I think this forum does a good job of making people anxious and compare each other’s situation etc
For some this is an emotional purchase cos it’s their first car
For me, I already sold my leased car last month cos the lease expired and tesla promised earlier delivery. Now I have to rely on rentals/uber which is painful
Totally agree. It's less about getting fussed about the wait, it's more about expectations management. I'm without car too but due to COVID restrictions in my part of North America, it was less of an issue as I wasn't really going anywhere and could use my wife's car. Let's see how our one car situation works with restrictions easing :)

Either way, it is what it is.

Hey guys, longtime lurker here.

Ordered 5/12 (MYLR, MSM/Black, 5 seat, Tow, 19"). EDD started at 5-11 weeks, then 3-13 weeks, 6/16-6/30, 7/19-8/8, September a few days ago, then 7/18-8/7 yesterday. Last night as we were sitting down to dinner I got a text to schedule delivery! So I'm picking it up in Westmont IL on Tuesday. VIN 206xxx.

I called the store and they said the car is currently in Boise (sort of a circuitous route to Chicago?) with 3 miles on it, mfg date of 6/6.

Seems like this is happening - a bit faster than planned. I have a JuiceBox, but don't have the garage wired yet LOL!
Just an update on delivery of this car - I consider myself one of the lucky ones. In addition to getting the car earlier than expected, delivery went very smoothly. My wife and I had lunch at a restaurant down the street prior to delivery, and it was exciting to pull up the Tesla app on my phone and see "my" car getting charged!

I went through the checklist and everything was pretty much perfect. Only a few minor flaws to report:
  • Hood is very slightly shifted to the driver side, like maybe a millimeter. All other panel gaps and lights are flush and flawless
  • Detailer forgot to take the plastic film off the "Model Y" on passenger door sill
  • There are two small road rash nicks in the front bumper - maybe 1/16" in diameter. I'm guessing it was on the front of the transporter truck and took some hits on the drive out here. Not happy about it, but I figure that even with PPF it's not going to be pristine for long, so I let it slide, and maybe my PPF installer can buff it out.
I will say that touchless delivery felt a bit...cold. Like something was missing. This is a major transaction and it felt oddly inhuman. There was a dude sitting at a computer inside and I gave him the signed paperwork (title application, odometer, POA, bill of sale, tax certificate, etc) and asked for a copy of it - he said I didn't need that because "it would be in my online account", which of course it wasn't and isn't, but he did make copies for me. But he otherwise seemed a bit overly chill. Guess that's the Tesla vibe.

Other than that, driving home was awesome. I got out of Autopilot jail within maybe 10 miles, it works better than expected so far. Just one instance of it braking a bit late and a bit hard for my comfort for stopped traffic. But it adapts speed very naturally when cars change to your lane in front of you or cut you off, unlike my other car with radar adaptive cruise control, which panic brakes when it finally sees the car that moved in front of it. No rattles, ride is plenty smooth (I'm coming from a Jeep Grand Cherokee, so everything feels smoother LOL).

Got the home charger installed yesterday and getting PPF for the bumper installed Monday.

I know there are some head shaking stories about Tesla customer "service" on this forum, and I feel bad for people who experience that, but I wanted to pass along one that they mostly got right.

Don't follow what I did. This was a tough choice. I ended up with the TANDRIVE 2PCS Silicone Key Card Holder Case in blue and black. I'm sure you can find something nicer looking and more elegant.
These arrived today and they are really nice. They are silicone, not leather or fake leather but the design is simple and clean with the Tesla logo on one side and a clear window on the other. They are very sturdy. Your key card will not bend when it's in these. TANDRIVE also included 8 glow in the dark stickers for marking the buttons to open the doors.

Hey guys, honestly do you guys think going on such an emotional rollercoaster is worth it for a car? Understanding how things work with these deliveries, I'm just gonna hang back till they deliver it. I load the EDD page and refresh this for fun, but not taking it too seriously. There are much more important things in life to "spend" yourself on.

