M3P- . What is it, how to order it, etc.

If you were responding to me, mine was inventory. As far as I know, they have yet to offer any P3D- upgrade to any LR AWD... even if it is technically possible. [insert debate]

AFAIK all of the following HAVE happened:

P3D- orderable from factory as such and delivered that way (last year)

P3D- ordered as above, but delivered car was AWD, when buyer pointed it out it was software flashed on the spot to P3D- no hardware change

P3D- bought from inventory (this year) but at delivery was actually AWD- software flash to P3D- came OTA a day or two later, again no HW change.

And the one to be most jealous of- AWD car ordered from factory, P3D- software came on car at delivery despite no underline badge and the window sticker (and amount paid) matching AWD.

Isn't that similar to a few postings here about getting premium service (eg, EAP/FSD) at delivery, and then that service goes away sometime later, without warning. There's a very long thread here about an owner who got (but did not pay for) EAP and used it for nine months. And then one day... poof!

So, if you got one of the P cars but didn't pay for it, it might disappear.

Sure. Was just listing it as another example of how (prior to the rear DU change on the AWD around April 2019) the AWD and P3D- were the same car other than software.

Right. I should have clarified that I just meant that no one has ordered a LR AWD then requested and gotten a P3D- upgrade to their LR AWD... in response to @Judders question.

Thanks man that was a long thread to go through! If they ever do allow a update to it, which it appears they have flashed awds ordered with it that didn’t have it on driver on the spot, they can rob me of my money cuz I’ll gladly pay for it

I originally ordered a LR AWD in July, on some UK forums it was rumoured that a few M3P- were available from inventory.

I emailed Tesla delivery's UK and received a phone call next offering me a P- in white with no extra charge on my order or Blue, I chose the blue with extra paint charge.

My invoice changed to LR AWD performance.

I took delivery on 30th September badged with red line, track mode and 980 motor.
I believe no-one in the UK who bagged a P- paid extra money apart from the standard extras.

Newbie question :
How can you know for sure if your AWD is stealth? Is there a vin hack, or sw check of sorts?

go to the menu when you hit the T at the top of the screen, you'll see your car/vin/etc... it'll say dual motor. If it has a red underline it's a P. If it doesn't, it's not.

Also a P would have track mode as an option to turn on, and a P would have Sport as an acceleration option

AUG 8, 2019 —

Hi all,

I was in the service center this morning for a rattle and ended up taking a test drive with a technician who has been with Tesla for 5 years. Of course I asked him about upgrading AWD to P software and told him about this petition with 1,500 supporters.

He suggested I submit a feature request to Tesla support and indicated that if enough people request things then he's seen them be implemented.

Well a few minutes later, he shows up again to tell me he looked through the database of these support tickets and couldn't find a single request for this upgrade.

So let's change that at scale…

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Go to Tesla SSO – Login
  2. Choose 'Car Features / Charging'from the drop-down
  3. Paste in this request: "Hello, I am a Model 3 AWD owner and would like a paid upgrade to Performance software for my car. Now that it's possible in the US to purchase a Performance Model 3 without the Performance Upgrade Package, please make a paid upgrade available to all AWD owners. Over 1,500 of us are ready and willing to pay to upgrade. Thank you. Sign the Petition"
  4. Click 'Done'
  5. Click 'Yes' when asked if you still need more help
  6. Enter your name and email address
  7. Click 'Email Us'
Thanks, all!

FYI there were five or six stealths in inventory when I spoke to the delivery specialist in Tampa. She didn't say that they were on hand, but were nearby or in the region and available. All red with one blue. Anna is her name if you want to call over there. Tell her I sent you!! (Seneca)

I don't think it makes sense for Tesla to allow people to update. I would likely make it more than $2000 since it hurts trades and sales of the performance model.

1. They make more if you trade your vehicle in for it and a lot of people actually did.
2. They would loose money and sales of the real performance model if they offered everyone an easy upgrade for $2000 and the full performance model likely has a much higher margin.
3. The $2000 cost of the stealth may not be much profit for Tesla. They might be just doing it to move cars. Nobody is actually sure what makes these performance models as far as I can tell. Even if it is the same motor something else may be different.
4. Even if its entirely the same vehicle there may be a calculated cost for chance of failure over time involved.

I think I can count on one hand the # of folks I've heard actually doing this. Certainly it'd be orders of magnitude less than would pay pure-profit-cash for the SW unlock though.

If folks are correct that the "new" AWDs with the 990 motor can't be flashed to P then it wouldn't hurt sales of the P at all, since this wouldn't be an option for new buyers.

I'm going to call but there appear to be two Tesla stores in Tampa. Do you have a number?

When Bjorn was testing his P3D+ he had a lower limit than that until Tesla installed the spoiler, at which time they upped the maximum speed. So I would assume the P3D- is limited to 140 MPH.
The issue with this is our car's reported limit in the software updates is stated to be 162 mph, and Tesla will not give us spoilers since we don't have PUP.
