    Model Y Alternatives?

I am refreshing the "best ev SUV" and "best luxury EV SUVs" searches as I wait forever for my Model Y LR. I am not seeing the Mercedes-EQ on any of the top lists. Too new or no good? Has anyone considered it, driven it?

    CA Waiting Room

Made reservation in Feb 2022, current delivery window Oct 6 - Dec 1, 2022. Someone wrote to speed up delivery, mark no trade, cash payment, change later. Does the community share this opinion as common wisdom? Is it easy to change it later? Like, when is a good time to introduce the trade-in?

    CA Waiting Room

Judging by your signature line, switching from LR to P helped. How do you feel about it? I hate everything about P. Price, energy consumption, more expensive tires and, I assume, bumpier ride. It's a racket, but then so is everything else about Model Y.

    CA Waiting Room

Let me know if this sounds familiar: Tesla sends you a reminder to "prepare for your Model Y delivery by providing registration details", you start the process, decide you want to register it to two people, do the thing with the QR code, the drivers license and the selfie, turn left, turn right...

    CA Waiting Room

When I got my Model 3 in 2018, I looked closely at the color options and got the metallic gray. I knew I chose the best color when I saw that every other Model 3 on the road is metallic gray. Now I am thinking, should I have gotten the "best" aka most popular color, or something more unique? Red...

    Homelink Install

I meant how much is HomeLink, but I guess it's immaterial. Everyone is going to get it. Oh Tesla. How I used to like you.

    Homelink Install

Am I reading this correctly, the only way to get HomeLink (from Tesla) is to schedule an install after taking delivery? How much is it?

    CA Waiting Room

I own Model 3 since 2018, I love it dearly. Wife wants a Model Y. Signed up in early Feb, 2022. The app/website said estimated delivery in August 2022, but the sales guy said "don't pay attention to that, I'll get you one by mid-April". Mid-April came and went, and the app and website now say...

Losing 5% Parked Daily, Connection Issue?

Trying to digest and reconcile all the advice. My drain (in the garage) has been bad. One advice: turn off WiFi. Another (well, not advice, but an observation): bad LTE signal --> drain. I live in a bad LTE signal area. Am I better off shutting off WiFi or not? Does connected WiFi make up for...

M3: Strange sleeping behavior when parked at home

My car rarely sleeps in my garage as far as I can tell, and the vampire drain matches this behavior (is high). I read about things to shut off: sentry, summon, data sharing (will the Tesla app continue working?), USB, WiFi. Is that about it? What I was wondering is whether it is normal for the...

    Scheduled charging vs Scheduled Departure

I am on a TOU plan with off-peak hours of 9 PM to 4 PM. Basically, I do no want the car to charge between 4 PM and 9 PM. I do not commute. If I go to the scheduled charging menu, it has three tabs: OFF, Start time and Departure Time (if memory serves). In the Start Time tab, I could set start...

Can I see photos of how you are using a bike water holder to hold the UMC plugged into NEMA 14-50?

NEMA 14-50 outlet is getting installed today in the garage. I imagine I will have a say in which way it gets oriented: up, down or sideways. I assume it is generally agreed that suspending the UMC from the outlet is not a fantastic idea. Do most people angle their NEMA 14-50 outlets up, and then...

What is the least attractive color for Model 3, from your observations?

Yes, others are much more tolerant of white. In my humble opinion, you should mount the plates on a stock mount. Not something you can (easily) undo, so it would be nice to first find someone else's white Model 3 with black plates on a stock mount to confirm for yourself that it's a great idea.

What is the least attractive color for Model 3, from your observations?

Silver leads by a wide margin as of this writing, but that's not why I stopped by. I stopped by to report that I saw a white Model 3 with a front mounted black California plate. White was one of my original two most hated colors. In fact, this poll originally only had "Silver", "White" and...

Go Ahead -- Grade my Vanity Plate Idea

A front plate on a Model 3 is just the thing. I was on my way to the "Worst color" thread to report that a white Model 3 with a black plate looks positively dignified. Plus it's the law. I know all Tesla owners are rebels at heart, but still.

    Secret word for configuring Homelink?

Having read your note, I, too, rebooted the system when it refused to activate the Homelink, and it worked. While it's a less drastic step than reprogramming Homelink from scratch, I am not looking forward to doing this regularly. Maybe the issue was resolved in 2018.28.1, which I received today.

He fixed it alright. However, the original report is inaccurate as far as I am concerned. There is no other product in existence where shopping around is as necessary as in car insurance. For me LM was the lowest. Their original April quote said I was enjoying special group savings as a result...

    Is Insure My Tesla gone?

If they try anything with me, I can fall back on Progressive. If I sell the third car, I can go back to 21st. It was only the third car that made things awkward with them. Two drivers two cars they could handle, even with Model 3, nothing egregious.

Go Ahead -- Grade my Vanity Plate Idea

If we're going to reminisce on all vanity plates we have owned, I put a plate on a leased C-class in the early 2000s that went HE METPO. One space is allowed in California, so I used it. I am not going to translate it as I am curious who might be able to decode it. A secret handshake of sorts.

    Is Insure My Tesla gone?

I ended up going with Liberty. Not only did their April quote (from the Insure My Tesla days) hold, it went down by $15 once the VIN was plugged in. $1,942 for a year for two drivers, three cars. $1000 deductible, perfect record.

    Is Insure My Tesla gone?

Progressive is not bad, thank you, but if the April quote from Liberty holds, they will be better than Progressive by $124/year. Progressive is better than my current 21st Century by $240/year. In all, these are all within margin of error. No one is wildly high or low. 21st Century quote will...

    Bad, bad carwash

That's not exactly what I said. I have not made arrangements to add the car to the insurance -- or rather, to switch insurance as my current one will be bad with Tesla. A new car is automatically insured for one month under existing insurance. I will take care of this today. Or tomorrow.

Three things went wrong with my first carwash yesterday. Like buying insurance, having the Model 3 washed was one of the things I never looked forward to and put off as long as possible. I took delivery on July 2, and this was my first carwash. I have three more days left before not having...

What is the least attractive color for Model 3, from your observations?

The point of the thread is entertainment. Even though it is said that disliking something because it is popular is just as bad as liking something because it is popular, that is exactly one reason I dislike MSM. Everyone likes it. We were crazy enough to get a Model 3, yet predictable enough...

    Secret word for configuring Homelink?

Is there a list of all known bugs?

A software company will typically have a website where users can report, vote on, and read up on bugs, so that the company knows the size of each issue, and users don't waste time reporting the same bug. Does anything like that exist for Tesla? Either run by company or one of the major user...

    Secret word for configuring Homelink?

Bringing the clicker inside the frunk worked for me. Tesla learned the signal, told me to push the "Learn" button on the opener, and declared the process completed. It worked for a few days, then stopped opening the garage door. You know when you push the Homelink button, there is a momentary...
