Make your robotaxi predictions for the 8/8 reveal

So Elon says that Tesla will reveal a dedicated robotaxi vehicle on 8/8. What do you think we will see? Will it look like this concept art or something else?

GKcNKVvaEAAUmMG

I will say that while this concept drawing looks super cool, I am a bit skeptical if it is practical as a robotaxi. It looks to only have 2 seats which would be fine for 1-2 people who need a ride but would not work for more than 2 people. I feel like that would limit the robotaxis value for a lot of people. Also, it would likely need a steering wheel and pedals for regulatory reasons even if Tesla did achieve eyes-off capability.

So I think this is concept art for a hypothetical 2 seater, cheap Tesla, not a robotaxi.

Could the robotaxi look more like this concept art but smaller? It could look a bit more like say the Zoox vehicle or the Cruise Origin, more futuristic box like shape IMO and seat 5-6 people.

Or maybe the robotaxi will look more like the "model 2" concept:

Other questions:
- Will the robotaxis be available to own by individuals as a personal car or will it strictly be owned by Tesla and only used in a ride-hailing network?
- What will cost be?
- Will it have upgraded hardware? Radar? Lidar? additional compute?
- Will Elon reveal any details on how the ride-hailing network will work?

Thoughts? Let the fun speculation begin!

M3H - Which software version?

I just moved house and haven't had a software update for my M3H LR since 02 March when 2024.2.8 came out.
Can anyone with a M3H let me know what software version they're on?

I keep getting alerts on my app saying "connect to wifi to download" software, but then when I do connect to wifi, nothing....
I feel like i'm away behind on updates so there should definitely be one. How do I go about downloading it??

Tessories charge port remote

I have got one of this to open the charge port in case if I can’t use my Apple Watch. However, I am not sure whether there is any reliable plastic sticking glue that I can use to stick it on top of the charger. I have got a regular Podpoint charger🔌.

[UK] Report that Tesla not going to produce low cost “Model 2”

Report by Reuters here. Also states that they will focus on robotaxis instead.

Can see a few potential impacts being: the share price pummelled, Musk out and Tesla being ripe for sale in the coming future. Thoughts?

Could also be nonsense of course.

Edited to add: big caveat being that Reuters seems to have an agenda against Musk and Tesla if you look at their history. Which is a bit of a surprise given their normally factual stance they usually take on most topics.

New AutoPark with USS

I have a '21 refresh S with USS. Does anyone know if there are ANY model cars with USS that have received the new AutoPark feature? Not just Models S/X.
I have been waiting for 3 years to have autopark work on my car correctly. It has shown up about 3 times in all of those years. (Yes I know how to use it and to drive slowly etc.)
To now be skipped over for the new AutoPark really sucks. They have had the vision high-definition view out for what.... 6 months?
To be skipped over for the tilt-screen and gaming capabilities (both advertised when I bought), and now this is just awful.
This doesn't breed brand loyalty.

FUSC doesn't include destination charging?

I have FUSC and I parked at a Tesla charger with both Supercharger and Destination chargers. I used the destination charger because I was having lunch and didn't want to need to leave in the middle of lunch to unplug my car. When I got back, I saw that I was charged for the destination charging session ($0.31/kWh).

Does FUSC not include destination charging? I'm fine if it doesn't and I'll just chalk this up to a lesson learned, but I wanted to verify before I decide to contact Tesla to ask them.

I am debating selling/trading a Ford F150 for a Model Y. Am I missing anything?

I currently own a Model S Plaid ('22) and a 2018 Ford F150. I am debating selling/trading the F150 for a Model Y -OR- selling/trading both cars and going back to 1 car as a Model X Plaid.

I've become so accustomed to the Model S and just having a Tesla in general that I do not want a gasoline vehicle anymore. My kids and I camp occassionally and I am somewhat indifferent to sedan vs. SUV style car.

I understand that these are first world problems but appreciate any experiences or input that I may be missing.

As a side note, I also recognize the difference in the S vs. 3 and the X vs. Y and that the Y may very well follow the update pattern into next year.....

