Hilarious. Take the car, pay for it later? Think they'll go for that?

I'm not being funny or joking. Call them and ask. The guy on the phone said I have some time to secure the loan after delivery. This is what they've already done today (can anyone chime in if you took the car but didn't app for a loan?). He even said it'll be the same thing if I show up next week at the delivery center on 9/30. I'm not sure what's going on. I don't have a VIN and still have the EDIT button, but I'm scheduled to pickup on 9/30 or do home delivery today. Both options don't have to be approved for a loan and I'm not paying cash either. I have Tesla finance checked on my account.

My first Model 3, had someone in Vegas name Charmonique that sent me all the details and unlocked my account to the loan app 12 days before pick up. Then Tesla's Credit Team reached out to give me rates and down payment amount. I bought a check for the down pay and left with my car. Now, it seems like they are rushing and going to delivery my car and then do the app later.

Actually it’s not that uncommon. I have had friends take cars home that the dealer told them to “try for the weekend to see if you love it” not demo cars, brand new inventory off the lot.

If they decide to keep it they just do the paperwork sometime over the following few days.

Well guys and girls, I took delivery today of the most beautiful car I’ve ever seen, and that’s not hyperbole. I still can’t find one thing wrong with it. (Well, only thing so far is it doesn’t recognize my WiFi yet). The car is flawless and gorgeous.

Only prob with delivery was the delivery advisor gave me the wrong address. She had me go to the service center for delivery at 9 am. I was there and it was closed and no one there. I eventually got someone on the phone and they told me my delivery was at the store in Salt Lake City not the service center. I raced over and there were a sea of tesla’s. I felt rushed since I was then 40 min late and they were so busy. However they made me feel comfortable to take as much time as needed. I was in and out (with a trade-in) in less than 30 min. They told me I have 3 days to search the car for anything they need to fix.
I love it and the 2 1/2+ yr wait was completely worth it. Thanks everyone for making the wait bearable.
My delivery appointment is Monday and it also listed the service center address.

Sounds like maybe I should stop by the store on State street first.

Greetings All. You'll remember me because of my newly-assigned VIN of XXX,XXX.

And Darell isn't my real name.

But that's not what's important here....

In theory I am taking delivery tomorrow morning at 11:30 am. Somebody finally realized that I've not been sent the fancy email to tell me what I should bring (basically, a list of things to worry about). The email just arrived my my DA's assistant (not that my DA is MIA) And there's a new thing to worry about, as my email is written thusly:

Please provide proof of insurance for the Model 3 with an effective date no later than your delivery date as soon as possible. Your delivery will not take place without us receiving proof of insurance prior to delivery.

For those who have recently taken delivery... did you have to actually show that the car that you haven't yet purchased is insured BEFORE purchase? Or simply that you have auto insurance (on your current cars?) Originally the page asked for me to supply the insurance for my current cars. Now it is telling me, "here's your VIN, make sure you can prove that it is insured, or we won't deliver your car."

Uh... help?
Are you financing? The lender would require the insurance. I thought the requirement was proof of insurance, like the declaration page for your policy, but not necessarily insurance for the Model 3.

Took delivery today! Interesting experience. Told them my name and they had 4 lines for my wife and I to sign each. Never asked for IDs or insurance. Maybe I look trustworthy? Car was ready and waiting outside. Showed me the basics and that was it. From the time we walked through the door to the time I was driving away was 21 minutes...no joke. They aren’t messing around. Delivery specialist said the 9/30 push is real and it’s on.

Had the kids in the car, so haven’t stretched it’s legs yet. But still, all I can say about the car is...wow.

Oh and VIN 86XXX had a 9/18 build date.

Your brother should get on the phone with someone in the central office and make sure (a) a delivery location is assigned, (b) the system is set up to assign a delivery advisor / scheduling advisor / or some such.

Your brother's order has most likely gotten lost due to bugs in Tesla's crappy computer system. Some entry is missing which is causing his order to not be processed. We've now seen enough examples of this that I'm sure of it.

Anyone who configured in late June or very early July who hasn't been put on the scheduling date merry-go-round (you haven't even been assigned a date which is cancelled) yet has had something go wrong in the computer system.

