This was the easiest part of the process for me. Probably because my trade-in is barely worth anything. I have a 2012 MINI Cooper S with 140k miles at the time I ordered. They offered $4k. I even put an additional 2k miles on it since getting a quote for it. My delivery advisor said they would still honor the original quote given some of the delays on delivery.

For what it's worth, I'm picking up my car tomorrow (hopefully) and my VIN never showed up on United.

If I had a dollar for every time I have heard someone say this...

Yeah, I can't count the number of times I sent them my payoff quote.

It had to have been at least 6 different times . Then before that my IDA kept saying we couldn't move forward unless I took a photo of my title. But no matter how many times I told them I had a loan and my bank held the title they didn't read that or comprehend it. I had to call the sales number who "escalated" the issue. (Remember, one line emails. Short attention span)

Then I sent in the CarMax offer three times, thank God I annoyed them enough times about it and it was still all within the same week and still "live" and valid. But the last time they got it and finally replied back saying I've never heard of the trade team matching CarMax but I'll send it. Less than 24 hours my online account showed the confirmed match. The Ida replied a day later saying they were amazed that happened.

Then when making my down payment the Ida kept saying I needed to mail a seperate cashier's check for my trade in. It was confusing as he**. I talked to them about it, still confused but just ignored what they said as it made zero sense. The main sales line was unsure too. Then when my credit union paid up they called me and I asked again. It finally clicked that they thought my trade equity was me being underwater and I needed to write a cashier's check for the negative equity. I explained I had positive equity and didn't need to mail a check and they finally agreed.

Good luck on the pick up today, if they are open for labor day. Let us know what happens! I'm out in Frisco, so we probably are pretty close.

Anyways, rant off...

My FedEx packet arrived the day before my originally scheduled delivery date. It had the same instructions in bold underline to bring it to delivery appointment, but when I called the Houston North SC they twice recommended I just mail it back (in the included FedEx return envelope) ASAP, so I did that. Wasn’t even asked about the packet when I picked up my car. As far as I can tell the packet has nothing to do with picking up the car and is only for registration paperwork.

My temporary plates are also from Collin county.

My United Road delivery origin also shows as:

LNR Services - Lathrop Hub
500 East Louise Avenue
Lathrop , CA 95330

However I don't think my car was transported via rail to the FTZ then by truck to the DC and here's why:

8/27 - In the afternoon my IDA told me my car is 'planning its trip' and will be leaving soon
8/29 - In the morning the customer service rep told me the car was 'in transit to the service center' and that was confirmed by Cedar Springs rep
8/31 - Car delivered at 12:20 pm

So the car must have left sometimes between 8/27 pm and 8/29 am, given that's roughly 3 to 4 days to the delivery time I doubt it went through the FTZ car jail. Also if my car has went through it other folks with their cars in there for a while should get priority getting their cars out so that doesn't make any sense.

I think LNR Services is a subcontractor to Tesla to handle all its Texas logistics or transportation needs, regardless whether the cars went through the FTZ or not.

agreed that Rail Jail is near Haslet, but I believe technically it is inside the Alliance Foreign-Trade Zone which makes me wonder if cars located there are not technically/legally in Texas. This would be similar to an international traveler arriving at a US airport; legally you are not in the U.S. until you clear immigration. If this is true Tesla could stage cars at Alliance without them being in the "state" until they left the trade zone.

Oh and Google Maps clearly places the BNSF facility in Tarrant County (the greenish line is the county line)

Interesting. You could be right about the trade zone, I don't know. All very intriguing.

Pardon me for not going back and looking. I’m reading/writing this on my cell phone...

But did you also say at one point that your VIN did not show up on United’s website?

Mine didn’t either. But I do know the term “rail” was used more than once in my conversations with delivery advisor.

Well I'm at Austin Pond Springs waiting on my car. I am one of 4 Texas deliveries today. They are normally not open on holidays but are making 2 deliveries here and 2 in Dallas. @SleepingLesson I truly am rooting for you and hope you get your car soon. The delivery specialist told me Austin cannot handle too many deliveries because they have no more room. Anyway,I have butterflies in my stomach and cannot wait to get my car.

We know @miguelóy is one of them in Dallas - who else? It ain't me :-(

Good luck with yours - tell us how amazing it is! We all know but we still love to hear it!

Sorry for quoting this twice, but your "they have no more room" comment just reminded me of an observation. In my obsession to track what's coming into Dallas, It looks like most weeks they aren't even getting a truck every day. As anxious as people seem to be to get their cars, I find it hard to believe that they can't manage to deliver 30 cars a week. If I look at the month of August there was only one week where it looks like they had a daily truck. The rest of the time it looks like its more or less 3 days between trucks. In all fairness, however, this assumes LNR United Road is the only trucking company in use. If there are others, we don't yet know who they are.

I suppose it's possible to be bottlenecked, because they really don't have a big lot in Dallas, but it just seems like again, this is a solvable problem. The delivery center is open 6 days a week. Even if they got one truck a day, they should still be able to turn those out within the same week. At least from the perspective of the numbers. If a truck is 10 cars, that's 50-60 depending on whether or not they deliver on all 6 days or if truck transport is a Monday - Friday deal. I was at Cedar Springs for a little bit one Saturday maybe 6 weeks ago and they were cranking out cars. I wasn't there maybe 45 minutes and I saw several roll out of prep.

One solution would have been to do a full set of deliveries today. They could also start offering Sunday deliveries short term to clear the bottleneck. Or rent a nearby lot, push the cars through prep and into the overflow lot, and start scheduling home deliveries. Growing pains, yes, but seriously, I think they could do a MUCH better job here.