MYP tire rotation

I’ve been reading up on tire rotation procedures for the Performance MY and I’m still a bit confused. I know you can’t swap front and rear because of the different tire size. But for left and right rotation, is it necessary to unmount the tires and flip them around to maintain the correct direction on them?

Is everyone with an MYP doing the rotation or are some people just not bothering at all?

Can't Auto Park with FSD - version 2024.3.10

I must be doing something wrong.
I have FDS with version 2024.3.10 that supposedly includes Auto Park but when I slowly drive by open parking spots, nothing happens i.e. The "P" does not appear on my display.
I do almost all my driving locally and don't use Self Drive although Tesla may have decided that I should use Self Drive and if it is on, I don't not know how to turn it off?
Any help that you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Bob

How to gracefully disengage FSD

Apologies if this is a simple question and has been answered before. Searching didn't turn up a simple answer. I recently subscribed to FSD for a month and did a 2400 mile road trip with. I found it very valuable for many hours of driving per day, but untrustworthy in town or around traffic. During that time, I could not find a way to turn off FSD without generating an a warning indicating that I had done something wrong. If i took control of the car manually, I'd get the (paraphrased) "What Happened? Please report this to Tesla" error message. If I pushed up on the gear selector, same alert. I tried ending the trip in the nav, but that didn't turn off FSD. My son found this hilarious, I found it slightly annoying. So, what is the right way to end a FSD session without the car producing this warning/nag?

TIA

Tesla Finance Account Details

Hi,

Hopefully buying a second had Y tomorrow privately, which has outstanding Tesla Finance on it.

I want to pay Tesla direct, but just wanted to see if someone could confirm the account number I have been given for Tesla Financial Services.

Struggling to get any info from Tesla!

The account detail I have been given by the seller ends in 559895.

This is very close, but different, to the account number I used buying my Model 3.

Can anyone confirm?

Many thanks

Supercharger - Peabody, MA

A developer just presented and received planning board approval for a 10 stall Tesla supercharger at a new Starbucks being built at 1 Newbury St, Peabody, MA 01960. This was originally going to be a 12 stall build, however the count was reduced to 10 due to limited space. Pardon the quality of the images - screen captures from a live zoom presentation. Site plan info, if/when available, will be uploaded.

The planning board was under the firm assumption these would be exclusively usable by Tesla vehicles. There was no Tesla representative present to dispute this. The minor site modification was approved unanimously. Next step presumably building permits.

Recently my 2018 Model S completely shut down

Hi,
I am just sharing my experience so it might be helpful for someone in the future.
My 2018 Model S with 85k miles on it completely shutdown. It still had charge left. Also the air conditioning stopped working few days before the car shutdown.
Even the key fob wasn't working to open the front, trunk or doors etc.

My insurance company could only connect me to a couple of dumb towing companies who kept asking me if the car is in neutral which is wasn't
I called Tesla and their quote to tow 18 miles which is the distance of their service center was $700ish so i ended up getting an independent towing company for $250

The way to put the car in the towing mode was following:
First locate the 2x cables on the front of the front 2 tires on either side. These cables are hidden under the plastic black panel.
Pulling these cables opens the front trunk. Then jump starting the 12V battery in the front trunk to open the doors and start the computer and access the screen so we can put the car in tow mode.

Total cost for repair estimate is $3538.66

Hope this helps someone.

New Level 2 Charger 32A charger pulling 35A

I’m new to Teslas and EVs, having picked up a 2024 Model 3 RWD last month. I’m staying at a friend’s house and the car has charged fine on his JuiceBox wall charger, using the J1772 adapter.

I’ll need a mobile charger for an upcoming road trip, and may also use it as my level 2 charger when I got home. So I purchased an EVGOER 32A level1 and level2 adapter from Amazon. It claimed UL certification (but I haven’t fully verified that) and had a couple of nice features: 30-foot cable, and the ability to limit the amperage manually. (Yes, it was also cheap, at $140, but it had good reviews and promised UL certification.)

