same as above, I was supposed to get delivery by end of march, was aborted day before and told me that we have no date for pickup. I lost all the excitement.. wind is no longer in the sails.. I would rather have a solid car than one with dozens of problems reported. I feel like I should cancel my order and just re-order and get a better car. It weird, because people with VIN #'s 2000 higher than mine (low 1000) are already getting their cars and I'm punished for ordering the P90D so I could have it sooner.. as now I'm getting it later.. I would have gotten less expensive config if I wasn't prompted to order the P90D to get it sooner.

This is exactly my situation. Had I known I would have just opted for a 90D. The P90DL only made sense in conjunction with getting it delivered months earlier.

Well at least I know I am not the only one.. I never purchased such an expensive car in my life and really stretched to get it and show my support to tesla and their mission...but what upsets me the most, is not the delay itself, its the lack of communication, lack of honoring what was promised (if you order a P90D you will get it sooner) etc. I wasnt expecting anything lavish regarding the customer experience.. but I was a tesla fan boy and that has faded away.. I will probably cancel by end of this week... I had enough. Tesla is willing to give a "gift" to people who waited 2 hours in a line for a model 3.. what about people who waited 2 years, and were promised to get a car sooner than later and didn't get it? I'm not asking for any gifts or handouts.. just want tesla to be fair.. how is it that someone ordered a car 2 months ago and is driving it already when I stretched my wallet to get a full loaded one so I can enjoy it sooner and still no word on when I will get it? I can probably buy one right now and get it sooner than my original order... Tesla should put the focus on making good on the early adopters... the delivery specialists seem to know much less than people on this forum and don't seem to care at all. I don't look at tesla the same way anymore.. the cool aid has worn off.. not because of the delays or issues.. its because of the very poor customer service, and the way they treated many of us early adopters.

bottom line: I would be totally ok with the delays, issues and recall if the communication was better and they honored the people who ordered fully loaded car first, get their cars first.. If I knew that ordering a P90D vs a 90D made no difference in delivery time, I would have ordered a 90D and saved money. As of now, the DS have no idea when I will get my car, yet people with VIN 3000 higher than mine are taking delivery already.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the delay in update, as I mentioned in my post, I was going out of the country and just got back! Had the trip of a lifetime in Argentina. While I was out of the country, my husband was coordinating. But now that I'm back hopefully I'll have more to report.

Here's the update:

Had a convo with a senior regional person. A few things I found interesting: He didn't quite understand the concept of placing an early reservation to get a low vin in order to get the car as soon as possible (i.e. Having a place in line). His argument was that I am getting the car before many people even still, thus that was the point of my reservation 3 years ago. He also indicated people who reserve now are getting their cars 7 months from now - which we all know isn't true, and tesla has sent an email saying delivery times are around a month from confirmation (which I said on the phone). He also just generally didn't seem like he had his ear to the ground in terms of realizing what's been going on in terms of configs and all the deliveries of non performance models (I've been glued to the forums and seems like I know more than internal tesla people). He mentioned the black rims indicated a delay online initially, which wasn't true for us, when we configured in November, there was no delay indicated - but this is irrelevant since we have seen black rims everywhere. (And he agreed). His whole thing was "certain configurations" are delivered within one month, but not all, but couldn't tell me why my car isn't one of those - to me, i don't have anything I haven't seen (all black everything, 7seat, 48amp, all packages, no tow, no ludicrous). Also, he confirmed that we couldn't get the 72amp charger upgrade after delivery. Said he would personally get involved to make sure I get the car soon, and hopefully correct. Generally he was very nice about everything and wanted to help, but also wasn't admitting that tesla had screwed up my car.

Bottom line:
- I still don't have my car
- I still don't know when I am going to get my car
- nothing indicates to me that Elon checked on this or got involved
- still a black box, very difficult to get information and detailed information
- the person I am speaking with has been very kind and seems committed to resolving this issue and making things better. There's been an indication some type of olive branch may be extended to smooth things over. I don't want to go into details as I'm not sure it will happen and to what extent. Also, I don't want to violate their trust if they want to keep it confidential.
- i am being told my car will be ready within days - but I don't have a delivery appt and have a very busy schedule over the next 2 weeks so.. To be continued...

