Windshield crack

On our very first family roadtrip in our MX75D, a rock was kicked up on the highway and a couple of days later, we saw a crack toward the bottom on the passenger side. I've seen some old threads about windshield replacement but nothing recent: does this have to be done by Tesla, or can a vendor like Safelite order the part? Our insurance company will cover the repair 100% if done by Safelite, but I'm not sure whether they will if it has to be done by Tesla. It's amazing how this happens in the first month of having this car, but in 9 years of having our Honda Odyssey it didn't happen once. Would love to hear of any experiences. Thanks!

Had JN Phillips put new windshield in for me. went to service station where the windshield was. There are some specialists who put them in so scheduling it may be more difficult than a normal windshield. It shouldn't cost a penny either, Mass laws apparently.

It's a big job, and you want an installer with a lot of Tesla experience. I had my windshield done due to a stress fracture crack. That was done under warranty. Getting the strip and cams back on correct is important, and may even require replacing a part. Also, a generous amount of glass adhesive must be used to ensure the windshield can move when the car flexes. Not enough adhesive at the factory is what lead to my windshield crack.
