of Superchargers in Harlingen as everyone driving down for launches will pass through there.
That's great! I was there only a month ago, staying at the Pearl hotel, which has 4 or 5 wall very convenient wall connectors. What a nice surprise. 2 stalls - smallest in Texas? If you visit the area, watch your speed.
This photo is from 2 days prior to the opening. It is one of those Urban Supercharger pallets with 3 connectors. Again, if this can be clarified, do all 3 stalls work? Photo from __ on PlugShare.
Bizarre. How are 2 Tesla's supposed to pull up on one side? Is it open to all or just to Schlitterbahn customers? edit: and already ICEd!
As far as I understand with this pallet only 2 stalls can be active, as it has just one cabinet. It has three so it can accommodate different parking patterns, but one is always disabled.
How the @%#$! did that happen? I just stayed at that hotel Oct 2-6, and there was absolutely no sign of that anywhere. (Edit) There are several things wrong with this site's information. Schlitterbahn (the company) went bankrupt earlier this year and the holding company sold off its assets. This site is now owned by Holiday Inn and is no longer known as Schlitterbahn, although there is a lot of historical info with that name (including maps, GPS etc.). It is now known as BeachPark at Isla Blanca. When I stayed there in October, we were renting from a holding company. We were told that Holiday Inn was taking over the following week with a new name (not disclosed at the time). This Supercharger went in after that. I can't believe that Tesla would or could use the old property name. I don't recognize the building in the picture. The name "Tower A" sounds more like one of the buildings next door. That does not look like the front door of the old Schlitterbahn hotel. We need more pictures.
The background building looks just like the Pearl hotel. The first picture shows the Pearl, with the sticky-up part in the middle. This photo is looking NW. https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x8668605b7947eef3%3A0xb5d676fac370633d!3m1!7e115!4shttps%3A%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipMrhYmPk7LqWLLXCbatRTlsKwPPBbsTtNN2PC8W%3Dw482-h320-k-no!5spearl%20south%20padre%20-%20Google%20Search!15sCAQ&imagekey=!1e1!2shttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.iceportal.com%2Fdata%2F2813-87780-f3862649_XXLejpg%2FUnited-States%2FTexas-TX%2FSouth-Padre-Island%2FHotel%2FPearl-South-Padre-Island-Resort%2FPhoto%2FPearl-South-Padre-Island-Resort-South-Padre-Island-Exterior-view-Hotel-Exterior-from-Beach.jpg&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj1m_uCluflAhUMKa0KHWE5BAYQoiowC3oECA8QBg The second photo, taken from the Pearl, looks almost directly at what must be the SC location, just to the right of center. This photo is pointing SW. https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x8668605b7947eef3%3A0xb5d676fac370633d!3m1!7e115!4shttps%3A%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipMrhYmPk7LqWLLXCbatRTlsKwPPBbsTtNN2PC8W%3Dw482-h320-k-no!5spearl%20south%20padre%20-%20Google%20Search!15sCAQ&imagekey=!1e10!2sAF1QipOF6isrD8mQDbwykd7F16g3LoEKkDXhri_ykVR1&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj1m_uCluflAhUMKa0KHWE5BAYQoiowC3oECA8QBg
No surprise, it doesn’t show up in the car yet. Also no surprise, it does show up in plugshare. Glad to see their unofficial policy for superchargers is consistent.
This is great! Seems this almost “portable” charger will be easy to deliver and install! Would love to see one of these opened in Clayton NM!
Since this supercharger just popped up overnight, its a little suspicious. Maybe that's where Elon stays when he's in town.
Not that suspicious given that it would have taken about one day to set up a temporary supercharger. Basically no construction work whatsoever.
Eeeexcellent. I'll be driving down there in late January to check out Boca Chica, and this will make the trip go a little easier!
