Crossposting from the 2017 Investor Roundtable: General Discussion thread [Post #21485], since I think it's relevant to this thread:
Surprised this hasn't been mentioned... contrast this article:
2017 Chevy Bolt EV electric car wins North American Car of the Year award
...with this article:
GM extends shutdown at Chevy Bolt plant as inventories swell
If there is inventory... that means people aren't buying it. (the problem is not insufficient packs from LG)
This is the exact opposite of the problem Tesla has. There is a long Tesla waiting list, no inventory (more or less), and customers wait in line for their cars.
Meanwhile Chevy has little-to-no buyers, dealership lots are stuffed to capacity, and they have had to stop factory production. Not a go-slow... it's stopped. The one thing Chevy can do to boost demand is to sell it all over the country, which they are not doing yet. But it's a pretty bad sign for a car that owns the sub-$60K, 200+ mile range BEV segment. And remember, this is the current Car Of The Year as decided by the press (and probably fat kickbacks from the manufacturer).
