You all have about talked me out of a Tesla altogether...

I read an article the other day about the fatal flaw in the often quoted “study” that shows 50% of marriages ending in divorce. The study counted marriages and divorces that occurred in a geographic area for a certain period of time and determined that the number of divorces equaled the half of...

    FSD Disengaging

I get similar behavior in our Model Y but no dings whatsoever. Just all of a sudden, the car is out of FSD mode and is just in TACC/autosteer mode and a few minutes later, it's back in FSD mode. It switches constantly between FSD and TACC/autosteer, with no audible indication whatsoever—just the...

    Help understanding my meter

Fortunately, there's no demand charge. It's an electrical co-op, so everyone pays exactly the same rate, 24/7/365. No demand charge. No on/off peak. No free night's/weekends. Nothing. Just the same flat rate for everyone (about $0.10/kWh). It's kinda nice that way.

    Help understanding my meter

I guess I'll give them a call. Right now it's cycling between only two numbers: the 5.800 kW value and the kWh consumed value. The latter is behaving as I would expect. The former is definitely not instantaneous. Maybe they can push a change to the meter to give me an instantaneous display. Or a...

    Help understanding my meter

We just bought a new property and I've been attempting to gauge the electric usage in preparation for sizing a solar setup. Comparing the kWh readouts for a given time interval is straightforward for my determining day usage versus night usage, etc. What's puzzling me is the instantaneous draw...

Replaced IC screen but it's still dark. Any ideas?

Follow-up from the OP here. It was the MCU after all; not the IC. Tesla replaced the MCU (and we went ahead and had them upgrade the MCU to an MCU2) and all is fine. It didn't occur to me that an MCU that seemed to be working fine would cause the IC to not display.

Replaced IC screen but it's still dark. Any ideas?

(Sorry for the cross-posting but I originally buried this on page 9 of a thread about the IC replacement and that might be too obscure for a timely response.) We had an IC that went completely dark a short while ago but because the car was still drivable we figured that swapping out the display...

    Replacing instrument cluster

My replacement this weekend didn't go well. The screen from ReelDeal is great. Chad is great. The problem seems to be with my S. We swapped screens, keeping our same IC board, as many of you are doing but it changed nothing. In short, I'm seeing the exact same behavior before and after the...

I’m an idiot. Please help. Closed frunk with disconnected battery.

Holy cow! It worked! I had just assumed that the nosecone jumper method would not work if the 12v battery was completely disconnected. I’m out of the doghouse. Thanks, gang!

I’m an idiot. Please help. Closed frunk with disconnected battery.

I didn’t think that would be possible if both the 12v and the HV battery are completely disconnected, as is my situation. (I hope I’m wrong. It’s nearly 1:00 a.m. here , so a little late in the day to try but I’m definitely going to try that in the morning.)

I’m an idiot. Please help. Closed frunk with disconnected battery.

The instrument cluster on my S died and I’m in the middle of replacing it with a ReelDeal replacement screen. I had to leave for a while in the middle of the project and, in a moment of sheer idiocy, I completely closed the frunk with the 12v battery and the HV battery disconnected. Is it...

Blog Tesla Looking for Good Drivers to Test Full Self-Driving System

I recognize that the nags themselves are not the issue. Implicit in my comment about there being more nags than before is a concern that I’ll overlook a nag and be locked out.

Blog Tesla Looking for Good Drivers to Test Full Self-Driving System

I have tons of AP experience and used to never get the nag. Ever. In recent months, though, I’m being nagged way more than ever before and seemingly without justification. Plus, NoA seems way less effective and more chaotic with its lane changing. I just activated the “it’s okay to spy on me...

Checking in...anyone still waiting for their eMMC refund check from Tesla?

I never got any kind of response at all. I submitted my request shortly after the March 5th email. It was a third party repair but I filled out the form and included documentation. No response at all. Am I hosed? I tried to fill out the form again but the form won't let you fill it out twice...

    Mach-E review from Model 3 SR+ owner...

Insult? Nowhere did I express insult. That‘s your mischaracterization. I’m simply surprised and curious at his very inconsistent behavior of yearning for a Tesla for eight years, repeatedly declaring his intention to buy one, and suddenly doing a 180 and buying an EV that seems likely to offer...

    Mach-E review from Model 3 SR+ owner...

I have a family member who has admired my Tesla every time I traveled to his home town. For years now, it's been "Tesla is great! I want a Tesla one day." I just heard through the family grapevine that he has put in a reservation, but not for a Tesla. For a MachE. WTF? I need to corner this guy...

Cold weather stopping all charging... Not sure how to deal with this.

We bought an inventory P85 and later discovered that the car had been wrecked and repaired while it was a service loaner. Apparently, that information had been lost by the time the car was listed for inventory sale so the previous wreck wasn't disclosed to us when we bought it. We learned about...

