I am guesstimating a drive-away price for an optioned 85 at between 125 and 130,000. Also, today is two weeks since David RM posted. was hoping our pricing would be out today, but i guess we are out of luck again. At 8.30 yesterday morning there was a web site update that took quite a long time, which i hoped was IT, but of course, NO!!:mad:

@772 - yep, sorry my mistake - its $US72240 plus taxes. $62400 plus $1170 delivery plus the $7500 rebate, that means $AU82090 at 88c, without import duty, GST or Registration.
Mark, I decided to look up some of the pertinent info re: Australian taxes. Here are my napkin calculations for the price on a base 60 kWh Model S... please let me know if this makes sense to you too.

References: importing a motor vehicle | Working out the LCT on an import | Australian Taxation Office
| A Fair Price | Blog | Tesla Motors

60 kWh Model S = 69,900 + 1,170 USD = 71,070 USD * 1.09724 AUD/USD = 77,978 AUD = Customs Value (CV)
Shipping + Insurance = 4,000 AUD
Customs duty = CV*0.05 = 3,899 AUD
VoTI = 77,978 + 4,000 + 3,899 = 85,877 AUD
GST = VoTI*0.10 = 8,588 AUD
LCV = VoTI + GST = 94,465 AUD
LCT = (94,465 - 75,375)*0.3 = 5,727 AUD
Total price (LCV+LCT): 100,192 AUD

If I run the same math on a fully loaded P85+, I get 203,330 AUD (with a US list price of $133,670 or 146,668 in AUD), or about 2X the cost of a base 60... that's about the same ratio here in the US, too. If you're curious, the LCT was > 29,000 AUD compared to < 6,000 on the base 60.

I notice that the reserve page shows delivery commencing in Australia in Autumn 2014 - was that there previously?

I agree it would be good for Stone or someone to let us know what is going on.....

Why doesn't tesla do what Renault is doing?
Sell the car, lease the battery.
That can make the sale price and running costs more comparable to ICE cars.
It will help drop taxes too.
I suggested something similar a year ago to George Blankenship. In the alternative, since there are options in terms of battery sizes, sell the car without the battery. The battery is the subject of a separate order. Bingo, no LCT and Tesla still has its usual margin. (They of course know in advance which battery is to be chosen...)

Hmmm, that page is new. Interesting - NO evidence of modelS signature!! Same as in UK.

Yes the Autumn has been there for a while, maybe a month, or at least as long as I have been looking. Since it kinda is Autumn that's why I was initially excited as I thought it would be happening now. But I'm thinking we're not going to be seeing cars delivered until the end of the year.

Using 772's formula, which, very regrettably, seems to be correct. I have calculated the price of the 85 non sig car that I want, given that the sig option now seems to have been removed from our page, at 130000 give or take a dollar or two. That, is just about what is acceptable to me, especially since the shares seem to have covered the cost nicely! Nevertheless, it is a sh*t load of dough for a non- luxury car. I have chosen a bunch of options to reach that price but certainly not all of them! Lighting package and "sport" seats- not, sound system extended leather all excluded.
Have written to Greg Hunt to consider abolishing the LCT on these cars - not actually luxury and fit with a direct action plan, and also to consider removing import duty since we don't have a car industry here anymore to all intents and purposes. Suggest you all write to him as well given the budget session is coming up.

Registering this vehicle in NSW will cost an extra $5600.00!!!! in stamp duty.

Mark is spot on...Asset Lites prep markets for Model S introduction. Stone is a great guy - has worked with Tesla for about 2 years now, I have known him since he first started as a product specialist @ Santana Row - he touched down today - expect some movement / activity over the coming week boys and girls ;-)

Greetings HeoSat - no, not back at Tesla - I am the Australian Operation Manager for McLaren Automotive - keeping me very busy - I will have to park my Model S next to my McLaren P1, and share the plug! - Tis great to know all is finally here - has been a long long road - you are all great for hanging in there - you are going to love your Model S!

JMac - any contact with Stone? Starting to worry he has gone walkabout or got caught in a rip tide at Bondi?!

Can we tempt him out of hiding with coffee/beer/donuts.......?

Apologies if my post upset anyone... I was simply trying to put some numbers together to get a more realistic idea of the Model S cost in Australia since pricing has not been officially announced yet. Aside from something like a LCT waiver or increase in the threshold, I hope for your sake the AUD will appreciate by the time MS deliveries begin :smile:

It seems that pricing will be up by mid April for sure. Possibly a bit earlier. Not for another week, definitely. Signature cars will be available in Australia, in all currently available colours, not just the colours that were available in the USA, including the white leather interior. A colour sample book is currently available in Sydney and one will be available in Melbourne in a few weeks time when a Tesla rep lands there to open things up. This book contains leather colours but also, i believe, but am not sure, contains the other colours such as sheet metal and trim. At this stage it will be a small miracle if we see any cars on shore before end June. Realistically, not before July.

It also appears there will not be a group letter to all of us until after the website complete with pricing is up. However, it seems that Sig owners will be contacted individually, I suspect in advance of that. Dborn and I will try and learn more next week.

As an aside, I have also learned that HPWC unit is fully outdoor rated, and quite a few people use them outdoors even in Norway. Our primary house doesn't have a garage.

They have indeed contacted Sig reservation owners individually as I just heard from Stone.

I just had an email from Stone also. It seems signature reservation holders are all being contacted first. His email said there would be a test vehicle in Australia in early May or sooner. Stone is Sydney based and Cary Clark will be relocating to Melbourne in a few weeks.

Regarding colours, Stone's email says 'I have color samples with me if you would like to see them and my colleague in Melbourne will have the same, but the Signature samples are still being prepared by the design firm we work with (they should be here soon).'

I sent him a tweet a few weeks back, I may email, or heck, even call. All his contact details are available on the government website under minister for the environment.

Somehow, I don't like our chances, he doesn't seem very green inclined. But the more people that enquire, the more likely he is to act!

There apparently is an issue with a group email to all of us. Apparently, any such mail would have to go through around two maybe three departments in Palo Alto, and by the time any such correspondence is ready to send out, prices should be up. With the internet and all, this sounds somewhat strange, even to me, but there you go. My info posted above came from Stone when i spoke to him earlier today. David RM has indicated that we two hope to meet with Stone next week for a coffee. One or both of us will report back following that.
