Oh - yeah, I forgot to mention. The parts to make this are about $20 on Amazon.
Statute varies by state, but not legal in Iowa and probably not legal in any state. Is it legal to make a color copy of the plate into a sticker and stick it at the front? So as not to disrupt the aerodynamic shape of the front.
Yes. I can't link the photo at the moment because it's on the local Tesla group's private FB page and I don't have a FB account, but someone here in Houston put IIRC 6 of exactly those little suction cups on the back of the standard mount (I guess he ordered 2 sets, since they come in sets of 4).Will the suction cups work with the mount that Tesla provided?
I've been using the suction cups and it's been working great.Yes. He said he's driven it to San Antonio and back no problems, so you can assume it's good for at least 90 mph. My recollection is he said he's also gotten slack on removing it, so it's been on for a couple month at a time.

Yeah they could, but why would they even want my license plate? Also, you can't really tell I'm using suction cups unless you look really really close.Couldn't someone just walk up and take your plate off?
I guess it depends on what neighborhood you live in.....

Yes, they could. They could also just walk up with a screwdriver and take off your back plate, or anybody else's plate for that matter. Question is, why?
I'm more concerned with people vandalizing my car than taking my license plate. But you're definitely right, it's likely depending on where you park.I'm glad your question is "why". For many reasons I'm glad you are all asking "why".
Let me just say that in my past ( not that far away ) neighborhoods.....false/fake plates are invaluable.
Yeah, I really don't think people can tell if ti's suction cup vs adhesive strips. If they really want my license plate they'll get it regardless. The thing about attaching using suction cups on the back of the stock mounting bracket, rather than using the adhesive strips that are much harder to remove and stain the paint over time, is it'll be very hard for those passing by to discern that it's suction cups rather than the stock. They'll go to the screws anyway if for some reason they want my plate. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Today my Nextdoor feed** is lit up with the TX Storm Troopers saturating here, several squad cars and even a motorcycle. I assume because we've had 2 fatalities on the local stretch of highway in under 2 months (plus probably putting the fear of the law in people ahead of the drinking season). And of course they're handing out front plate tickets, too. Because "safety" or something?Solution: No front plate.
Solution: No front plate.
+1 just tried mine out for the first time in 100 miles of state trooper saturated rural highways and they worked great! Ripped the plate off when I got back home. FYI - I have PPF on the bumper with Carpro Reload and had no issues attaching or removing.I've been using the suction cups and it's been working great.