Anyone in your brother's position needs to have someone check and verify that there is a delivery location and delivery advisor assigned, because probably one of these has gone missing.
Huh, I configured back in April, but did switch configurations a couple of times, once in June to AWD and again in July to White interior. I’ve called a couple of times, but have been told everything looks good on their end, but it is frustrating to see people getting VINs left and right and me stuck in limbo.

All cars I've purchased was like it. Drive off with current insurance and buy later. I just got off the phone with Tesla and they told me to take the car and apply loan later. I said NO, I will wait to apply and get approved before I sign and drive. Never took a car before I had a loan before.

It all depends on whate state you live in. In MA they need something called a “wet stamp” which has to be delivered from the insurance company. Without it, the won’t deliver the car. I got a 5:15 PM call on a Friday for a Saturday delivery telling me about this problem. So I needed to have the car insured before they would deliver it.

The funny part of the story - though not funny at the time - is that we rescheduled for Monday. I then got a call Sunday evening from someone at Dedham telling me that the car wasn’t actually there but was in NJ instead.

The good news is that I picked up the car the following Friday. The delivery was smooth. Wow - is this car worth waiting for! Only trouble is that it is my wife’s car. I have an X that I loved but now I am trying to figure how to swap cars with my wife. Not gonna happen from what I can tell. She loves it.

I thought the store on State Street was both that and the Service Center. Do we have a separate vehicle service center? Also, what config @tony b ? Congrats
Yes we do have a separate location now.

The Tesla Store is located at

The only viable "win-win cooperation approach" involves a lot of chewing people out for not doing their jobs and breaking your contract, FYI.

Then, once they're cowed and apologetic, you act *very reasonable and generous*. Anything reasonable will satisfy you...

I was supposed to have delivery tomorrow at 10am. DA emailed me Friday after weeks of silence that a VIN would be assigned 2 days before delivery. Last night, no VIN still. This is nuts! What a mess of a system. I have been in contact with my delivery center and they told me yesterday I DON'T HAVE A CAR. That one is not assigned - with less than 48 hours to scheduled delivery. The center rep also told me for some lucky folks like me I get a car assigned IF one that happens to be on the delivery truck matches my configuration. She then offered me a RWD that they had sitting on the lot. I ordered a AWD and already have a cashier's check in my hands. WTF! Then late last night I got the cut and paste response text message and email from a new Delivery Advisor that says: "I have an update on your vehicle and I'm really sorry to inform you that there is a delay in transportation with your Model 3. It will not be ready when we originally expected for your delivery appointment. Unfortunately, we have to remove you from your current scheduled delivery date and will reach out to you in the next few weeks, closer to the date the vehicle will be ready, to reschedule your delivery appointment. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience." This is a lie. There is no delay in transportation because my car was never produced for my order. This was verified by delivery center. It's a total crap shoot. My name and "Model 3" in the message were italic...pretty sure a auto generated bs response message. I was such a huge Tesla fan but this delivery process has left a sour taste. Leading customers on with poor communication, and waiting until the very last minute to cancel is just unacceptable. This is not the customer service experience I was expecting from Tesla or the kind of treatment one would expect from a luxury car company. Especially when paying $60,000+ of hard earned cash. It feels very wrong.

So, I wonder if I'm in some sort of new process. I have never spoke to a Delivery Advisor or anyone from the delivery center, other than the one time I stopped in.

My scheduling advisor who sent me the email about getting the car has helped me through everything. While she did have to delay the delivery, she proactively reached out to confirm my financing and ensure my trade in got a quote. I hadn't inquired about either of these topics before she contacted me on them, figuring I would need to ask someone else.

It would make a lot of sense if Tesla decided to centralize this system and had the delivery centers then just worry about deliveries.

Delivery now set for next week Saturday, and I think (hope?) it'll hold!

It's only 5-7 days before your supposed delivery. Call Mt. Kisco and explain that you haven't heard a word from "Spencer" ever. Ask whether you are really getting a car and when you should show up. If they try to fob you off on Spencer, refuse and ask to speak to Spencer's boss about getting a new delivery specialist who actually exists and answers phone calls.
OMG, I was told Spencer no longer works for Tesla. He was supposedly assigned to my order but never contacted me and no one could find him in the system.
