Will anyone else here be debadging their model 3 when they get it? Either that, or changing the front logo and rear lettering black? They really need to stop putting chrome as the standard badge color on these cars.

I seriously considering black badges all around.....matt black

I'm also going to spray my number plates black .

One thing I just found out as well is that the standard range comes with cloth on the door trim whereas the long range has alcantara like on the current model 3.. talk about cutting costs.

The car in Adelaide was rwd and I thought it was quite nice, I guess it had the cloth but was pretty nice

Yeah I was none the wiser on my test drive in the RWD version.. seemed nice even if it is just cloth

Maybe the point was VIN was assigned 1 month before the start range of the EDD according to the App?

It is a fair bit longer of a shipping time though, and I think the ship that a lot of the UK ones are on (Titus) left Shanghai a couple of days ago which may explain why the VINs have been sent out now

Hopefully if there is congestion in Brisbane DJ just keeps on swimming down the coast to Melbourne. That makes sense as that last drop would be clear and BA would be heading back up

I suspect that the physics of floating bodies and the logistics of RoRo ships would mitigate against this.

In this regard (maybe others!) Tesla makes things difficult for itself. VINs (particular vehicles) are assigned to buyers before the vessel has landed. This means that specific vehicles must go to specific ports.

Now work with me here... These ships are not like shopping centre car parks. The vehicles are packed in nose to tail, door to door. And there are multiple levels (decks). You can't unload from the bottom of the ship without unloading the top, or she'll tip over. You can't unload from the front without first unloading the back (because the cars are gridlocked).

So... when you pack the cars in, you have to decide which cars are going to each port. Cars for the LAST drop off port go in first: to the lowest deck, and to the back of the deck. Cars for the first port will be on the top deck near the door. When you allocate VINs to buyers, you lose the flexibility of changing the order of the ports, because you have to offload specific cars at each port. To change the order of ports, you'd need to be prepared to offload (and then reload) all the cars that need to be moved in order to (i) give access to the cars you need and (ii) maintain balance so the whole thing doesn't turn turtle.

Like most things in modern life, it's complicated!

I will, provided they can be removed easily with no ugly markings. Dont want Tesla or dual motor badge on there!

The reason for this is that they are avoiding the Suez Canal for obvious reasons and having to go right around Africa. Not an issue for us

And I think they have diverted the ships around the cape for security reasons and not go thru the Suez Canal like they normally do. Either way, the time frame will be longer for that journey than ships to AU
