Assuming they do not build to order....

They will build a certain amount of each variation probably based on stats. So many White/Black, less Red/Black, even less Red/White, etc Then they match up what they have built to the queue.

So while we have order dates that have been turned into VINs the actual 'edge' of when this has happened is a saw tooth rather that straight cut off date (so might be 9/12 for LR Blue/Black, 10/12 for White/White, 14/12 for White/Black). We just dont have the volume of people in the TMC forum to be able to accurately assess where that is.

The list I make gives you an idea of where they are up to. For a Blue/Black LR that should be 9/12 so you're probably front of the queue. If you're Blue/White LR that should be 7/12 so you're probably very close to, if not the, front of the queue.

This happened to me. My RWD OD 1/22 was bypassed simply because I didn't accept nor reject the trade in and I thought I could let it lapse as it was valid only until mid April. I asked the question on why my contact and payment details box was unticked and my SA didn't answer me, until a couple of days ago. I rejected the trade in and my account moved on to next step. I would have gotten the allocation in the last batch.

Where did you have to accept/reject the trade in? I swear I only ever got a quote and then a call from my SA to discuss it. (I enquired about a trade-in after ordering)

The offer was way below market and I was never going to accept it anyway. It was in my account even though it was valid up to Apr. We asked the question as the M3 status in my account was 1 step behind my MY order in June. Someone finally called a couple of days ago saying that was because I didn't respond to the trade in.

It's not just as simple as take delivery and sell for profit.

Unless people have cash lying around, and the time it takes to sell privately as well as taking the risk most will just end up cancelling.

You're playing with fire, especially if you need to take out a loan just to take delivery

I agree - I ordered a 3 and then a Y when it opened up which suits me better, so will most likely cancel the 3 and lose the $350. Having just sold a car it’s a bit of a palaver and I don’t want to take the chance of being blacklisted. From the sounds of it, before too long there might be a glut of M3s.

The only alternative was if a legitimate family member was willing to take over my 3 order but sadly have had no interest.

Just think those who are going to take delivery of a 3 and then quickly offload it are few and far between. It's a risk a lot of people aren't in a financial position to take.

If you've got the cash lying around it makes sense, if you need a loan for it or have a Y coming at a similar time and want the Y, you're taking a pretty big gamble. I'd absolutely do it if i had the cash lying around or had someone commit to buy the 3 with cash before delivery.

Not too mention that a lot of these fixed rate loans have early pay out penalties.

Forum people maybe represent 5-10% of the total population of M3 orders so maybe 400 - 800 in total?

Not as bad as you think. YMMV but with Macquarie I think it was $750-$800 if paid out in the first year, and this amount reduces per year. But confirm with the lender first, always.

First timer here, ordered my M3LR 10/06 so a while to wait yet. Squeezed it in under LCT bracket, so fingers crossed for a lease without FBT as promised by the government.

Hi, quick question for you. I ordered on 03/06 but was limited by my employer to a RWD due to the LCT "Limit" ($64,741) as opposed to "Threshold" ($77,565) which are two significantly different values. I was under the impression the FBT promise would not impact the value of the vehicle at time of purchase (hence my rwd choice) but would be great for payments to my the lease and tax time. Did i stuff up and get this wrong?

I could definitely be wrong here but my SA led me to believe that your position in the queue was effected by things like how quickly you completed all the "next steps" in your account, which included securing financing if you had selected that as your method of payment. Which is why I got that all done within a few days of ordering... was anyone else told that?

I don't think this is true, well not for me at least. I placed my order on Jan 20th for my M3LR, and I didn't do any of those steps in the account immediately, as I was still contemplating increasing my mortgage or going with car finance, so I spent I would say the better part of a month talking to my finance broker, applying for car finance and also applying to increase my mortgage... so I wasn't sure what to do so I contacted my SA and he said I can complete the steps, select Finance and I could leave it until I decide once I get assigned a VIN what I was going to do and then let him know (if it was changing from finance to cash etc).. and now, here we are... and I have my VIN and Delivery Date (and it is the same order date range as the rest of the Perth order dates getting their VIN assigned now too, no delay!)
