90D with 5 seats confirmed for nearly 2 months. What's going on?

The first six letters of my Model X 5 seat VIN are 5YJXCD. Teslatap reports that the "D" in position 6 is an unknown character. I take that to mean the Model X 5 seat version has VIN numbers that are both different from and too new to be accurately reported by the teslatap.com website.

I'm guessing double-digits max. I'm surprised to hear some of these cars are slated for production soon (or already in production?) and we've had zero word on what the cargo/seat configuration will look like. I've e-mailed and not received any response... it's a mystery.

How many 5 seater orderers do you think are out there?
Given that Tesla has actively worked to change(discounted upgrades)/suppress 5 seat orders(long delivery lead times) the number of orders is irrelevant(no way of making even an intelligent guess). What I do believe would be relevant is how many orders they might have now that they have started producing it and if, a big IF, it is delivered with the second row folding.

I declined two offers from Tesla to get a discount on a 6 seat Model X version. They made those offers prior to the end of September, when Tesla was busy pumping up the third quarter sales figures. In the first week of October, once Tesla's motivation to pump third quarter sales figures ended, I advised my delivery specialist to let me know if the 5 seat Model X would not have folding rear seats, and that if it did not, I would consider switching to the 6 seat version. That was another attempt to get a useful answer about the folding seats, not an attempt to switch to 6 seats. Since the delivery specialist did not take the bait I offered and recommend that I switch to the 6 seat version, I take that as another subtle confirmation that the 5 seat version has folding rear seats. The fact is that if the rear seats in the 5 seat Model X do not fold, there would have been no legitimate reason to delay its production. They could have just removed the 3rd row seats and called it a five seater. But they waited because....they wanted to do it right. Right?
It is also a fact that if the rear seats in the 5 seat Model X do not fold flat, I will cancel my order.

DS regularly don't answer emails. I want to be a "folding seat believer", but without positive confirmation I don't want to get my hopes up.
If you don't know ahead of time will you decline it on delivery day? I guess your DS can give you the good/bad news when it arrives at the service center in preparation for delivery?

The earnings report has a comment in it about "additional Model X seating variants" driving demand going forward. I assume that refers to the 5-seat version shipping soon. But does the plural use of variant mean that there might be additional options coming as well? Like maybe a 7 seat version where all of the seats fold flat, or are easily removable? Or even a two seat version? (i.e. a van.)

My understanding, based on a very well placed insider opinion, which is the opinion I develop while seated alone inside my study, is that the additional Model X seating variants are indeed driving demand going forward. They have accelerated sales of Model X so much that all 5 seat Model X orders placed by prescient individuals on or before December 25, 2015 who have emphatically, persistently, and publicly encouraged Tesla, and have demanded of Tesla, that Tesla manufacture the 5 seat version and "do it right", will be awarded the special distinction "Nikola Patience Award". The award will consist of a full refund for the cost of the 5 seat Model X, plus weekly lobster salad picnics.

The good news is that I live 20 miles from the Fremont factory. My Model X delivery takes place there. If the rear seats don't fold, I drive the vehicle back into the assembly line. I am sure they will modify it right in line with the folding 5 seat customer requests. Car companies do that for customers all the time, right?

Ah, the benefits of patience. Did Tesla's strategy of front loading Q3 sales with Model X sales to buyers who wanted, or were willing to settle for, a collection of seats inside their Model X pump up Tesla sales results? Yes, it did. Did Tesla's strategy of creating pent up demand for those Model X buyers who wanted the genuine cargo carry capacity of a real SUV produce a high volume of 5 seat Model X vehicles to be sold in Q4? Yes, it probably did. Did certain 5 seat Model X folks who own Tesla stock benefit from knowing Q3 sales would be very good? Yes, they did. Would I like to thank Tesla for rewarding my patience? Yup.

Did anyone else pick up on this in the 8-K Current Form?

We believe new product variants such as the P100DL, additional Model X seating variants, new product capabilities such as Enhanced Autopilot and hardware for Full Self-Driving Capability, Autopilot 8.0 software, and new store and service center openings should continue to drive strong vehicle order growth.
Did someone say variants?:D Or am I dreaming?

@jsollender have I won the bet now that 5 seat cars have vins and delivery dates or do we have to wait for delivery and a picture?
:);):D:rolleyes:
I will concede! Let me rephrase without any hint of Trumpism. Based on current information from Tesla, they are going to deliver 5 seat cars. I retract my comment that they will never make a 5 seater. What I said was locker room banter and 11 years ago. It wasn't real! My family has accepted my apology and I hope my fellow Americans will too.
Crap. Now even the Donald has inserted himself in this thread. He's Everywhere. Just filled out my ballot last night. Wifey won't show me her top of ballot. Can't totally blame her.
@beths11 where were we on the bet? Was it 5 seaters only or did we throw in folding second row seats?

Clearly it was rigged from the beginning. I think we are done..LOL I am still only mildly optimistic about folding, I don't want to set myself up for disappointment in the car in any way, so I am prepared to love the car with or without folding seats.