Cold weather stopping all charging... Not sure how to deal with this.

Yes, this is a March 2015 build of a P85. Does it have the manual release? Time passes... No, mine is different. I have the same cover on the backside of the chargeport assembly but the switch shown in the video is not present. (My P85 is a unicorn. It was a Tesla rebuild, produced a few...

Cold weather stopping all charging... Not sure how to deal with this.

Resurrecting this thread to see if there are suggestions for our situation: Our S is in the driveway and is displaying a red charging ring. We can't get the car to release the charging cable. We've been subjected to rolling blackouts since Monday; however, our power is on now and has been since...

Why are people waiting at Costco gas stations instead of buying Teslas?

The office complex where i worked (pre-COVID) had a gasoline delivery service. Their prices were within a few cents per gallon of the neighboring gas stations but with the benefit that people could order a fill-up via the mobile app, designate where their car was parked, and the truck would show...

    Nitrogen Question?

This issue has been hashed and rehashed here on the forum seemingly forever, so a while back I researched and found a white paper and a letter on the subject of effusion and permeation as it relates to O2 vs N2 in tires. The short answer is that if the two are completely dry, there's no...

    Hello from (nearby) Zürich

Welcome! I learned a great deal on this forum prior to purchasing my first Tesla. Be aware; however, that car forums tend to attract more complaints than praise because those without problems are too busy enjoying their Teslas to write about their happy experiences. So, don’t be misled by the...

Best setup for two tesla charging

I put in two wall chargers, sharing a 100 amp circuit (our S can charge at 80 amps). We like the robustness of the wall units, the longer cables, the aesthetics, and leaving our mobile chargers in the car all the time. The 14-50 on the bottom is what we used in the beginning, before I installed...

    Heated Steering Wheel

I would pay to retrofit my 3's steering wheel with a heated one. I think $500 would be fair but if they offer it the price will probably be double that.

NHTSA asks Tesla to recall 158,000 [now 135,000] vehicles for eMMC failure. Voluntary Recall issued

Tesla's notice mentions reimbursement but does that mean reimbursement only for money paid to Tesla for this repair? What happens for people who pulled the MCU themselves and paid a third party to clone their eMMC chip to a larger one? I wouldn't mind getting my $$$ back for that.

    Guns, Gun Control Quarantine

My only concern about this particular mounting is that I prefer to have the trigger guard enclosed by whatever holster or mount that I use. That way, nothing will snag on the trigger, like an article of clothing or a shopping bag being maneuvered around. That’s just my preference.

    Procedure for windshield replacement?

I definitely need to do that first. I was just looking for an idea of the process before I kick things off. I’ll have to get the windshield re-tinted again, too.

    Procedure for windshield replacement?

I need to have my 3’s windshield replaced due to a rock impact. Do I initiate that with a Tesla service appointment and Tesla arranges for a glass company to come to the service center or do I arrange for the glass company and then deal with Tesla separately so that Tesla can reattach the...

How much $ to retire and how to fund your lifestyle in retirement

Ha! How much $ to retire and how to fund your lifestyle in retirement

Some of these may have been discussed elsewhere in the thread, so at the risk of being redundant here are some of my current favorite retirement calculators. Tesla supercharger throttling lawsuit how to join

It’s especially frustrating for us because right before they throttled us we received a replacement pack that restored our range to factory new. So even if Tesla is correct that they need to throttle older batteries to protect them, there’s no need to throttle ours. Our S is now unsuitable for...

NHTSA asks Tesla to recall 158,000 [now 135,000] vehicles for eMMC failure. Voluntary Recall issued

I think, too, that this might have been poor coordination between hardware people and software people, resulting in more logging happening than the hardware people anticipated.

My neighbor killed her cat just by starting her car. The cat had climbed into the engine compartment (warmth?) and was killed when the car was started. ICE cars are so dangerous that can kill cats without even being driven.

This is especially noteworthy when you compare the R&D budgets for TSLA and GM. It's staggering to think what Tesla could have done with the past decade's worth of GM's R&D budget.

Going to move my MS from TX to NY

I would ensure that the carrier you choose is the actual carrier and not just a company that subs out the transport. It’s not always easy to tell. Typically, those who are the actual carriers state this explicitly.

I think it's time to start talking about a split again. I'm having trouble remembering the pre-split price. What was that? Aren't we over that again already? Didn't someone post a week or so ago that a 2:1 split could be done with a minimum of procedural requirements?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

There’s really no reason to be insulting. I DID look it up and, unfortunately, my source was incorrect. This Motley fool article on RMDs incorrectly states that RMDs must be taken in cash. I appreciate your correcting my misunderstanding. Enough of this off-topic discussion now.