That's right, my VIN never showed up on UR's website until after the car is delivered. Also the pick up and delivery times are exactly the same, down to the minute…

The word 'rail' never came up on any of my many discussions with the IDA, Super and customer service.

We drove by Pond Springs yesterday and saw that the lot was full, as was a grassy field adjacent. FULL full of cars, mostly 3s, and about 6-8 that matches my config.

Today at noon, we saw that a lot of those cars were no longer there. Based on the timing (Sunday to holiday Monday at noon) and @amie's info, I don't think they delivered all of those. I bet they moved those to a second lot somewhere, unless they were en route to San Antonio or somewhere. But bottom line, they were full full full on Sunday and 30 cars or more are gone on Monday morning.

Also saw a dude filling up cars with blue fluid - I guess it was washer fluid not battery coolant.

My delivery is still listed for Sept 8. Right on schedule, my VIN re-appeared on Saturday. Also noticed that it reappeared exactly at my delivery time, but Pacific time. Same VIN.

Excited for @amietk and rooting for @SleepingLesson as we all are.

My car had arrived in Dallas last Monday (8/27) via rail. I assume it is in “rail jail” as I haven’t been able to get any more updated info since then.

Email on 8/28 moving delivery from 8/31 to 9/22. Cannot get a response from my ISA. I tried the 1-800 number and the rep was snarky and pointed out the Tuesday email re change in delivery. From 8/31 to 9/22. Asked if I hadn’t gotten it, and attitude was why am I calling if my delivery date so far out.

This whole unprofessional process with poor communication, lack of concern, and transparency really taints the whole purchase process. Tesla should have anticipated this issue with increase production. The new Texas requirement of purchase prior to arriving in Texad has been in effect since 02/18. The thing is it is only going to potentially get worse as they continue to ramp up production. I am someone who has already purchased three prior Teslas, I have had 30+ referrals also purchase Teslas. Despite how “on board” I am with the mission of the company, I would strongly recommend anyone considering a purchase to hold off purchasing until Tesla gets their act together. It will take a while for this burn to wear off. Tesla really should have someone proactively reaching out and trying to rebuild bridges for those customers impacted by the Texas logistics logjam.

Interesting! I also went there yesterday and saw the full lot. Since they were closed we walked around and looked for our VIN since delivery is scheduled on Wednesday 9/5. I was hoping to have some time to look at panel gaps, paint, etc without the pressure of delivery day. Couldn't find our and still not confident in a Wednesday delivery but the second lot does make sense....

Hey, that's my car, how come you got it? I was supposed to pick it up next Saturday :), Congratulations !!! looks awesome. I have the exact spec'd out car, can't wait anymore. It's going to be a really tough week at work. Hope Model 3 will not roll off my lips while talking project schedules and delivery in my office... LOL.

Choose your favorite adjective. I'm sure it applies. You know it because you have either experienced it or have read others' account of it here and elsewhere. It's just not fair how cool it is being behind the wheel of this car.

One quick follow-up note on a recent topic, they indeed are open on Mondays. But that's a recent change. They used to be Tuesday thru Saturday only. Rumor also has it, if laws will permit, they may be open seven days a week.

But you know how those pesky dealership laws... oh, right. A little bit of payback here. Hey, Texas, you say Tesla can't sell cars in this state because they don't play your dealership franchise game? Fine, then you can stick your flipin' blue laws where the sun doesn't shine. They don't apply here.

Sorry, back to today. We walked in and were greeted by someone (I didn't catch her name) who confirmed we were listed on the agenda. She asked if we already downloaded the app (yes) and said we could sit in the waiting area of the showroom. There were two families ahead of us. That gave me a minute to sit down and scan my registration docs. I forgot to do it earlier.

As I was holding my phone over one doc after the other (pretty cool feature of iOS 12 for those who haven't used it yet) another nice lady comes over and sits down in the four-seat area with my son, daughter, and myself. Seemingly interested in Lucy's (my daughter) coloring, I could tell she had something to unload on us. She was dressed in Tesla garb. "Oh, no," I thought to myself. She's going to try and break it to us gently that something is wrong with the car.

Nope. She's pitching Tesla's solar roof and Powerwalls. And that turned out to be the theme of visit. More so than the car. It took all but five minutes to go over the M3. Paint? fine. Panel gaps? None that I could tell. "Sign here... and here... and do you have the keys to that old worn out MINI you drove in today? Thanks. You're all set."

The next 30 minutes were devoted to the config options and historical trends of my home. One solar roof and two Powerwalls later, I'm driving off with a Tesla car and an appointment for a roof survey next weekend.

Getting a Tesla roof has been something I've wanted to do. But I just put it out of mind because it wasn't currently offered. And I knew they were dedicating all of their resources to Puerto Rico. But apparently that too just changed. Lucky me.

The car. I only have two complaints right now:
  1. Rain sensing windshield wipers. It gets awfully blurry before they kick in. I had to manually turn them on a couple of times driving home.
  2. Floor mats. I could feel them sliding around under my feet. But this isn't a problem because I was planning on getting some WeatherTechs or Tuxmats.

I knew just about everything else. I've done enough reading to know how to work it all. It was just a matter of experiencing it.

Now... all I want for Christmas are these wheels (on the red car) which I hear might be available soon.

And this. I'm a software guy. I just learned about Tesla's programmable API this morning. So I'm going to write an app. Maybe sell it in the app store for a buck or two. Free, of course, to my M3 mates in the Texas Hold Up Rail Jail survivors group.
