Loaner, demo, display car who knows but it’s still a new/untitled car that is discounted off retail and qualifies for new car EV incentives.

Below are a few examples of discounted new cars with just “delivery miles” (50):

How do you know they are discounted? It doesn't show the original price. Just the cash price and the price without EV incentives. Unless I'm missing it.

How do you find these?
When I go to tesla.com it tells me there are ZERO new inventory cars, and I must build one.
But I can click on your links and see the ones that you have found...

Please share your tips for planning a long trip, how do you far do you think you could stretch a MS 90D between charges? What is the best software to use in planning at trip? When using the onboard navigator what is the assumed highway speed?

Thanks for your help

It depends on your comfort level at low charge and if you have other charging options. abetterrouteplanner dot com is an awesome source for planning a trip. Go to the settings and enter in your car, you can even add in a headwind, rain, extra weight, etc. For longer stretches, I've written down points along the way to see if I think I'll make it, or need to slow down. For the onboard system, it seems optimistic to me (in a 3) and adjusts if it finds you falling behind. After a while into the trip it seems to stabilize and be more accurate on arrival %. But it is a little unnerving seeing it say you'll arrive with 40% and not too much later have it saying 28%. Abetterrouteplanner had me at 12% after I had entered in the wind and I arrived at 27%. So had I blindly trusted the car and not charged as much, it could have been bad, but I put in more than the car said was enough for my own comfort (and due to abetterrouteplanner's estimates) and it worked just fine. For those wondering, that was a ~190 mile stretch in 3 LR at 50 degrees (so some light heat being ran), into a 15 mph headwind, going 75 and starting with 99% charge.

To have your voice heard for lemon law, please please please leave the delivery department alone- they have enough on their plate. It's all in the service manager's hand. If they don't help in a timely fashion, just search on Linkedin on who the regional service manager is and ping them.

Thx. how do we find out who our service manager is, or does that only get assigned to us when a problem occurs?

Bonnie,

You are incorrect. Our salesperson offered us a referral code. We used it.
It was likely not their personal referral code. (And if it was, when it comes time to deliver a prize - they won't get it.)

Back around the time of the Model 3 delivery event, a forum member here (not naming) asked me if I could help figure out why he had not gotten an invite. He had a referral code, had reached the required number of referrals - then went to work for Tesla as a sales person. They had not issued an invite because he was an employee. But because the situation escalated, they were able to see that he had earned the invite PRIOR to becoming an employee. And I saw him at the event.

Subsequently, Tesla notified all sales people who had a referral code that they were not eligible for the program.

What's your favorite Tesla model/trim to drive?

What do you think is the best Tesla model/trim in terms of reliability/quality?

How do I convince someone at Tesla to let me upgrade to Ludicrous?

All Teslas are pretty much the same across the board regardless of trim. It's safe to equate different trims to different stickers you'd put on a computer or something like that. At the core, they're all the same. Performance models differ because they're manufactured with a larger motor in the rear.

Regarding reliability/quality, I think the MS conquers the MX. The MX is way more complicated on so many levels (i.e. more things that can potentially need servicing), and is essentially the same vehicle as the MS under the skin. It's also counterintuitive, but the MS has a much larger cargo capacity in real world situations due to the seats folding and the hatchback.

Upgrading to Ludicrous isn't possible unless you had one of those P90D's that had the option to have it. I believe it now comes standard. But if you have a 90D or 100D, it's impossible to convert. Plus it's much more cost effective to just order the car with it in the first place.

DESinUS - thank you for your contributions here. It’s what makes a forum into a community.

I’m about to become an owner of a new X. What are the top 3-5 things I should look for at delivery? The checklists that are out there seem too long and cumbersome to go through, especially if many of the checklist items would be covered under warranty and don’t necessarily “have to” be identified at delivery.

I guess I’m looking for a coles notes version of a “must check” at delivery list.

Any insights on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Those checklists are delivery's worst enemy. They consume SO MUCH time and are mostly unnecessary.

Things to look out for for MX are squeaking falcon wing doors (usually addressed prior to delivery) and trunk latches not connecting smoothly. Also, look at the glass from the inside on the roofline of the of the FW doors. They sometimes (not often) crack from the heat they get from baking in the sun during transport, to being washed with cooler water after being unloaded from transport.

How much is the bonus for selling a car?

Delivery doesn't get bonuses really. It's $5 per car delivered. Sales can rake in the cash if they hit certain numbers of certain cars. Honestly, they don't make much unless they're at the tippity top sales person. It sucks to say, but Tesla really allures prospective employees w/promises of huge payouts, but they constantly change the metrics, making it extremely difficult to hit bonuses.

And requiring sales staff to sell 4 new Tesla's a week is setting them up for failure. Very unrealistic.

@DESinUS

My model s order was confirmed 6/8. Am I going to miss the quarter end, and thus end up waiting forever for my car, or does production still continue for US customers as we go into July? Do they group production? How does that work?

There is always a huge rush to get cars in before EOQ for accounting purposes, but do not take the offer of "direct delivery" to your home. It's just not worth it. They'll still deliver cars that are ordered near EOQ the subsequent quarter though, so you're probably not going to have to wait forever.

Just understand the production cycle from Tesla's perspective. 1 factory for the globe. They have to prioritize international markets due to logistics. They'll still deliver domestic vehicles, just not at a large scale.

Do you, when delivering a car to the owner, explain to them that the car is not an "Autonomous Car" and that it doesn't drive itself in that sense and Autopilot is actually a driving assistance?

(I think many owners and the general public actually has a misinformed idea that Autopilot means the car drives itself, because it seemingly to them does, and they also seem to think Autopilot in aircrafts mean the plane flies itself, which it also technically not true.)

Does Tesla have a policy where they require you to let the owners know at delivery that they need to remain attentive when using Autopilot?Because there are those who come here claiming they don't know, didn't read manual, and somehow didn't read the message in front of them when activating Autosteer. And then there are those who think Autopilot is at fault because it doesn't allow you to be less attentive.

Thanks!

We definitely emphasize that point due to the misleading nature of the name "autopilot". It's just to be used whenever one would use adaptive cruise control in any other car. We let the owner "active" autopilot at delivery, and a disclaimer pops up saying exactly what you mentioned. Be attentive when using it.

Is it a great place to work? Always wondered what it would be like to work for Tesla.
It depends on your feelings towards the mission vs. your feelings towards your bank account. You'll work endless hours with little bonus incentives. The luster of it wears off after a while. They pound into your brain that you're a part of something epic and special, but they don't pay too well in my honest opinion. You'd make more selling Toyotas.
