...it's weird, but I wanted to buy one when I first bought Model 3, but now I'm fine with the phone app.
I don't need to carry around (and periodically lose) car key & key fob. It's kinda awesome!
Did he actually promise this or was this just something reported in some blogs that quoted "reliable sources"?What happened to the free ones that Elon promised current owners?
I'd buy one if they weren't garbage. No summon, and no proximity lock/unlock? That's pointless.

But my brother-in-laws cousins masseuses pool boy said it was true!Neither Elon or Tesla ever said a thing about offering the FOBs free (or even discounted) to anyone.
Exactly, this was ”reported” by one of the EV enthusiast websites claiming to have heard it from “sources” and many took it as an official announcement from Tesla.

Totally agree. The lack of the proximity function is a deal breaker.
he never promised anything. What happened to the free ones that Elon promised current owners?
ill buy it for $3.50I bought the FOB before I picked up my car. I expected I would like to have a FOB but since taking delivery I have only used the FOB once.
Sounds like Tesla did but backtracked. Doubt the website would have made this up out of thin air. The post would have been retracted or deleted if Tesla never mentioned this. Ultimately, it’s not a big deal as my phone works fine and no proximity fob stinks.he never promised anything.
