Temporary Insurance for another driver

I'm doing a long European drive in August with a friend, and ideally they'd be able to do some of the driving. Has anyone used temporary insurance for this? My policy seems to only allow named drivers from the same address.

Not for Europe, but I once added a ‘friend’ to my car insurance for a weekend although I may have added them till policy expired as it was similar to temp cost - a while ago so can’t remember what I actually ended up doing.

It wasn’t negligible, but not expensive either, including the admin fee.

I've done this and it can actually be cheaper adding them as a named driver permanently than paying for cover just for a number of days, but ultimately it's down to your insurer how they want to do it.
Also might be worth asking your friend if his insurer would give him temporary cover on your car.

Hi I’ve done this for 2 yrs now with my nephew added as temp driver comprehensive Insurance with LV £30 for 5 days each time.

Turns out I could add as a named driver permanently quite easily as policy is about to renew so avoids any 'change of policy' charges
