hi all,

I am waiting long to get X and finally find a good discount inventory 100D but see the new of the new MCU. I want to hear people option/advice on if you rather take an inventory car with good discount or transfer this deposit to the new custom order so you can get the new intel MCU. I am in this situation right now.

May I ask was this a floor model? Reason I ask...we wanted a new inventory S so we didn't have to wait. However, we found out after looking closer at the invoice, the car we were told about was a 17. But were never told this. We were offered no discount on this car. It is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Curious to hear if we should have received a discount on this car?

Does it have any mileage on it?

It does not have any miles on it. One more question for you. When it came time to pick up your car, did your sales person contact you or the delivery company? I am having issues with my sales person. They have not been returning my calls. Im wondering if he had the delivery company call me so he didn't have to call me?

We just picked up a 2018 with MCU1. We love our vehicle. If you were to offer me a few grand back to keep this MCU vs. getting right into a new one with the new MCU, I'd take the discount anyday. Using the browser regularly is a neat option, but doesn't make or break the experience. The navigation works just as well unless you're always playing with the screen to scroll around the area you're in. I certainly wish I had the new MCU, but won't be losing any sleep over it. If you're ok with a slightly used vehicle at a discount and can find one, go for it.

Regarding sales vs. delivery specialists, I think everyone's experience will differ. In the end, they're a team and I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to one over the other for whatever reason you have. For me, my sales associate literally did everything. I actually wish he was there for our delivery as well. Our delivery specialist almost had us cancelling our order because of the lack of communication. Also, don't be bashful about reaching out as much as you want. I avoided any additional contact as I trusted the dates and promises that were given. A week before scheduled delivery at the end of 2017, my DS was MIA after multiple calls/emails and I found out through sales that the vehicle actually never made it to production?!... DS team had even called to request we take a home delivery, so I don't know what they were doing. Stay on top of everyone. It's a great company, but there's no guarantee you're dealing with the best they have at every level, lol.

Thanks everyone's help and advice. I finally took the good discount inventory car today. THE RED TESAL MODEL X. It is super awesome. There is some minor issues but Tesla will fix it. So, i do not worry. (i already get an appointment setup on April, they are super busy in March for end of quarter delivery). here is one of the picture.

Beautiful. Congrats! Picking up mine next Saturday (26k adjustment).

Just want to share my initial MCU experience. I do think mine is old ones but i do not think it is that slow. I will check the MCU tomorrow using the browser. I am glad I took the car not wait 3 months because of the MCU. Love it so much. It is super awesome to drive the X100D.

Congrats!
I too am making the same decision as you did. Next Wednesday, I’ll be picking up our new MXP100D in Florida and driving it back to Colorado! Saving like 30K was worth it to us to get this car. Older MCU or not, the Performance version should make me smile everyday!
Gotta love end of quarter adjustments!

Congrats!!! That color looks wonderful!

Without something to regularly compare the MCU speed with, you won't notice any issues. Enjoy the car! We have no complaints with the MCU1 in our X either.

I would say YES you should be getting a discount because it was an inventory car. Also because I ordered a 17 made around Christmas 20th 2017 and received 15k off it. It is a fully loaded P100D with 6 seat configuration. I also also asked them to remove the 22" wheels for an additional 5.5k savings because I can find aftermarket wheels that are lighter than their 20" wheels and better looking. So when I think of it, I got a $20.5k savings off a 2017 P100D X. When you "upgrade" to the 22" wheels, you don't get to keep the original 20" wheels so you can think of it like you're paying about 2k on top of the $5.5k 20" wheels which is almost an $7.5k upgrade! You can get some HRE wheels (which is what I got), ADV1, or other top shelf brand WHILE keeping spare 20" Teslas if you want to sell on the side or use for road trips or something.

Anyways, back to the original topic. I receive my vehicle next weekend and I am bummed out that it likely wont have the latest MCU because I'm a tech person and not accustomed to having the laggy tech knowing when there is new stuff out there that is better. It will bother me a bit knowing that my maps can refresh faster and the some of the buttons on the screen will have a faster refresh rate, but at the same time I know a monitor and cpu upgrade is not worth my $15k in savings for a show room car that is exactly how I would've spec'd it out. I bought my Tesla for the long term (I drive all my cars into the ground, 5+ years of owning them or 100K+ of miles) and the real reason being for Full Self Driving compatibility in the future. I might be behind in the MCU department but when its able to drive itself then maybe I won't be interacting with the MCU anyways since I expect it to drive itself by reading my calendar :)

Take the discounts, it's not even a hard decision. Maybe people new to Tesla think the new MCU is a bigger deal than it is because they have never used the old one. On a daily basis you don't even touch the screen other than music or climate control. It's a non issue, I wouldn't consider paying more than $500 for it. I feel people that are willing to pay thousands for this minor mostly unnoticeable difference are going to be unhappy with their Tesla ownership experience as their car becomes more out dated every 3 months.

It looks like everyone agrees - if money is no issue buy the new MCU car. If saving a few bucks is important buy the old MCU.

I love my P85D - my favorite 4 wheeled vehicle. The old MCU has not ruined my life or the car.

BTW -I picked it up a month before the P90D was released. I did go crying back to the dealer and demand an upgrade. If you worry about the next upgrade don't buy a Tesla. I am hoping everyone who is pushing off their car for the new MCU gets their new MCU a month before another big upgrade :)

Considering all the issues reported with the 90kW batteries... especially from P90D owners... I'll bet you as happy as I am to have our P85D's vs. an early P90D. This is especially true for me since I've upgraded ours with Ludicrous and significantly lighter weight Arachnids... and it's one of the "unicorn" P85D's with the Plus Suspension = P85DL+ :D
