It's one thing that really bugs me about my M3P, why does it not come with privacy glass like the Model Y does?
Makes no sense to me and I've never found an explanation why

Cost saving maybe? It's one thing that really bugs me about my M3P, why does it not come with privacy glass like the Model Y does?

Not exactly - but in a more circuitous way you can say that! The US state laws regarding privacy glass and tinting ratios are pretty varied from 70% to 5%. Any factory that does that has to do more personalised based on regions and mass production and selling (the way Tesla wanted to do) wasn’t possible at the time when they really wanted to take Model 3 to the mass. I guess with Model 3s popularity and Tesla’s success it is now possible to do some personalisation based on State laws.Cost saving maybe?
assume the Y has it as it didn't originally have a parcel shelf? Does look good on the Y with black wheels in white
How does that make sense when the Model Y has privacy glass though? Not exactly - but in a more circuitous way you can say that! Yes, it is about cost cutting but also mass producing at that point needed some practical solutions. Anyhow accessories market and tinting business was always flourishing in US, so it wasn’t seen as an issue there.
We'll agree to disagree on this oneTends to make cars look rubbish?
I got my rear done (oh er) and the guy I used persuaded me not to go too dark due to the heating filaments and known risk of it cracking. I took his advice and it’s survived almost 3 years now.The problem with getting it done later is the rear window otherwise I'd have done it ages ago
Yes, plenty. Also you've stumbled into the UK and Ireland forum.Because the Model 3 is a sedan and the Model Y is an SUV and there are different rules on factory tinting the 2nd row of SUV's vice sedans. Have you ever seen a sedan with factory privacy glass on the second row?
Doh! Sorry, but I suspect since it is related to the regulations in the US and the cars were designed in the US it is a carry-over from that.Yes, plenty. Also you've stumbled into the UK and Ireland forum.
We get Chinese built cars here these days….Doh! Sorry, but I suspect since it is related to the regulations in the US and the cars were designed in the US it is a carry-over from that.
