    Bump repair - Edinburgh?

Thanks Chaps - booked with ProTouch for the end of May (they are busy which must be a good sign!)

    Bump repair - Edinburgh?

Bother - our M3 came back from a trip to the supermarket. Found a nasty scrape and a bit on a crease in the passenger side rear wheel arch. Anyone got any experience of repairs in the Edinburgh areas? Blue by the way. Thanks

Nearly hit a bus - but the Tesla did nothing

Hmmmm...I certainly was not going fast. Less than 3mph - maybe but very hard to tell. I forgot to download the camera data - maybe it is still there.

Nearly hit a bus - but the Tesla did nothing

So I was turning right at the lights. I was looking for a parking space in the road I was turning into - so I admit it I probably was not paying enough attention. A bus (large green double decker!) came from the straight ahead direction and I turned in front of it. Very close, no collision! my...

    Less updates for older cars?

Thanks for all the replies - I guess that Tesla is listening because as soon as I put the first post in this thread I got an update to 2023.38.6 :) I get that there are things my 'ancient' Tesla can't do compared to newer hardware. But it could still; Give vastly improved wiper control Allow...

    Less updates for older cars?

Is it just me - or has the freqency of software updates reduced. My car is now close to 4 years old. Can't remember having the software updated for some considerable time. So are older cars being abandoned by Tesla?

    [UK specific] Software Update 2023.26

Bejebus....Tesla! Why? A major software update I think NOT. Really I am getting fed up with this. How about Wipers that you can adjust, Cruise Control that actually cruises, A radio display that actually shows what is on the radio. Not to mention things that ALL other cars (even cheap ones) have...

I would recommend LV. Seems to be very good rates and I found that they are quick to answer the phone.

Musk v Zuckerberg - Punch Up?

I hear there is going to be a punch up between Mr Tesla and Mr Facebook. I wonder if Mr. Facebook could punch Mr. Tesla on the nose to the point that he gives us windscreen wipers that work, or even cruise control without manic windscreen cleaning (to no effect).

Whats your favourite and least favourite supercharger and why?

This one! Can't quite remember but somewhere to the north of Bonn in Germany. 40 plus Tesla Chargers, looked like at least 20 other chargers. Cover was completely full of solar panels. Great organic cafe. If all chargers could be like this! Blue car is mine. Oh - and least favourite! Aviemore...

    Tyre Wear

Seems to be a lot better. done about 3,000 miles since adjustment and tyres appear to be wearing fairly evenly.

    Creaking noise

On my car it turned out that it was the lower ball joints creaking not the usual upper ball joint fault. As the car was out of warranty Tesla charged around £500 to replace the lower joints. Seems to have solved the problem and to be honest I am not unhappy - at nearly 60,000 miles this is the...

Model Y onboard charger Voltage Tolerance?

In the UK, the declared voltage and tolerance for an electricity supply is 230 volts -6%, +10%. This gives an allowed voltage range of 216.2 volts to 253.0 volts. if you are getting consistent voltage outside these limits you need to contact the network operator in your area.

    Weird Supercharger Layout

Oh no - stupid me - park parallel to the charger not perpendicular as many sites are. Then you can get 4 cars around each group of 4 chargers. But I wonder if they have extra long cables? if the site is busy you might end up with your charge port on the wrong side or wrong end of the car.

    Weird Supercharger Layout

Just came across this picture on Twitter of the new Supercharger at Noyelles Godault in France - now how are you supposed to use that? Surely the chargers in the middle will be blocked by cars using the outside rows?

    Creaking noise

Interesting - well I will ask about having it done under warranty. My car is now 54,000 miles and first MOT at the end of March. Unfortunately got to do a trip to the Alps from Scotland first! Hope it holds out :)

    Creaking noise

I had the temporary fix done on my M3LR around 18 months ago. Creaking again and this time Tesla quoted £59.40 to fix it! I suspect they just add grease to the ball joints. However I am just off to Austria on Wednesday so have opened the ball joints myself which is very easy. DO NOT follow any...

    M3LR Squeaky Steering

Booked with a company to check this afternoon. I am pretty pished that I have now scrubbed two sets of tyres early. And presumably as the tyres are wearing the car efficiency and hence range is down?

    M3LR Squeaky Steering

Well I have the drivers side of the car suspension in bits. Quite easy to get the top ball joint out. Reasonably easy to remove the boot retaining clip from the top of the ball joint and then pull down the rubber boot. In fact my car appeared to have plenty of white coloured grease inside the...

New Tesla Owner & a Flat Tyre!!

I carry a DynaPlug Dynaplug- Tire Repairing Tool kit and a compressor. Plus I bought an old Porsche aluminium light weight jack. If you get a nail in the tyre (which I did once) then this can save you. However ripping the sidewall out is still a problem!

    M3LR Squeaky Steering

OK - can you point me at those threads. I have in the past soaked the joints with silicone lubricating spray. If I can grease them then this might be enough to get through our trip to the Alps at least.

    M3LR Squeaky Steering

Thanks....and bother. Was hoping it is something simple. Off to the Alps in the car in 10 days time. Wonder if Tesla can fix it by then! And by the way; if they change the arms does this put the tracking out? I had to take the car to a specialist alignment service because the first set of tyres...

