Air Suspension now a requirement for 6/7 seats? What about 75D orders?

I ordered the 75D after the battery upgrade was announced, b/c I figured I don't want to miss out on the next "free" upgrade, lol.
But I did order the tow hitch...I read some people have received the entire tow package instead of just the hitch (that would be okay with me too :)

So...hopefully the air suspension for my 7-seater will be gratis. One can only hope.

shouldn't you be able to make that determination based on the quoted price?

We can't really expect Tesla to tell the reps... "Were raising price to align with the 90d because too many people are buying the 75d in coil and we need to pad our margins more but don't tell them that".

When the air suspension breaks (and it will), More money for service and parts. Plus it raises the exclusivity of the vehicle. Especially the ride for occupants who are considering purchasing.

How would you summarize the difference between coil and air in a very practical precise manner for a) day to day driving with family and b) driving alone going full bazooka.
Edit: the GPS based suspension change won't matter much for me.

I can't do proper comparisons as I haven't had a coiled "S" to drive for a long period. I have driven it once granny style (or like my wife) and I certainly felt the bouncier characteristics of coil.

In coil, you have to slow down for bumps or it will bottom out or bounce depending on severity of bump. The irregularities on the road is felt and is bouncy (but it is not jarring or uncomfortable. You certainly feel the bounce of coil. If you are driving slow on coil suspension and see a speedbump, you have to really slow down or you will bounce hard along with passengers or you speed up a little so you can glide and hop through that bump. Sometimes if you come in too hot and know it so you slow down enough but expect a jarring so you get that tensed up feeling and your you know what puckers up and then you get that jumping sensation on that bump where sometimes cars even scrape on that bump (still with me?); You get none of that with air.

On air, You hear and feel the jarring of the vehicle. It is more of a thud and the suspension is stiffer where you hear little jarring thuds on the affected corners of the car where the bumps are but softer as it is not a more uncomfortable sensation than a coiled car (hopefully that makes sense). The bumps are dispersed and absorbed through the air bags (methinks) allowing the car to not sustain any body roll giving the feeling of flexibility on the frame. Moreover, when I see a bump while on the air suspension, I can drive over it (the bump) and not have to brace myself. I feel and hear it but in coil I feel it more, especially if you are going to hit that bump with more velocity.

One thing I do like in the air is the clearance. I can really drive the car on/off driveways on inclined/declined shopping strips, allows me to wash my tires to get rocks out; and my favorite part is being able to set the suspension in low setting. This changes the vehicular dynamics. What was once a graceful ride had turned into a sharp cornering, sporty feel which excellently transmits road feel to the steering (that last part may just be me). So you get best of both worlds.

The coil is not made for performance or comfort. It is a balance that Tesla requires from the manufacturer so that a compromising medium is met.

Lastly, if you drive spirited on the highway, let's say driving on a big sweeper (long turn), you feel the body of the car roll towards the outside and momentum pulls you to the outside of the turn. On the air suspension set to low, that feel is mitigated due to lesser suspension travel. Now imagine when you are still on that same turn in coil going 60 on a 45 (easily and safely done on a newer vehicle) and hit that same dip, the suspension destabilizes and you get that scary feeling that your vehicle feels like it jumps (extending the suspension) while giving the sensation that the tires just barely lift off (scary feeling). If the suspension is set at low on air, the body will roll less on that turn inspiring tremendous amount of confidence to take the turn even faster and when you hit the dip your car will go into it with tires planted and not feel the scare but a nice rush while being in control at all times. This is the difference between grinning and wishing you can do that again and regretting you got white seats while wishing you got a new fresh pair of undies in your glove box. Never in that moment will you feel you are never in control (obviously within reasonable thresholds) with air in low setting or upgraded stiffer coil suspension which is not comfortable.

I've driven my share of performance cars and am an enthusiast (used to own a 515hp 500lb torque spewing 8.0 liter 488(?)cu.ft V10 with 275 width tires in front (bmw m3 rear tire size back then) and 375's in the back American muscle in the Viper while averaging 12mpg among other generic Japanese and Italian toys. I'm also big on driving and riding as I used to go to the canyons on my motorcycles and go to the racetracks alot for trackdays.

I'm not saying I know my stuff but I certainly know may shizzle... Whatever that means... Ok moving along now please look past my futile attempt at sounding cool and hip and apologize for my grammar and misspelled words as my wife is rushing me while I'm typing feverishly on my power depraved iPhone.

Did Dodge ever produce a 515 hp Viper?

I've driven my share of performance cars and am an enthusiast (used to own a 515hp 500lb torque spewing 8.0 liter 488(?)cu.ft V10 with 275 width tires in front (bmw m3 rear tire size back then) and 375's in the back American muscle in the Viper while averaging 12mpg
 
2001 model was what I had. 450hp but add be belanger headers, exhaust and high flow catalytic converters plus I forgot what else was done but filter and a few upgrades. Love the car and regret selling. When I get more space I'll probably get one again.

I just realized I wrote a book a couple threads back. I'm obsessing over this forum and I think I will take a step back. Don't really need to add more nonsense on this otherwise informative forum.

I'll check in once in awhile and post pics when I get my X.

This is good information, thanks. I think whenever I test drove it was always an air suspension but I don't know why I never tried out that feature and paid attention to it. I should do that when I test drive the X sometime next week. Maybe then I'll be sick n tired and hand out the air suspension addition to Tesla and call it a day.. *sigh*
 
Guys on an unrelated note, I noticed the MyTesla page has been updated in a sense that I think things are moving along:

1) The "Pick Up" section no longer offers the option to change delivery locations
2) The financing/leasing section no longer offers the option to change, and says "You have confirmed Tesla Leasing as your financing option. We will send you the lease contract for review soon. If you would like to make any changes, please email [email protected]"
3) The Trade in section NOW says "You have not indicated any Tradein." and no longer lets me choose whether to add/remove one.
4) I can no longer add a second registered person or an alternate contact.

It basically seems that all options to change my preferences have been removed. Has anyone else experienced these or any changes? I'm going to create a new thread too in order to attract other 75D order holders. :)

Do you have this notice under registration?

"Your final paperwork is being processed. If you need to make any changes to your registration information, please contact your Delivery Experience Specialist immediately so we can ensure your paperwork is accurate and prevent any delays to your delivery."

I checked my mytesla page and I believe the same changes show up for me. No I don't have a VIN assigned yet and I am still on coil suspension. I did not state anything about lease vs finance evee. Is this what you are talking about?

Ahh OK. I don't think I see this. It seems the D-day for the Sunshade captain is near!!!

You have a VIN assigned, right? Sorry I don't know how to see Signatures on the mobile version of TMC(in case you have it listed already in your signature). Is their a way without shifting to " desktop version "?

I do not have the "final paperwork being processed" under my registration section maybe because I didn't input my insurance policy number. I added it now but since the policy info wasn't added I'm guessing that's why. I do not have a vin yet. Under the financing/leasing section, it seems to have confirmed our choice and no longer offers the choice to change. @K-MTG you upgraded to a 90D? Do you have a VIN?
