Somewhat related to the original post, here is the headache I had, but think I have resolved now.

I got the standard packet from delivery specialist for registration. It had a prefilled title application, and the CoO. I think it would have been easy if I paid cash. But I financed at Chase, and they really messed me up through a series of attempts to provide good service. Here is my list of small headaches:

1) After i closed the loan app, I had the bank write me a check, since no one at TM had told me I had to wire the money. I had planned to show up at the service center with a check. After talking with the delivery speicalist about the appointment it came up, so I took the check back to the bank and they wired the money.
2) They asked me if I wanted to roll in the taxes and finance it with the rest of the loan. I thought, sure why not? Then they said they would take care of titling the car and I shouldnt worry my head about it.
3) Some weeks pass, and I got back to the bank to ask what the status is. They make some calls and again say not to worry the "title department" is all over it.
4) Finally I do some research and decide I should just do it. I take my paperwork into a title office (a for-profit affair with a lady who has been doing this since the Johnson Administration). She tells me with some authority that the paperwork is fine but the lienholder address is wrong (it was not). This distracts me and I go away for a few weeks.
5) I have TM and Chase talk to get the lienholder address right, and TM sends me a new packet with freshly authenticated lienholder address.
6) I go back to the title office and she says everything looks good and presents me a bill for over $6k to cover taxes. Since I had incurred that amount in my loan, I tell her that Chase had paid this on my behalf. She says that is not possible, and calls the county office and confirms this.
7) I go back to Chase and ask them to provide me a check or proof that they paid the tax office. After a few calls they say they will overnight me a check, which I got yesterday. I can't imagine what the title office in Chase thought they were doing, but I am 90% sure someone just got stuck and didn't bother to call me.
8) Tomorrow I will attempt to finish up. I will probably have to pay a $600 penalty for being so late

We in nearby states are at least growing in sympathy for those being abused in Texas. But let's be clear. Texas itself has a lot of good things going for it (lived there twice). This debacle is about the TX ICE Dealer Dynasties that are behind the harassment, and who are feeding the Austin parasitic lobbyists.
Maybe with superchargers in place in the near future, there can be a steady stream of folks taking delivery of these awesome vehicles in Denver or even the new service center going into OKC. (Good going Tesla!) Let's fly them in and put 'em up for the night. TX cannot stop the cars from coming in, nor can they impose a direct "tax". It will just be whining and ankle-biting harassment. Hopefully, the independence of people in Texas includes bucking these annoyances....and maybe things will change.

There is no need to do that. You pick the car up at one of the service centres in Texas. The hassle is that Tesla employees can't talk price, financing, or do test drives (though Tesla gets around that by scheduling drives on certain days). The only thing the consumer needs to do is to take the paperwork to the tax office and pay the sales tax when they pick up their plates.

The dealer association problem is annoying for Tesla, but it's mostly a non-issue for someone purchasing a car.
