Destination Charging site questions

Because we are a new public destination charging site and because we are in a very remote area at Winjes Farm, North Eastern CA, I am wondering what kind of range the various models (3, x, s) depend on to travel. For example, we are 204 miles from Reno, NV, or 187 miles from Redding, CA, or 145 miles from Klamath Falls, OR. Much to know that only time will reveal I suppose. Any input will be helpful. Thank you

Congratulations on installing Tesla Wall Chargers as Destination Chargers! We do “road trips” in our 2015 P85D a couple of times a year and plan them around Tesla Destination Chargers and Superchargers.

Recommendations:
  • Clear mark the Tesla charger parking spaces For Tesla Charging ONLY
  • Set the Wall Chargers to the highest charge rate
  • Place big orange traffic cones with Tesla Charging Only printed on them in these parking spaces
  • Create your own record on PlugShare including any charging restrictions (typically guests only), voltage and amperage ((like 40A 208V = 8.3kW), description where the chargers are located, signs (“Parking spaces For Tesla Charging ONLY”, “Hang charging cable off ground when charging complete”, “Please vacate these spaces when your charging is complete”, “xxA / yyyV” (so users know how much power to expect) and “contact front desk”), remind guests to abide by these rules, get guests room # and license plate # so you can contact them if they’re still in a Tesla charging space after their charging is complete, PICTURES showing you’re completed Tesla chargers AND where they are on your property, and (most important to generate business) attractions & activities on your property and in the surrounding area.
These should eliminate a lot of questions for your staff and prevent guest conflicts (although most Tesla owners are extremely courteous and grateful).

Again, THANKS for adding these Tesla Wall Chargers to your establishment. We all thank you... and will come visit if we’re in the area!

Thank you so much for your input. That all makes great sense. When our Tesla guests come around you will see that you are quite welcome and spoiled. Our farm is located in a hidden place called Surprise Valley. There are great pictures of the accommodation and the area on our sites, Winje's Farm and The Cottage At Winjes Farm - Bed & Breakfast near Lake City . The west still lives here, with cattle drives right down the road in front of The Cottage At Winjes Farm. Winjes Farm also is a conservation/wetland area with a walking/birding trail along Miller Creek and the edge of the wetland restoration area, down to the edge of Upper Lake.

Hmm, around the Lake City area is in the middle of the huge hole between Superchargers in the U.S., as seen here:
www.supercharger.info, so the destination charging around that area is very nice.

As to the question you actually had about travel distances, there are a couple of ways to think about that. For a once way distance, where someone knows they are going to get to a Supercharger, so they are not hesitant to deplete most of the way, about 200 miles would be common. But for round trip situations like this, where people will be driving in and then using slower charging to get back out, it may be a little less, like 150 miles.

That kind of depends on how long people will be there to charge. If it's normally a 1-2 hour type of place, people may not want to have to wait for an extra few hours of charging to get back, so they might distance limit some. But if it's normally a long-ish 5-6 hour day of activities, then they will be able to charge all the way up anyway, so the full 200 mile trip each way would probably apply again.

Thank you for the information. Kind of how we thought it might be, and thus the reason we figured it was at least a good idea to offer an oasis in the desert. When we travel, and I do get my South African wife out into her new country a bunch, we like to hit all the back country possible. We figured we wanted to get that same offer available for Tesla travelers. And yes, we are at the edge of an area devoid of chargers, now accessible to Tesla drivers.

Awesome addition and thanks to adding to the North State. We will have to come visit you! Looks like you are already listed on Tesla's map, hopefully Tesla installs a Supercharger in Susanville and/or Redding soon, that would open a lot of opportunities to the North Eastern part of the State.

We will look forward to a visit. Much to see here in "The old west". Wild horses, Antelope, Elk, Crane, coyotes, bears, etc. . At The Cottage at Winjes Farm, the wildlife area on our farm brings the wild neighbors right past the door as they use the creek to get from the Warner Mountains behind us to our meadow on the edge of Upper Lake. Foxes steal socks left out on the deck, the Bob Cat sneaks by checking for mice, deer graze through the cottage parking lot, the raccoon checks all possible sources of food. The trail camera is kept busy.
