Enhanced Summon coming (Elon tweet 6 Apr, 2019)

@Chewy3 you're not leading America into a pit. America's
getting sucked into a pit of discord and self-flagellation by
a lot of powerful actors. Some do it for power, self-interest,
others for their national strategic reasons. And I'm horrified
to see good people get conned into hating and nitpicking.

In context, Tesla doesn't need worship, it needs
our support and respect, as do our institutions.
Because it's of strategic importance to our survival.

I have my own quarrels with how Tesla has managed
its Model 3 pricing and rollout, but there's no way I'd
call that "lying". I'm not impressed with how Boeing
rolled out the anti-stall on the 737X, it was a mistake,
and not a diabolical plot. Tearing Boeing and Tesla
down only weakens us. And we're at the point where
it matters.

ALL of the features on a software project like Tesla's
are subject to being pulled upon finding bugs, being
re-introduced into alpha then beta phases, and pulled
again. That's the way software is. And it's the right way.
Nobody's "lying".
Clearly I shouldn't have posted the "lying" comment in a thread about software. I was referring to pricing and Early Access Program, not the software feature release timeline.

It's not a lie if you were really planning to release something but then have to change that release at the last minute. Now, I guess Tesla could have changed the wording on the website when the timeline for Enhanced Summon slipped but since Tesla is so close to releasing Enhanced Summon, they probably figured there was no point in updating the website, only to update it again, when it is released again. Such quick changes to the website would only confused owners.

I think most impartial observers would call it a lie if a vendor claims something is available now when it is not and continues saying that for three months.

I don’t think it would confuse anybody if they changed the feature description to “Delayed, but Coming Soon”, or just “Coming Soon”.

In my opinion, many of us tend to give Tesla a pass because we like them and we want to support them. If it were another vendor with whom we had no emotional attachment, we wouldn’t go so easy with this Summon claim or a few other loose statements Tesla/Musk have made.

But he was right about the FSD claim.

When they decided to LOWER the price of FSD there was some ire raised amongst those of us who got it when new to avoid the possibility if it going UP in price. In response to everyone demanding refunds, Tesla did say that those who had gotten FSD originally but not recently would not get a refund, but would get an invite to EAP.

It's very hard to argue they are still going to get around to it. Instead, it can be seen as a lie to stop all the commotion.

In response to everyone demanding refunds, especially those who JUST paid the higher price, Tesla did say that those who had gotten FSD originally but not recently would not get a refund, but would get an invite to EAP.

and more tellingly, they pulled down the blog post about it. So shady they're going to collaborate on the next Eminem album.

Ok, you guys more unhappy, I'm happier. One thing
about fanboyism. Apple is an important American
company, a national asset in many ways. But what
a contrast with Tesla! Apple makes older phones not
work OK, they suddenly pull platforms out from users,
there's a whole approach to force perfectly good macs
and iPhones to the trash. And it's not because they're not
"modern" enough. Microsoft has made an effort to support
older hardware and OSs. Android phones from 5 years
ago work fine. But I can't even get the Tesla App for my
backup iPhones to install. As a developer I'm pushed
to use Apple's latest XCode tools, and those make it very
hard to compile for anything but the latest iOS/macOS.

Maybe in 10 years they'll be as manipulative, but for now
I don't see Tesla lies, I see mistakes. Who's on what Early
Access Program anyway? Is that actually under way yet?

I don't understand what you are saying.

I don't know what the proper thread to ask this is.
But who do you think lied to you, about what?

You mean that schedules slip, and features get
redefined? If you work in any high tech field, you
know that nobody can can accurately predict
either, it's just how it is.

If you use the word "lied" you must mean ill will,
deliberate deceit. Where do you see that w/ Tesla?

This is a Tesla-oriented forum. I'm amazed at the
negatives. I can't imagine being Musk, with all the
deception and crap the petroleum industry and the
big car companies and the foreign competitors throw
at Tesla, looking here, seeing all this negativity,
and not just giving up.

You make tools? How would you feel if you were
working on a totally new and better tool, and all
you saw was people calling you a con, harping on
your timing, what your improvements cost or what
exact features you're putting in and when?

You know, it would really be a dumb disaster if
after all this, America drove Tesla into the ground.
Sheesh, he built a damned CAR company from
scratch and even delivered on that $35k EV. And
where would that leave us? And the US tech lead?

Maybe this country loves being led into a pit, and
what its major enemies are cooking up for it.
I hope I'm dead by then and don't have to watch it.

I test drove the MS with pre-nag autopilot (it only nagged when it saw that it needed to, which is was a few times per 40 min commute). I bought my MS solely for that reason, because it made my commute that much better (mentally/enjoyment-wise, it's a night and day change vs. current nag-gate). That feature was stripped from me. So was v8 UI which allowed me to put up both waze and backup camera (this is the safest way to drive). And AP 1.0 using off-ramps.

I'd call all that a lie because it's not what I purchased or test drove.

For me, the way I hold the wheel, current nagging adds risk,
because it's easy to inadvertently knock it out of AS/NOA.
My solution to make my normal hand position sufficient is
90 grams of BBs mounted like this:

Who knew "next week" = more than 2 months later! lol

Ah excellent, we’re bringing the thread back on the rails! I’m not too surprised about the delay. This is a repeat of how no-confirmation NoA went. I’m hoping the publicly released version of Smart Summon is fairly capable. I was not overly impressed with the videos I’ve seen of the previous beta version of it.

I don't understand what you are saying.
He's saying Apple scams us by making our devices obsolete and slow, so then we are forced to buy new computers, iPhones and iPads prematurely. I have no doubt this is true. I've experienced this first hand many times. I'm writing this on a very functional 12 year old PC running Windows 10. It's extremely unlikely any of you are reading this on a 12 year old Mac.

Given how much Apple sucks, but still has a huge fan base, helps support my TSLA bull thesis.

Yes, tech companies make improvements, but my old Apple hardware still works, I just have newer stuff that is lighter and faster. My 2013 Airport that Apple doesn't even make anymore just got security updates this week. I am not sure how much of a badge of honor it is to be running a 12-year-old IBM.

Comcast, however, is no longer going to provide Demand programming to any TiVo units, they claim because of outdated hardware, but even the newest TiVo is getting cut off. THAT'S a giant company screwing the little guy (who has a Lifetime TiVo subscription). "Demand programming is still available via the Xfinity cable box" F-You

Only 10% of Android phones are compatible with the latest operating system. Seems like there is a lot of being screwed to go around...
