Just as an update - I had my two old fobs replaced w/ two of the new fobs (80bit) today during a mobile service (door handle repair). Cost was $150 per remote, no labor charge.

Don't say that too loud, you might jink yourself like I did :). For the last two annual policies, I've enjoyed a ~$100/month premium from Liberty Mutual for my Model S for full coverage (250/500). I sang their praises to any and all Tesla owners I could find. I just got my renewal documents...

I expect Tesla do to what Tesla said they would do (over a year ago) - which is provide a P100D loaner. If you think expecting them to simply follow thru on their statements is equivalent to wanting my feet kissed, then by all means have them pucker up.

I too look past those things in a sense (i still after all, by choice, own a Tesla), but at the same time they are still present in my mind. The driving experience is so fantastic that I put up with crap from Tesla that I would never tolerate from another mfgr, but that doesn't mean those things...

Both BMW and Audi will "phone home" if there are service events that need to be addressed. I had a low oil warning pop up on my Audi, and the next morning my local service center called to ask if I needed to make an appt to address it..... I am 100% positive that Tesla's monitoring/alerting...

Is there any data to back that "higher quality" statement up? Or are we just rolling with anecdotes? I have the opposite impression that you do, but I am willing to admit up front that it's my subjective opinion and nothing more.

I love my car and will buy another when the time comes, but there is no way I want to own it when it's out of warranty. I would recommend getting Tesla's extended warranty.

I'll be the pedantic nerd, and call out the distinction between electric power steering (in lieu of a hydraulic pump) and "Drive by wire" electric steering which doesn't use a mechanical connection between the steering wheel and road wheels under normal conditions.
