Is the Bio Defense Mide worth it?

Saw the recent news about the $500 retrofit for Bio Defense Mode available for the newer fascia Model S and X. I've also seen some threads of folks installing their own HEPA filters. For those that have the Mode, do you think it is worth the upgrade? I know it may come down to personal preference but I'm wondering if it's more gimmicky than anything. Thanks.

Worked really well as I drove through the fires around Glacier MT. Also when they burn the fields in Idaho and Wyoming.

When the kids in the backseat let a burp from down under. It does the job pretty quick.

I am very sensitive to smells and exhaust. Love it!

Best feature. No brainer at 500. No skunk smells, no ICE exhaust fumes. Can eat in car without anyone knowing.

The filter by itself is $200+ so I think $500 to have them install it and flash the firmware to give you the special hvac mode is reasonable.

I live in CA wildfire country and have found it to be a solid and worthwhile investment.

As outdoors said, if you live in an area prone to fires then it's fantastic.
The only clean air I got to breathe a few months ago was during my daily commute.

If you or a family member has any of the spring time "Hay Fever" allergies, most certainly so. I do, and the effect is dramatic. I turn it on, and within a few moments, 1) I can breathe and, 2) my eyes stop burning and itching. Better than the anti-histamine the Doctor recommends. It is not hype. Could I live without it---yes; do I want to---no.

I'd like to have it for all the times I have to drive past the what I assume is a chicken farm at Marshal Junction between Kansas City and Columbia, MO on I-70. That can be a really stinky farm.
