TLDR: You can now DiY install and activate HomeLink garage door opener function using the HomeLink Retrofit function via in-car Service Mode.
2022 LR AWD Model 3
VIN F318XXX Built July 2022
SW Ver: 2022.40.4.1
Module: HomeLink 5 (Option 2); Part Number: 1114984-00-B
1. Installed HL module part number 1114984-00-B. This was the module from my December 2018 Model 3 (see picture module built 01 Nov 2018) - and it still worked.
2. Put car in Service Mode: Car menu; Software: Touch/hold the Model 3 until it flashes; Enter "service".
3. Select: Actions >> HomeLink Retrofit >> Gateway Unlock (put the card key on sensor + upward turn stalk + brake). Start. Ok.
Important: Reboot the car computer and/or Power Down cycle the car.
Bam! HomeLink garage opener activated DiY.
Thanks to @rrlevy for the tip.
No more haggling with Tesla Service to reactivate/reuse/recycle our HL modules.
