Acceleration Boost Buyers: What do you think?

After trying to talk myself out of it I pulled the trigger on the upgrade. I knew I wouldn't hold out indefinitely, may as well enjoy it early!

The difference is definitely noticeable to me (77% SoC), and this was my first Tesla coming from an ICE so the acceleration was already impressive. The feeling is as if it's a steeper acceleration curve, where it feels almost like there's a very noticeable increase in instantaneous acceleration and then it flattens out to pre-boost levels. There's other threads where they're measuring it much more scientifically -- but the results from the M3's boost are in line with my experience.

I was also worried this might affect the full acceleration range, meaning I was concerned I wouldn't be trying to punch it but the "sport" mode would put out too much power (the fact they drop "Standard" mode was messing with me). That isn't the case, thankfully. When trying to drive normally I notice no difference, which also makes me more confident it won't affect range. But when I do want to punch it, the power's there.

Whether it's worth it, that's up to the individual. We all have different financial situations and different capacities for how silly we are with our money. Once I get used to it and the novelty wears off it's probably not worth it from a pure practicality standpoint, no one needs to go from 0-60 in 4.8s much less 4.3s. If you're trying to race you bought the wrong car.

That said, it's fun, it makes me giggle when I punch it, and I like knowing I'm getting the max specs out of the car I'm driving. I don't think I'll be returning it.

I echo everything you said. It’s hard describing the difference in how a vehicle feels, having owned 7 Corvettes, CTS-V, z-28’s, Trans Am’s, Jaguar, BMW’s and more it’s like trying to describe how speakers or amplifiers sound. But the SNAP with the Acceleration Boost is easily felt and under some circumstances more fun than (you fill in the blank).

Darn it. This is not the thread that I wanted to come across. You all are not helping me. Guess I'll hit up a payday loan then tomorrow morning. BTW. I do find the power delivery on our Y different than on our Model X. It's as it the Y is somewhat progressive where the X is instant.

Is chill mode still an option?

Agreed. No one needs this of course, but it puts a smile on my face. My GF wasn't too thrilled the first time I launched with her in the passenger seat. She said it made her nauseous so she'll be driving in chill mode. :cool:

I think I did about ten 0-60s this past weekend. My SOC was low 70 or below and the power was there every single time. Overall efficiency took a bit of a hit from ~270kWh to ~280kWh avg because I'm only flooring the accelerator for <5s then let off and its back to normal driving.

I agree the acceleration isn't instantaneous, for a Tesla. At about 10-15 is where you start to see the warp speed move and can see the reaction from anyone in the passenger seat, which is about the best reason to get this.