Also, while I absolutely don't think this is the way they should do business, at the end of the day you can vote with your dollars. I myself would like to vote against these business practices, but I like the cars so much that in the end it trumps the buffoonery you need to put up pre-deliv. But I understand the way it works and don't stress. EDD July 23-Aug 12? Knowing what the demand is, I'll expect it by September, hoping they'll surprise me. If it doesn't come, maybe I'll make a phone call. Or maybe I'll pick up an inventory car. I ordered when it was only $500 cheaper than it is now, so if I really want it, $500 for an inventory car ain't a huge deal (the only problem is that I really want the White exterior and those don't show up in my config -- tho Blue/MSM/Red do show up quite often!). Or maybe I'll cancel the order. Who knows. But it's not a big deal. Don't stress yourself out people! It's just a car[/material thing -- not your father|mother|daughter].
BINGO! I think we are in the same boat, ordered around the same time late May. I'd love to get my MY sooner rather than later, but I understand that with it being end of quarter, it's going to be nuts. Also, this is like the hottest car in the market right now! They have pretty much sold out capabilities for Q3 and with demand as big as it is, they have taken the "take it or leave it approach" It sucks and eventually that will bite them in the ass but for now, everybody wants what they are selling.
Either way, patience is key. Your car will arrive someday.

Here's the issue though: there was (still is) and extreme amount of ambiguity during Q2. With the containment hold, switch to Vision, parts issues, etc. dates for pretty much everyone were flying all over the place. To put it in perspective, I once had an EDD of mid-May. It is now 6 weeks later and I still don't have a car. I can honestly say my EDD has changed at least 25 times since I ordered. For some, it's not a big deal and you get it when you get it. For others, there is a lot to plan around a new car. What do you do with your existing car? What about financing? Should I do it now and risk having to re-apply which can affect credit? Or should I wait? My old car's registration was due on May 1 so I had to make the call then to either sell my car, or pay the registration. At that time my EDD was mid to late May so I sold it. Had I known it was going to be at least another 6 weeks, I probably wouldn't have done that. Ultimately it hasn't affected me that much because we have another car in the household. But not everyone has that luxury.

I guess what I'm saying is let's see how patient you are when it's been another 4, 6, even 8 weeks from now and you still haven't received your car. :)

Odd request: someone posted a couple of pics of their White Y with the 19s w/ wheelcaps off, and I thought it looked fantastic (and I'm a wheel guy!). Could have been the angle of the pics, the angle of the sun, whatever the case I thought it looked incredible. Problem: I want to show those pics to my wife, but.. there are 751 pages in this thread. Does anyone remember who's car that was so I can click on their name and find the post?

Take that back!!! LOL I do have some reason to get mine soon. My 2016 Tacoma is worth more now than it was 3 months ago. 3 weeks ago, Carmax offered me $32,500 for it and now it's down to $31,500. I'd unload it now, but I'd be stuck walking. A rental car would cost me upwards of $2000/month so not an option. So for now, I play the waiting game like everyone else and mutter under my breath when someone who ordered 6/5 got their VIN on 6/6 and picked up on 6/8. Yeah I could get mad, but I choose patience. for now.

Relatively new here and completely understand the impatience. I would LOVE to have my car right now and can’t seem to stop myself from checking and refreshing the website literally 30 times a day. I totally agree reading this forum, and refreshing my order page, is adding to my car anxiety but I can’t seem to help myself. Putting into perspective the crazy changing EDD dates people report (and I’m sure I will soon experience for myself), it does seem like 90%+ of people are getting their cars within their original estimated time window. April seems to be the big exception. So I’ll keep refreshing - after all, I can’t help myself 😄 - and try to be patient.

Ok so same story as before... My car would not arrive before the end of the quarter so essentially they gave it to someone else thats closer to it so they can get the Q2 delivery number in... now im on a "priority list" to get matched and delivered early in July... I am f*cking P*SSED!
That is so messed up. That’s what happens when a company prioritizes hitting numbers. Unfortunately they can get away with this since there’s no competition. I am going through a similar situation where I was supposed to take delivery of mine last weekend but the roof glass came damaged from transit and the glass is a major back-order so they won’t provide any sort of timeframe. They haven’t offered any help for me- no loaner, no discounts, no upgrades. They just said either 1) I wait for that to come in stock or 2) hope that someone doesn’t pick up their matching build to my MY and I’ll be “next in line” for that.

Performance models seem to be more prevalent than non-P in regards to existing inventory. Since you just ordered, you don't have to worry about price increases (yet!) so I would be on the lookout for those. Otherwise, yeah, P's seem to get to people quicker in general.

My "touchless" delivery was a bit more hands on. The delivery specialist was in his early 20's and actually came out to check on how my inspection was proceeding. I pointed out some minor polishing / waxing residue, and he went inside to get some materials and cleaned it up. He had actually driven the car from the storage lot (actually a warehouse) in Tysons Corner where it was prepped. He also updated some registration details as Maryland is different from Virginia where he normally works. Then he showed me some interior tips, and noted that a Tesla tire pump in included (required in Maryland if no spare is included with the car.). Not the same as my delivery experience with other cars (part of the dealer / salesperson compensation is based on delivery performance,) but better than others have experienced.
