Average Wh/mi since owning?

Car has been with me exactly 1 year today. Just under 14,400 miles and average of 210wh/mi since owning, 2023 M3 SR+

Probably would have been higher but the car didn't really move between october and start of december for around 6 weeks due to my being ill, so only went to the shop and back, no long drives.

Yes, I sit in a lot of traffic.
 
Model Y Long range exactly two years old. 16,000 miles.

Energy use reported by the car: 272wh/mi

Energy put in reported by the car (charge session stats): 328wh/mi

Energy put in reported by the wall box (charge session stats) (i.e. how much I’ve actually paid for): 348wh/mi

Taking the last figure, the Model Y has cost me 7.58 pence per mile on a mixture of home, supercharger, and elsewhere (granny and other) charging. In comparison my previous car (Toyota Prius) averaged 12.35 pence per mile over 12 years of ownership.
 
@anarchi So your car has an efficiency of 272wh/mi ÷ 328wh/mi = 17.1% (or 272wh/mi ÷ 348wh/mi = 21.8%)
Were as, my car is 241wh/mi ÷ 295.8wh/mi = 18.4%. So its reasonable to assume that the car consumes ~20% more than its recording due to charging losses, when stationary, etc.
It would be interesting to know how other BEV compare...

Where we do differ is my car is running around 2.2 pence/mile using Octopus IGO @ 7.5p/kwh
 
237 Wh/mi for 18,870 miles in 1 year and 8 days of ownership. I leave Sentry mode on (except at home). I generally don't speed beyond 10 mph over the limit and avoid jack rabbit starts unless I must for safety reasons. I occassionally precondition the climate before leaving, but < 10% of the time. Most of the driving is suburban with occasional highways and two or three long road trips per year.

I think the most important measure of efficiency is when you take the total of kwh's supplied to the car ÷ by the number of miles travelled.

In my case, with a SR+, TeslaFi says I have added 7,189 kwh to the battery whereas Scan my Tesla says 7,238 kWh added to the battery. I will take an average of 7,200 kWh added to the battery. The majority of the kwh's added where done using a 7 kWh charger. TeslaFi says that it has an efficiency of 93.93 %, meaning I have supplied 7,200kWh ÷ 0.939 = 7,667 kWh's of energy.

The car has done 24,383 miles giving an average on 314.47 Wh/mi or 3.18 miles/kWh.

Using the figure of 7,667 kWh's x 0.075 kWh gives the total electricity running cost of £575 to drive 24,383 or 2.35 pence/mile

I would like to see this calculation made for other Tesla's and also other makes of BEV cars...

Data from SmT below, shows 5,913 kWh used and this ÷ 24,383 = 242 kWh/mi whereas my car is showing 241 kWh/mi

Using the total supplied energy of 3.18 miles/kWh and the fact that petrol has 43.96 kwh/UK gallon, the true MPG (with losses) can be found to be ~140 MPGe.

Well, my MYLR has sentry mode always on, except at home, so sadly your metric would affect people like me negatively due to the high consumption when parked. While I agree it's part of the total cost of ownership, it's still a choice, and that shouldn't could towards drivetrain efficiency.


With the regular metric of energy consumption when in Drive, I get
347 Wh/mi over 12,000 miles (or 2.9 mi / kWh)
I mainly do a combination of short city trips + long motorway travels hence the higher average.

If I use your calculation method of total energy supplied by chargers, I'm more around 444 kW/mi. (2.25 mi / kWh)

But my actual average cost for those (including all SC, public charging & home) is around 12p/kWh (thanks Intelligent Octopus). That would equate to 5.7p / mile
 
My MYLR with 20 inch wheels was 2 years old on 1st March.

I never noted the figures on the 1st March but as at today I’m on 28,158 miles at 248wh/m.

Sentry always on except when at home.

The charge stats in the app show that I charged 4083kwh in 2022, 4217kwh in 2023 and 767kwh in January and February 2024, so a total of 9,067kwh over the two years. I can’t retrieve the same data from my charger as it was changed under warranty during this time and the figures were reset. I have used superchargers only a handful of times when on holidays. Otherwise all my charging is done at home on IO.

The trip computer shows my 28,158 miles has used 6973kwh.

Either way, I’m pleased with my cost per mile.
