2020 Shipping Movements

Most cars come into the Bay Area through Richmond. It's just as close as SF and you wouldn't have to cross the Bay Bridge, but I imagine it's full up with Japanese imports. The rail yard just to the north is where Tesla ships cars by rail. The Ford Assembly plant, lovely building, is where Henry Ford built cars in California back in the day. The Eagle Rock building is used to import gravel from Canada by boat (slightly off topic). You would think shipping gravel is crazy, but apparently they've made so much money they're building a similar facility in Oakland. It's all indoors because of air pollution regulations.

I also just found out that Ctrl-Z, which undoes your last action, works on this site for those times when you accidently erase whole paragraphs.

Mr. Miserable, do you know why the vast majority of ro-ro’s have their main loading ramp on the starboard side and therefore have to moor as such? I thought port would have been a more logical default.
I believe the original K Line ships in the sixties had loading doors on the starboard side of the ship. Designers realised a stern ramp would be the most efficient use of space however that would require specialised dock facilities to be built and so a compromise was reached - 'the quarter ramp' . Since the car carriers had established a standard of 'starboard side to' the logic was a starboard quarter ramp. It does make life easier for all concerned as everybody knows that this class of ship will always dock starboard side to.

According to Marine Radar, RCC Antwerp is now docked at Berth 40 at Southampton...

Thank you to Mr Miserable for all his work in providing information, it's much appreciated by me. The last few weeks have been quite entertaining keeping a track of my car's journey.

A source in the USA has just confirmed to me that my faith in the GLOVIS SUN turning up to load is well-founded however I have yet to identify the others. The 'others'?
That's my weekend ruined...[/

And you just saved mine! I ordered my M3P october 21 and thought that the chance for delivery in december was gone. My hope lives again!!

GLOVIS CRYSTAL is preparing to depart from Pier 80. She has updated her AIS wiith an ETA for Balboa of 01:00 23 Nov.
That is a fairly unambitious target to meet.
I estimate she will arrive in Zeebrugge on 5 Dec and Southampton a couple of days after that.

Seems late October is a good time to order if you want one fast. I think mine is on this ship, based on ETA and my delivery texts

Thanks for the excellent work, Mr. M!

It has been fascinating to watch the RCC Antwerps' journey from loading in SF, transit down and through the Panama Canal, crossing the Atlantic to Zeebrugge and finally to Southampton. I'd therefore like to gratefully thank Mr M for starting this thread and enabling us all to be part of the the delivery journey of our very own Tesla's.

In my earlier years (1974-84) I was in the RFA and experienced many crossings around the world in very small "RORO" type ships (LSL's) in many different sea conditions. It has been particularly fascinating and informative as I haven't transited the canal, your explanations have been fascinating and indeed educational.

Thanks again Mr M.

RCC ANTWERP arrived in Southampton Eastern Docks early this morning. She needed to load for her next trip which will be to Singapore & China via Bremerhaven. The trouble is her Tesla cargo was required in the Western Docks. She has now moved across to the Western docks and by now unloading will have commenced. The problem with this sort of operation is maintaining the ship’s trim especially for her next voyage to Bremerhaven. Last month when she was loaded at Pier 80 the cars for Southampton will have been loaded assuming that they would be the last to be unloaded. The plan for loading in Eastern docks would have assumed that the ship was empty. So a new plan will have had to be created probably involving lots of ballast. This is precisely the sort of situation that can lead to a HOEGH OSAKA incident if the crew are not vigilant. The good news is that I don’t think much will have been loaded this morning.

TRITON ACE continues to progress across the Atlantic at 17.8kts 900nm E of Bermuda
At midday she was N32.7 W46.5. This shows her about 150nm east of the normal route in an attempt to avoid the worst of the Atlantic weather tomorrow.
She will arrive in Zeebrugge on 20 Nov and Southampton on 22 Nov

I shall announce the winner of the TRITON ACE competition later today.

GRAND AURORA is attempting to keep clear of Tropical Storm Iota in the Caribbean.
This storm is intensifying rapidly and will soon become a full blown hurricane.

GRAND AURORA is heading for the Mona passage but is hugging the north coast of Colombia. This will keep her clear of the storms path and also put her on the less violent south side. Nevertheless, I’m sure the crew will have checked and rechecked the cargo lashings.
Her ETA for Zeebrugge is 24 Nov and I estimate she should arrive in Southampton on 26/27 Nov.

TOSCANA No update to her position has been received but I estimate she will progressing up the Red Sea
She will arrive in Zeebrugge on 27 Nov

GLOVIS CRYSTAL departed Pier 80 at 6:20pm local yesterday and is making good progress down the Pacific coast. Her ETA for Balboa is 01:00 23 Nov and so I estimate she will arrive in Zeebrugge on 5 Dec and Southampton a couple of days later.

TANNHAUSER is currently making 14 kts across the Bay of Bengal
At midday she was at N6.1 E92.9
She will arrive at Suez on 25 Nov and Zeebrugge of 6 Dec.

RCC AMSTERDAM At midday she was in the process of moving alongside Pier 80.
I can now announce that she will be coming to Europe!
I estimate she will arrive in Zeebrugge around 7 Dec

GLOVIS SUN will be coming to Pier 80 to load in the coming days however I suspect that she will be heading to Asia

There is still time for another shipment to Europe!……
However it looks as though there could be possibly 2 more shipments.
I am fairly sure one will be GLOVIS CAPTAIN arriving in Zeebrugge around 14 Dec
I have yet to identify the second ship but another arriving just before Christmas may be on the cards. If so, this is really late and it will pose a real challenge for all these cars to be delivered in Q4

Nevertheless it looks like the Q4 deliveries to Europe are on track to break the record.

TRITON ACE COMPETITION RESULT
The winning gridsquare was Q11 which nobody had claimed.
The nearest claimed square was P12 which proved to be a very popular choice with no less than 4 people claiming it.
So it's between @Jan @512uk @Davids2885 and @thelegalbeagle
The rule is that the person who chose the square first will be the winner
@thelegalbeagle chose the square on 31 Oct at 19:20 and so is declared the winner!
Bucketloads of admiration are winging their way to you which if you are a legal beagle I'm sure will be a novelty for you.

Congratulations to @thelegalbeagle.
Well I couldn't even get the right square for Triton Ace and for a while thought my car was on it. I have been told it's on Grand Aurora so will wait and see how close, or far away, I am with this one.
Thanks to Mr. Miserable for organising this bit of fun. Just wish he could help Tesla put their customers first and supply us with factual information.
