Big hole in rear engine cover and oil leaking

Help, i drove over a metal pipe and punctured a large hole in rear of car and oil is pouring out! Is this really bad? Did I crack the rear engine? Or just the plastic rear cover?

Can't tell anything from that photo but if it really is oil, something could have punctured the oil filter as that's the most vulnerable part on the motors.

Nobody can tell you anything definitive at all based on that picture and description.

I would schedule a service appointment. It could be serious, it could be more minor. But Tesla would be who I would go to for diagnosis and repair...

I think it's safe to say oil running out of a car is never a good thing.

However:

Oil bubbling out of the ground when you're shooting at some food, Texas crude, black gold, Texas T, is a good thing.

It’s definitely not good. I would schedule service and refrain from driving it a lot more.

better pictures with a better idea of location would help. In any case, as others suggested, stop driving it, make a service appt, and it probably needs to be towed to the SC

And if the damage was caused by debris/road hazard, Tesla most likely won’t cover it under warranty.

Though your insurance should cover it; I’d start with a call to them

Battery coolant is blue, and if a cell was actually pierced, I’d think the car would go into an auto-shutdown (I’d hope so).

Plus OP said it was to the rear, whereas the battery pack is more towards the center under the passenger compartment. But it’s still a guess… we’re waiting for OP to provide better pictures and location

The drive unit has oil and an oil filter. Nowhere near as much as an ICE but it's there.

drive unit is aluminum and possibly cracked since you hit something, draining the oil out of the drive unit case. worse case scenario need new drive unit.
