Do you think they just singled him out as an example? That's apparently their internal policy towards anybody who shows they really see what's inside of their cars (hint, it's full of magic smoke).

Unlike him, I live 190 miles away from my service center so I cannot just casually come by and bring doughnuts/ask for stuff.
Also nobody promised any 100D uncorking last I heard, we need to manufacture outrage at least on the same scale as the 75D thread did first!

Perhaps they are attempting to protect the secret ingredient in the magic smoke? Heck you're a popular guy, if you put a referral code in your signature line and you'll be the next Bjorn.... shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Apparently Tesla does not view such usage as valid. You are supposed to tell it to your friends ;)

Besides it really does not fit in with narrative, I had so many problems with my car I cannot really recommend people to buy Tesla anyway. And this even before we get into all other atrocities they kep committing.

I would love to hear about it if you want to PM me... have you been singled out or just had standard tesla fit and finish problems that became annoying? I always assumed you were a just a Tesla tinkerer enthusiast... and didn't realize they tried to make life harder for you. I'll be happy to answer any questions about a new Tesla if you need a referral code... I'm just kidding, I hate when people do that on the forum)

Today my air suspension errored out while accelerating onto the highway ("Air Suspension Needs Service Contact Tesla Service"). Just called tech support after service center was useless and the agent insinuated that there are several complaints ("concerns") in the system. He wouldn't confirm whether they are all from 2017.42, but he sure implied that. He said I could drive with no issue and that he hoped software would be pushed to my car to fix the issue.

Sharing in case someone else with .42 has the same problem. Hopefully it's software.

We had the same issue tonight with the air suspension warning. We downloaded 17.42 this morning (Model X90D, 657xx) I will call the tech support in the morning & see what they say. Also, we can no longer use the voice command to search for music. We get a “can not find” message. Wonder if it’s related to the update also.

Well, the gory details are mostly in the open: Tesla Service/Quality control is still as bad as ever I guess
It's a mix of standard fit and finish and nonstandard more serious stuff. The new info about blacklisting certainly fills in some gaps in my understanding like why I have such a trouble getting firmware updates, sometimes even from Service Center.

It's been 6+ months since I took delivery of my car and all of that time something was pending to be done, not a single time where everything was completed. Even now I am still waiting for some parts, as new problems are developing (and then the recall got added to the pile too).

Guys stay away from this update... I got an "Air suspension needs servicing" message today and upon calling Tesla Support, I heard an automatic announcement mentioning issues with Homelink that they're aware of and are actively working to fix. Once I got to talk to a vehicle specialist regarding my stuck air suspensions, he confirmed an issue with 2017.42 that they're working on with an anticipated fix in the next few days.

TLDR - Stay away from 2017.42...

Note to self. Always stay 3 versions behind. Does Tesla even have a QA team for validation?
Former QA member said they only do (did while he was there) unit testing, not integration testing (without realizing it).

Edit: Come think of it, might be he is former QA team member because they decided this whole QA thing is too much of a hassle? ;)

Not sure how you ‘stay’ away from an update. This isn’t Windows. :D

Anyway, the Diagnostics team called me back at 9:30 ET. I gathered it’d been a fun day. He said the car was fine and that the software was looking for ‘a piece of hardware that was no longer there’. A new release is on its way ASAP meaning next week. I asked (again, lol) if there was anything to do or not do and he said no.

So, as I suspected, 17.42 is finding ghosts (do we call it the Halloween release!?) and is the cause of many of the issues this weekend.

I would recommend based on my experience that you be sure to have a remote app (Tesla or Remote S) capable and tested of doing remote start so you can do a power off/on if needed to clear a fatal alert.

Also, not sure how it applies to everyone else, but I’ve been getting releases pretty quickly. Wonder if AP2.5 cars are at the top of the list for a reason? I got 17.42 in hours after it was first noted.

Man, I sure hope these are teething bugs...

How does one “stay away” from a particular update? I can just ignore it when it pops up. But then what? Will the next one eventually come in and ask me to install it instead?
Good question on what happens if you ignore it. I thought the car had already downloaded it when you are in the ‘load me’ stage. So, I assume you still need to go through each one in order. No skipping ahead to a ‘good’ one!

The way I’ve read it here on TMC, you don’t need to go through them in order.
Yes, the update may have been downloaded, but not installed, so if a new update is available for your car, it will download and overwrite the previous update.

Otherwise going on vacation for a few months will create a serious hassle for you, when you return to your car.

Anyone notice heavier steering feel in Standard Mode in 17.42? Just drove my wife's X last night to make sure she would not have some of the issues people have been posting about and the steering felt much heavier to me than normal in Standard mode. I even switched it back and forth to Comfort to see if there was something wrong. Anyone else?

Sounds like the air suspension issue is real and introduced by .42. I am relieved that it’s not a hardware problem.

Wonder what they’re messing with in the code that controls the air suspension....

I always drive on the heaviest setting, so I didn’t notice anything. But, if they changed code with the air suspension it’s possible they’re messing with driving dynamics generally - how the suspension feels on the road. How much feedback there is through the steering wheel might fit with that narrative. Admittedly, connecting very distant dots here.

Glad to hear it does that... so you can wait and ‘override’ with a newer release!

I didn’t notice anything yesterday with 17.42 vs. 17.40.1; having said that, let me see today. I checked and I’m still set to Standard. I’ll see how it feels today.

It could be the same as mine, where it’s ‘looking for hardware that’s not there’, as in part of AP2.0 and now it’s AP2.5. Meaning hardware that’s in the control area, not the steering or SAS area itself. All of this seems connected to sensors, and not basic hardware.

And that’s me connecting dots that are far away, also. But since all that’s changed is 17.42 and only (it seems) in AP2.5 cars....