I just charged for the first time, on automatic, and the unit itself reported that while it was SET at 32A, the actual output was 35A. I charged for under an hour and got two messages from the Tesla app that “charging had stopped,” but on both occasions charging did not actually stop, and the service menu inside the car reported no errors.

But it DOES NOT seem right to me that this 32A unit is showing an actual output of 35A (they make a 40A unit, but I didn’t buy that one), and I have to guess that this is related to the charging stopped messages. (I can add that I connected this cable to the same high quality 14-50 NEMA plug that the juicebox was using; this is a fairly new house and this electrical line was run specifically for the juicebox. I think it’s on a 50amp breaker, but it’s definitely 40am or higher)

I assume the consensus here will be: return this cable to the Amazon seller and buy the tesla mobile connector.
But I wanted to check first to see if there is something else I should do or that I am missing?

What is the next update from 2024.8.7?

I've been doing some light reading and there are different branches for Tesla updates?

There's a 2024 branch and a 2023 branch? It seems the 2023 branch has gotten FSD 12 while the 2024 branch is still stuck on FSD 11?

If you had FSD or a FSD trial active you most likely were on the old 2023 version and then got the new 2023 update pushing you to FSD 12?
If you did not have FSD then you got pushed to the 2024 branch?

I updated to 2024.8.7 before realizing this. I probably should have stayed on 2023 and waited for the update to FSD 12 so I could get the trial?

It is 4 days into April and I'm wondering what is next for 2024.8.7. Will there be another updating bringing me to FSD 12 so I can use the trial before April ends? Or am I just out of luck?

Unfortunately, Tesla isn't too clear about this whole FSD 12 free month trial

First impression of FSD and how TSLA should promote it

Got a '21 MYLR with USS. FSD 12 is my first foray into FSD. I like to drive myself and rarely even use AP. I was more impressed with FSD than expected but it's only the salt on the peanut. I expected it to make me nervous, which it didn't. That's a plus. But it's still just a preview of what L3-L5 autonomy will offer. Autonomous driving is an all-in, or nothing, proposition, IMO. You either drive a car or the car drives itself! I see no middle ground. People are creatures of habit and I was trained to drive myself. I'm not going to alter ingrained habits over quarter or half measures.

Based on the headwinds Tesla now faces from competition, EV burnout, and model transition, etc, here's what I'd do if I were QELON. After the free trial, offer a one time deal for a very limited period (a month) where Tesla owners can lock in a transferrable $49 a month FSD subscription, that last as long as you own any Tesla. This is the Apple's services/ecosystem model. My hunch is lots of owners (including me perhaps) would purchase FSD, the new subs will be accretive to TSLA's bottom line in the short term, and the FSD recipients will have an incentive to be loyal to Tesla when buying new vehicles in the future. I think the FOMO of this kind of promo could boost TSLA stock, short term, and long term sales.

Tesla wanted me to replace my Battery, turns out it was the dc-dc- convertor

Hi all,

Last February, my Tesla Model S suddenly showed 0% battery after having 58% just a few hours earlier. I called Tesla service, and they identified an issue with the Battery Management System.

Rather than taking the car to Tesla directly, I had it towed to my own garage by the ANWB. They discovered that the 12V battery was faulty due to a broken DC-DC converter. However, they couldn't reset the car with their current equipment, and Tesla refused to do it remotely.

Because of this, I ultimately had to have the car towed to Tesla by a recovery vehicle.

Before the car even arrived at Tesla's location, I received a call stating that the battery pack was also faulty and needed replacement, costing €16,500, as my car was out of the 8-year warranty period.

The car then sat at Tesla for about two weeks while we waited for the replacement pack to arrive.

During this time, I spoke with my own garage, which informed me that they had invested in Tesla-specific equipment, allowing them to diagnose the battery pack and replace only specific modules if necessary.

So, I had Tesla pick up the car again just in time, as they were about to start work.

After dismantling and testing the pack, it turned out that all the modules were functioning properly, and nothing needed replacing. Now, a week later, the DC-DC converter (costing €1200) has been replaced, and the car is back on the road.
