Are you sure you don't mean the 7th character in your VIN, boilerbots?

5YJSA1CG#DFP#####

I expected that with the "40 is really software-limited-60" you'd have "CG" for 7th and 8th characters.

My 7th and 8th are "AC". Further confusion when I call Allstate to add this vehicle to my auto policy and they say the VIN subtype is not in their system. They only expect the 85 and 60 vehicles so far. They are going to look into this. The main question is what will the replacement cost be incase of an accident. Will Tesla offer to replace my vehicle with another 60 but apply the software limit again?

I hope I never find out, but this matters to the insurance company.

My car arrived yesterday in a covered 2 car hauler at my house. Had a small heart attack when the driver Duke's of Hazard style jumped in through the window. Then when backing up, he must have lifted out of the seat because the car thunked to a stop. He says, "did I hit something?".

Drove all day yesterday, with about an hour sitting in the garage charging while setting up all the functions. Took it to dinner and the valet let me park it myself up front. I've already had three groups of people approach me about the car, all knew what it was.

Brought it in to get the new wheels this morning, I like it! The car is overall just unbelievable. It's almost surreal that it's actually here now. This picture does not do it justice!

Finally saw a Tesla Model S...

...My own!

The car is simply stunning, I was in shock just standing there looking at it.

Car was purchased as a 60, delivered as a 40, then upgraded to 60kwh 24 hours later after I pointed out the mistake.

Interesting - just the opposite for me. After the SW update I got the slider bar and limitation to 72%:

Noticed the charge indicates above the maximum allowed. It took a few days for the charge to drop enough for scheduled charging to take effect :)

They ended up using more than 40 to provide the same advertised range that they had planned on for it. This is most likely due to the extra weight of lugging around unused cells.

Hilarious level of gawking and attention today. One woman about broke her neck driving by. Another decided to tail me going 80+ on the freeway, with both hand on her cell phone taking pictures. It's been very tense because if this car ever gets wrecked I basically won't get to have another. Insurance will only pay for the value of a car I can't buy anymore. Come on lady concentrate on driving!

Then I get to work and the 4 top staff level and director storm up to get a guided tour. They were very impressed. The director asked if they make an SUV...soon!

While waiting for a friend to come down for lunch, two more people stopped to ask about the car.

Have my beautiful 40 kWh Tesla for two weeks now and loving it. Was tempted to upgrade for the superchargers after the announcement, but it's still $13k more. Also the Tesla specialist on the phone said that there were only 100-200 40s made and certainly unique and big value. I had the impression it was 6% or closer to 600, but he said many people have upgraded to 60 already. Does anyone have a good 40s count?

Where do you see 72%? I might be overdue for an eye check.

I was told by an ownership experience advocate:

Moving forward, this update will limit the battery pack to charging up to 72% of the total 60kWh battery capacity, in line with what would be expected of a 40kWh Model S.

I'm just trusting this is what the upper value is. I don't think the selected percentage has any thing to do with the battery size. It was calculated to provide a 140 mile rated range since that's what one gets after a full charge. The question is why does Tesla even state "72%." Now that I think of it, perhaps the charging logic doesn't charge to the 140 mile value as we think. While that would have been entirely possible, the user would never see degradation of the battery. On the other hand, if they used percentage of capacity, then the rated range after a full charge would degrade as the battery degrades. I wonder if that is what is going on here.

I was scheduled to pick mine up on the 14th, but now they are saying it will be here in 3 days! That's exciting! I would love to know a total for 40s.
So,
I live in VA, but am picking up in MD. I was told that they can no longer register my car for me, that I have to do it myself for Virginia. Any advice on how to do that? Do I do it in advance? If not, am I allowed to drive from the service center?

The email from DS made original delivery appointment for JUNE 3. I received another email from local DS , My Tesla was ready for pickup May 29.
6 day sold today and the Rated Range at pickup was 143 ... today its 140?
Why is My Tesla losing Rated Range? There are no EV chargers at work, I lose 5-7 miles of range with car parked? Who is stealing my Rated Range?
I also received my first warning light ".tire monitoring system" and to take car to Tesla Service. Light is now off.

Welcome!
There is an entire thread about the range loss
Power drain while idle (Vampire Load))

Basically, until Tesla re-enables a sleep mode that loss is normal. Double check your tire pressure as they may be overinflated coming off of the truck.

Well I stand corrected. The AZ DMV absolutely used the old sales tax rate. They used the estimated delivery date on the MVPA to determine what rate to use. In my case the date was 5/31. AZ sales tax decreased 1% on 6/1. An $800 mistake on my part not asking Tesla to push it back a day. My car came 5/27 so technically this is fair, but sucks. Still love the car btw.

It was on the slider bar on an earlier release of 4.5. After one of updates the 72% indicator disappeared. The 40kw has gone through several updates of various releases of 4.5, my other S is still on 4.4

Exactly the same thing JUST happened to me. I had the 72% on the bar. If I changed the charge level, it would indicate the percentage that I am changing to (say 50%). I just ran an update (was on 4.5, and after this update still on 4.5). The percentage indicator for 72% as well as for charge level disappeared.
