Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Thanks. Chanan does an amazing job. So much prep. Stemmed from frustration with ir.tesla.com, but then kept getting improved and improved. He just published a new, edited version to fix things that happen in real-time transcription, etc.

Prospective new Model 3 owner is looking for adivce on the owning experience in the Tampa area.

Model 3 No Entertainment for Passenger

Is an odd issue in the Model 3. Wasn't a problem in Model S/X. Occasionally works to just tap the screen, but I'm not sure why. However, Camp Mode now solves the problem. Just have to turn that on.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Don't know about Model 3 production in GF3, but it seems logical to work in there if the challenge is simply the production line, not the car design. Based on that quote, I assume you are right and GF3 Model 3 will use the new wiring system.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Thanks. When/where is that August 31 guidance from? I'm personally bullish on Model Y production/deliveries, but would still be cautious about expectations until Elon says more. "Limited production" could start in Q1 and the vehicles delivered at some point in Q2. Tesla is not going to deliver...
  6. ZachShahan

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yes, that was confirmed. The new wiring will not be in the Model 3. Good point. That somehow didn't cross my mind.
  7. ZachShahan

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

We don't have precise details on who the vehicles will be for or how many — "limited production" is the key phrase, which could mean different things. Frankly, we haven't even heard if early Model Ys will be for Tesla/SpaceX employees like with Model 3 (unless I missed something). Will Tesla...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yeah, we'll see. I like that idea. OTOH, not sure how much "limited production" is and how long it takes to get through that to real production. Model 3 limited production was quite limited, but I think we all expect more from Model Y.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Addendum to our article: I think it's important to remember this is about production. Production ≠ deliveries. Just to try to make sure speculation and expectations don't get out of hand, we will publish another piece to make this point more strongly. Q1 start of limited production and Q3 start...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Nope Assume it all depends on how that goes, and given Tesla's experience with "production hell," no one is getting ahead of the ball there. Just my assumption.

Our primary source has a superb track record. Have published some previous info from them and held back on bunch of other info, but it's all proven to be solid. That said, a Q1 2019 target from Oct 2018 is just that — I'll also wait until it arrives before counting Ychickens. Edit: That said...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Tesla's dead in Q4. Plus, sales = bad because it means those people already got their cars and no one else is going to buy them once everyone who wanted one bought one or something like that.

    Only 93-94K — why so pessimistic? :D
  15. ZachShahan

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

OK, that's totally fine and I agree. It just seems that many people treat the numbers like they aren't based on publicly available info (like they have delivery figures from somewhere), so wanted to be extra sure they don't have some source that I somehow didn't know about.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Sorry if I missed something, and I do appreciate what they do, but isn't InsideEVs always just guessing on Tesla? I've never seen any indication they have data no one else has, yet people seem to assume they do. Maybe I missed an update?

So many cases like this. But I also think that's why there's more latent demand in the market than some people thing. Once those people have their fears allayed, and have more time in a Tesla, their minds will open.

Ha, yes, we've been contacted by countless companies. But we don't blindly believe a competitor who is complaining about a market leader. In fact, I'd say the reaction is quite the opposite. If they are complaining about a competitor, the competitor must be on to something. :D

A year or two ago, a VW exec expressed what seemed to be genuine bewilderment about BMW's & Daimler's PHEV-heavy strategy. He said something along the lines of, "We [at VW] don't get it."

OK, call me naive, but I'm in the media business. Writers generally don't know, or when they know, don't really care who is running sponsorships on our site. We are a relatively small site. I definitely believe that. I think it's subtle/scattered enough that the journalists think they are figuring things out. And that's also why I clarify with the term "direct corruption," because I do think this indirect corruption is at play. Useful idiots.

Gali had a good video on this. (Think it was him, someone debunking Chanos concerns.) Obviously, reporting on this kind of thing at Tesla and nowhere else makes Tesla look abnormal. Need to publish another piece on how that is warping perception of Tesla. Which automakers have had their CEO...

Reporting on Tesla by Russ Mitchell (LA Times)

Tremendous work. Superb. As I was reading through it and looking at the headlines, though, something else came to my mind. My hunch is that he started "learning" from Lutz, Chanos, Spiegel, and the like. He got caught up in the TSLAQ community and arguments — bubbles, they're a thing. Once...

I think there's generally: anti-tech bias and anti-billionaire bias at the NYTimes and in similar places across the industry. They don't understand EVs well, don't understand Tesla well, and don't understand why it's more valuable to offer praise for some successes rather than try to tear...

I am with @tinm on the unpopular idea that editors don't worry about who runs ads in the paper. I honestly don't think the editorial side messes with that — probably a good firewall between it. Furthermore, these are people who have risen to the top of their profession, which values objectivity...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Oddly, I fully agree with both of you. I'd just add that the "corruption" on the editor end might be simple personal bias. Remember, if they don't have an EV, they probably don't think an EV makes sense. Why that is can vary greatly. The issue of horrible media coverage is something we've been...