    M3LR Squeaky Steering

My car 2020 has developed a loud squeak when the steering is moved. Different to the suspension creak that Tesla fixed some time ago. Does not occur on uneven surfaces so I don't think it is suspension but happens when the steering is moved at low velocity (i.e. substantial steering movements)...

M3LR coming up to three years old and 52,000 miles needs MOT. Any recommendations for MOT provider In Edinburgh? Anything I should do to the car before MOT? New wipers already fitted and good winter tyres fitted.

    [UK] 2022.44

This has rendered autopilot completely useless for me. I admittedly have a phobia of dry windscreen wipers and if they go off when the screen is dry I have to shut then down immediately. So simply cannot use TACC any more. Frankly this, alone, would stop be buying another Tesla!

    Superchargers being increased in Scotland

But there are finally a row of chargers on both sides of the Harthill Services on the M8. Nothing to stop a Tesla using them. Don't know what they charge yet.

    Nail in tyre in Swansea

Just had a tyre repaired by Kwik-Fit. No charge so here is a ringing endorsement :p By the way I saw that they have a 20% off two Cross Climate 2 tyres when ordered before the end September. I have a set of CC2's which are very good on my M3.

    Tap the card

Phone is a Samsung S8 (I know......I need a new phone!). Yes the car does unlock when I walk up to it most of the time but I have walk away lock disabled so lock with the card (in my phone case) by tapping the pillar. I don't have NFC enabled. Seems like the Tesla app is allowed to run in the...

    Tap the card

Recently (last two months or so) my car keeps insisting that I 'Tap the Card' to drive. My phone is connected by Bluetooth and it listed in the registered keys list. Power reduced error - how common is it and will it come back?

In my case it turned out that a gasket in the 5 way coolant bottle had come loose and blocked the flow. Once fixed the car was perfect.

    Driving to Val D'Isere

Charging on the way to and from Austria was simply great. Mostly we we went to Tesla SuperChargers when doing any distance. At one service station I used a public 350kW charger - but really just to see if it worked (it did). In Zell am See where we stayed for one week there was something of a...

    Driving to Val D'Isere

Well got back safely after 25 days away. Have to say the M3LR was just great. 2,236 miles on the German Autobahn and through Austria. Buzz Rack (from www.roofbox.co.uk) worked perfectly. 298Wh/Mile average for the trip compared to my lifetime value of 268Wh/Mile was not bad at all. Michelin CC2...

3 Phase Fast Charging on EV Tariffs

Latest software update on the Tesla seems to sorted some issues with the Zappi. Last charge before I left for Austria I forgot to switch off the Zappi timer - this time it did not interfere with the charge timer in the Tesla. Hoping this is a permanent improvement.

    European Road trip (Feb 2022)

Just drove from Edinburgh to Innsbruck (Austria). Simply no problem at all. SuperChargers everywhere. One even had 53 free stalls. Used one non-Tesla charger although I did not need to but stopped for coffee and it was at the service station (6 x 300kW chargers). According to the Tesla manual...

    Driving to Val D'Isere

We are on the way to the Alps tomorrow (Wed23rd Feb). Newcastle-Amsterdam ferry, stopover in Heidelberg, arrive Innsbruck Friday. 8 Days skiing there, then 7 days in Zell am See then a further week where the snow looks good. M3 all prepared with winter tyres, chains, ski rack on the tow...

    Tyre Wear

So just fitted a set of CC2 tyres to the M3 in preparation for departure to Austria on Wednesday. Asked the tyre place to check the alignment even though Tesla checked and adjusted in January when I found excessive tyre wear. Guess what - they are miles out! So much so that the tyre shop did not...

Tow bar no longer available for new Model 3 orders?

I use the tow bar all the time. Just bought a Ski carrier to fit on it. Would not have bought an M£ if this was not an option as (in 2020) the M3 was the only EV, other than the Jaguar, that could have a tow bar.

    Phantom braking to be investigated

I don't have Phantom Braking because I gave up using TACC in anything other than either empty roads or queues. But I am pleased that they are investigating this. Note however the report says M3 and MY from 2021 - is there a difference to earlier cars? My M3 is 2020 delivery and probably a 2019...

Loan Vehicle - how far can I take it?

Final result - the car is back. Seems that a gasket in some coolant bottle (that has a 4 way valve?) came loose and blocked one of the valve ports. Took the SC some time to find and fix that. So not terribly serious and fixed under warranty but seems to be a build quality issue once again...

Loan Vehicle - how far can I take it?

Getting worried - no news from Tesla today.........I went to Brussels in our 24kWh Nissan Leaf in January 2020. That was what decided the Tesla purchase. Don't fancy the drive to Austria with 70 mile range between charges.

Loan Vehicle - how far can I take it?

Tongue in cheek of course - just a bit gutted. We bought the car in March 2020 and were planning an immediate ski trip. Then lockdown stopped us. Now after 33,000 miles the Tesla decides to have a serious problem just before we finally get to go!

Loan Vehicle - how far can I take it?

You may have read in another thread that my M3LR suddenly decided to limit the speed to 55mph. It did this for a whole evening even though there was plenty of electrons left in the battery. After a SuperCharge it seemed to recover and the fault has not re-occurred. However it was booked in for...
