Tesla Model Y Owner's Manual, page 167:

NOTE: Installing accessories that are not approved by Tesla can interfere with the TPMS. CAUTION: Avoid placing powered USB devices near the card reader on the center console (see Key Card on page 7) as powered USB devices may interfere with the tire pressure monitoring system.

Hmm, this is what our manual sates:
"Don't connect multiple devices via a USB-Hub, otherwise the connected devices might not get charged or the Media Player or the Sentry Mode or the Dashcam might not get recognized.

Edit:
Sorry for my bad translation, this is the UK-Version:
"Do not connect multiple devices using a USB hub. This can prevent connected devices from charging or from being recognized by Media Player, Sentry Mode, Dashcam, etc."

The USB-A 3.0 data port (currently located inside the glovebox) can provide power of 5V at up to 900mA [Corrected]. USB 1.0 and 2.0 were limited to 5V at up to 500mA [Corrected]. If you use a USB thumb drive or a microSD card with USB card reader this will not overload the USB-A 3.0. If you use an SSD such as the Samsung T7 you might be close to overloading the USB-A 3.0 port.

USB 2.0 5V 500mA = 2.5 W and USB 3.0 5V 900 mA = 4.5 W

Ok, so my '22 LRY was delivered 12/23, and I've been trying various items in the non-glovebox USB ports. I do have the ports, and wireless charging, but I don't seem to get either data OR power from the other 4 USB ports. I know that doesn't seem to make any sense, but it's like the 4 ports are there but not connected to anything! Anyone else run into this?

The (2) front USB-C ports deep inside the center console should work, at a minimum, to provide power (if they are working.) The rear facing (2) USB-C ports have always been for powering a device, never supported data. I use the wireless charging pad to charge my iPhone. I verified that I can use an Apple lightning cable plugged into the rear facing USB-C ports to charge my iPhone using this USB-C to USB adapter. (My 2020 Model Y has the original console so there is only a single USB-C port (powering the wireless charging pad) and a single USB port used for Dashcam/Sentry mode and my USB music library. (I use an unpowered USB hub.)

KIKIMO USB C to USB Adapter Fit for Tesla Model 3/Y/S/X

Just got my 2022 M3 LR last Tuesday. The USB-C ports inside the center console are present and powered, but are not talking to the infotainment computer (controllers, drives don’t work). USB in glovebox works fine with drives and controllers. I know that the rear ports are power-only and are functioning as such.

As far as I can see, the manual indicates these are supposed to communicate with infotainment. I've scheduled service for sometime towards the end of the month. Software version 2021.35.103. The restart combination of holding both steering wheel buttons successfully reboots the screen, but does fix the issue.

Anyone else run into this issue? If so, were you able to fix it?
same here with my 2022 model Y, got myself a usb-c hub to connected usb A flash drive for the lightship and it doesn't read, it only charges my phone.

Ah ok, I had been using an adapter myself, and was not getting power out of any of the USB C ports. I finally found a USB C lightning cable and it did work. It seems crappy they took away data capability in all of the ports except the glovebox, but if I'm really honest I doubt I would ever use them anyways for that. Along those lines, I noticed that Cuphead is not one of the games in the Arcade. Did they remove this due to the lack of data USB ports to plug a controller into?

It was confirmed to me that the games requiring a controller were removed due to the lack of data in the center USB ports. The text provided to me via the service app was as such:

"Hello <name>, we have received the official communication. All vehicles that were built after November 18, 2021 will not have these games installed due to the front USB Hub not supporting data transfer. All games that require a controller have been removed from the release. Also, they are looking at the option of supporting bluetooth controllers in the future but this is pure speculation at this point. I hope this answers your questions."

So...even if you are able to connect a controller to the glove box USB port, they won't let you play the games that require controllers - I'm guessing to reduce the number of service complaints they get that controllers aren't working (from people who are perhaps less technically inclined than those on this forum). I just hope they don't remove the ability to play music from USB drives for the same reason - that works now, but only from the glove box of course.

As an aside...anyone with a Nov 19 and later built, when you install the 44.30 release, it no longer lists Sonic as being included. So they fixed the bug of not having installed Sonic, by removing reference to its installation instead of by installing it  .

That is ridiculous, they are basically fragmenting all these different cars with different specs. If the customer wants to jump through hoops to put a hub in the data port to play the game, let them, but to completely not allow the game to be installed.

Yeah, Tesla has been doing this since day one. What do they call it, continuous improvement or something. The benefit is it's always different and (hopefully) improving (heated steering wheel, laminated glass, etc) but not always (lack of lumbar support, removal of speaker, etc)

Clearly this is not done with the customer in mind. Having the newest models be incompatible with the newest features can't be their plan - what we have is a failure of execution. I wonder if Musk wants to amend his tweet to say "Sonic is coming to all Tesla's! Except the new ones."

If I could figure out a way to do so, you could have mine... ;) I never use the games and toys in my MY, other than the Christmas time sleigh ride and lights. There's always something to get done, never the time to waste on games, since I rarely need to SC so not stuck in the car waiting. I have Xbox, PS, large screen TV and a comfy couch for that.

For me, the 15" screen on the Tesla is such low quality, I would rather game on my phone or ipad

Guys, juste a shower thought.
If they plan on releaasing an upgraded computer with Ryzen-grade specs, like ot's better than a PS5 man, Elon style, they CAN'T let the controller compatiblity in its current state. I'm pretty confident aa workaround/fix will come at some point, but when? We don't know. I'm pretty sure we will know more when the Ryzen MCU will hit the market. Be patient.

I’ve got even worse news.

I have a ‘22 MYLR born after 11/1/21 with crippled console USB c ports.

As a work around I put a 4 port usb a hub in the glovebox. I mounted the Tesla usb thumb drive for sentry, a microsd card to port 2 for usb music, and I have a wired controller for use in third port. 4th port empty. I leave the game controller not plugged in. I’m planning to get a wireless dongle to eventually occupy one slot for gaming rather than using a wired controller.

Was three hours from home, just supercharged, and the touch screen went unresponsive. Music started skipping. Then the screen went dark. I was driving at the time. It was night. Headlights stayed on, but directionals no longer functioned externally or internally. Obviously had no idea what speed I was going.

I held down both steering wheel buttons for 20 seconds. Nothing. Pulled over.

Tried both buttons again. Nothing. Tried brake pedal plus both buttons. Nothing. Called support.

While waiting for support, the screen woke up and gave an initializing message. It was dark for over 5 minutes before it recovered.

Support remoted in and said my cpu was going crazy processing and it was likely because i had a usb hub. He said the usb hub in the glovebox can only handle sentry and that’s it. I can take it out for a usb music drive, or for a game controller. He said they don’t support using a hub in the glovebox because the cpu can’t handle the data load.

So I have a new car that can’t be safely driven if I try to use music in it while driving. I have no ability to leave a usb hub in. I have no other place to plug in data for boombox, gaming, or usb music. I’m told by support that the car can’t handle it. I am denied Sonic and Cuphead.

This is despite the manuals clearly stating that all of this functionality exists and is designed for regular use. That is except for those tens of thousands of us who had the data from the consoles quietly removed months after we ordered the car. This is a deceitful and underhanded alteration.

Now there isn’t even a safe workaround.

Let the lawsuits begin.
