I have no knowledge on Tow Hitch use.. and brief would be much appreciated.

Well, when the 3rd row of the 7 seat is in use, for both the Model X and the Model Y, the rear trunk size is quite reduced.

So having a tow hitch allow to install a platform above the rear bumper for extra storage.
This is better for consumption than having a box on the roof, and of course this is not possible with the Model X.

Otherwise a tow hitch can be very practical to carry bicycles.

You can also tow a trailer, from one of those U-Haul one that you can rent at Home Depot to a caravan for camping or a boat.

Is this something I’ll can add on after purchase ? And if that costs same/more?
Yes, as mentioned by @vickh you can get installed at a Tesla Service Center for $1000 + $300 install.

However, you don't plan to use any trailer, you could install some after markets models (see e-trailer).

But only Tesla could activate the Towing software, allowing to suppress the warning error from the
bumper sensors, when backing up with a bicycle carrier. And also if you need to have an electrical braking
device controlling your trailer.

Kinda sucks, just took delivery last week. At least I didn't pay an extra $3000. Crazy to think those that took delivery on April 17th, 2023 for a 7 seater Y paid $4000 more just for taking delivery 11 days earlier.

Your statement is not clear, you said:

those that took delivery on April 17th, 2023 for a 7 seater Y paid $4000 more

but I think it should be:

those that took delivery on April 17th, 2023 for a 7 seater Y paid $1000 more
However, you are right, I think that when the price got adjusted,
the Model Y 7-seat option should had been adjusted the same way, especially hen been more expensive than
the Model X 7-seat option which has extra vents and heated seats.

Tesla reduced prices on the model Y by $3000 on April 18th, 2023, then they reduced prices on the 7-seat options by $1000 April 27th, 2023. That is $4000 total.

Fourth updated delivery date posted this morning, and I'm finally getting close:

OD: 2/18, EDD: Apr - Jun 2023
2/23 EDD: April 19 - May 31 2023
3/7 EDD: April 22 - May 27 2023
4/17 EDD: May 20 - June 24 2023
5/1 EDD: May 11 - May 25 2023

Is the advice still to wait to fill out a lease application until I'm notified that the VIN is assigned?

Hey guys what a great fourm ! This will be my first post here. Recently test drive the model Y and realized what I was missing ( own a 2015 Honda CRV Touring ) .. Still in two minds because as really want features like RCTA which might come in Hardware 4.0 but dont want to derail this thread here.

Based on the thread here does this mean that the average wait time after booking is around 1.5 months ?

Uhaul was charging around $300 for the class 2 hitch and $250 for the install . If we get the tow hitch installed when buying the car it is $1000 . Doesn't that make more sense as we get the tow software too or am I missing something ?

I wouldn't trust Uhual but are there any TSLA specialists in AZ/CA that would do it for cheaper than $1k?

In any case the cost of install should run $150 to $200. This with the added cost of the hitch would make.it close to $500. I think getting it factory installed makes sense. I installed hitch on my own in CRV and it was not a fun experience . Turned out well though !

Love that i just found and purchased an Inventory 7 seater sitting in Rocklin black/black/black LR AWD. Could likely pickup tomorrow 5/3 If could get my ducks in a row, but for some reason duck delivery takes 3 business days. Plus private Model S sale or Trade in TBD for some other ducks to line up.

I am having a hard time trying to understand this tracker as it is both for 5 and 7 seater . Major entries are for 5 seater . I called up my local showroom and they said wait for 7 seater is 2 months average . But I did find that guy to be a little lost so I really don't trust him. I want to order asap but take delivery immediately after July 23 that is after second quarter earnign result declaration. Based on recent trends when should I order ? I want to assume no 14 days hold as that will be a backup in case delivery rates suddenly pick up. Kindly help.

You can look at my post just above yours to see my personal experience. Beyond that you can just sort the “Interior Layout” column on that spreadsheet from Z to A to have all of the 7 seaters brought to the top for you.

Let us know if it has HW 4 :) ! I know it sounds absurd but if you check my post in the HW4 thread a YouTube claims they have started putting them in the Y. All the best for your delivery ,let us know how it went !
That video doesn't show anything that suggests HW4 is coming to the Model Y. We have to acknowledge a change for delivery in the app, but this is just the standard "no USS' confirmation that everyone has had to do for quite a while. I think they're just fishing for views.

Thx. Having missed out on HW3.0 by weeks on my 3 (even though Elon tweeted ALL cars have it I got a leftover :( ) I don't want to do that again with my MYAWD
