Taillight upgrade for 2021 refresh?

Any thoughts on if us 2021 model s refresh owners will get an option to swap out for the new tail lights? Very disappointing that Tesla sold refreshed cars only to change the tail lights 6 months later.

I’m 99.99% sure Tesla will not offer a retrofit.
It’s not just the tail lights that are different, the chrome piece that goes from tail light to tail light would need to be replaced as well.

Too much work for not enough profit.

Yeah, that $10 trim piece (currently black) is what would stop them….

Absolutely. You’ll just have to trade the whole car to do it.

It's also surprising an aftermarket manufacturer has not come up with new lights for the Model S. The Model 3 has options, but the Model S has been around since 2013.

I know you’re being sarcastic but that’s exactly what would stop them. The profit margin to retrofit is just not there, especially when you consider some service centers have a months worth of backlog needing to take care of actual issues.

Maybe TSportline (or others) will provide an option.

I'm scheduled to take delivery of my MS on march 5th, I have a vin assigned already, any chance we think I could have gotten one of the first with the matrix lights? I'm located in Charlotte so presumably it would take a few days for the car to make it across country from CA...I'm not too optimistic..

I do not think so, it looks most plaid orders for a while will be matched to current cars in inventory or cars being assembled.

Driver side rear fender also appears to be different based because of the updated charge port– so retrofit seems unlikely. The new headlights however might just bolt on?

I don't think there is any change to the fender appearance, what do you base that on?

No chance, sorry. The charging hardware/wiring to the HVB was changed a lot in this line update too.

Just something to look forward to on your next Tesla.