UPDATE - as I was writing this, got a call from my DS saying my car is ready for pick up (his ears must have been ringing) - scheduled an appointment for next week. Will keep you posted if all goes well.

So how many weeks in total did you wait until your car was ready?

Sometimes the communication is bad because the news is bad or the lack of news is bad so people don't coomunicate.

That is a bit of human nature.

Did they actually officially say the p90d would get their cars quicker or was that Internet chatter because they heard a ds say it?

1) Tesla never made any suggestions that a 'fully loaded' X would be shipped earlier.
2) There was an advantage at the beginning ordering a P vs non-P; at this point that advantage is gone, but it still exists when you compare a 90 to a 75.
3) It is no fun waiting and not knowing when you will get it is frustrating; the tracking information that the DES's have seems to be limited.

IIRC, @K-MTG was enticed to upgrade to 90D (or P90D) from 70D, promising a quick delivery last month. He is yet to get his car, and now with the free upgrade to 75D, he would've been better off with his original order.
Didn't a number of people get unsolicited phone calls from Tesla reps offering a faster delivery for P90Ds? I think that's how the impression was made that performance X's put you at the head of the line.

Let us know, very keen to see whether "this" delivery happens.

Tesla has never built cars in strict VIN order. They assign the VIN and then build them in batches. Typically the more expensive batches are processed first, but you can get lucky and be added to a currently run less expensive batch.

Yes they did. I recall seeing a tweet from Elon saying that the P90D would be produced first, then the 90D, and lastly the 70D (now 75D), but can't find it. This screen capture isn't the same, but supports the claim: Tesla is ramping up Model X production, non-signature Model X’s are reportedly entering production

Although the delay was all about production and parts defects, it still doesn't take away from the fact that some customers ordered the highest trim line to get their cars sooner.

I think what is really causing the kerfuffle is that there weren't enough orders for the P90D, so orders for the 90D are getting built sooner than projected, and so it "seemed" like the P90D orders were getting passed, but we're still in the early-mid 2016 time-frame. Watching grass grow just sucks.

When we configured it definitely said the P90D WAS expected early 2016, 90D mid 2016 and 70D late 2016. So that language definitely swayed us toward the P90D, otherwise would have gotta 90d.

Also, I don't think Elon looked into my issue as someone mentioned. We had already asked to be put in touch with this senior person because we just got so frustrated and we're trying to climb the chain of command to get to someone that could actually do something. If a different and more senior person reached out, than I may have been convinced Elon got involved, but we were already going down this specific path so I don't think he's intervened - and perhaps there was nothing he could do anyway.

@davidchampion reserved spring 2013, configured 11/2015, told car was in production 3/10/16, tentative delivery 4/22/16.

It would seem that P90D vehicles started manufacture prior to the 90D, but that's not a guarantee that they'll *finish* before 90D. It's not a FIFO (first-in, first-out) queue. Problem vehicles on the line are removed and put back in at a later time when the problem has been manually fixed. I suspect that early VINs are delayed because that manual process is time-consuming and at risk of further delays due to lack of parts.

It might not "guaranty" being finished before the 90D, but one could reasonable "expect" it to.

As an early model 3 reservation holder (reserved before the reveal), I will be anxious when its my turn to configure, because I will have to make a similiar decision - get the performance model for an earlier delivery or go with the long-range non-perf model that better meets my needs and financial goals? As much as the employee orders and prior-owner orders will take precedence, there's no guaranty that mass-production and parts issues will be completely worked out before my turn.

If my order gets caught in QC hell like the OP's, then I'll let Tesla do whatever it takes to get it right, but I won't like the wait either.

Sending the DS the check list is a great idea, but no idea if he will look it over in favor of, or in addition to, his preconfigured internal check list that we/you have no access to. Don't specifically know where the check list is, other can point it out to you in the bowels of our forum, or search the term on top of page...good luck
