Is there a correlation between the VIN and the build date, or does trim/configuration also factor into this? For example, I am seeing some LR model 3s with VINs in the 140xxx built the same month as Performance trims in the 80xxx range. Would adding "Build Date" to the order sheet help validate or refine that datapoint, or is it just based on certain production batches?
@Troy thanks for all the hard work. Great post and helpful spreadsheet. I order a LEMR 10/23/18. No reservation or previous Tesla contact. On 10/28/18 I edited order to AWD LR, partly in the hope for a better chance at delivery before the end of the year. The "edit" link was gone this morning and received a call and email from my IDA early this afternoon. Delivery 11/25/18. Let's hope my aero wheel cap kit arrives in time!

Thank you Troy. Do you still have the Tesla delivery estimation sheet ?I have now split the tables for Lemur on the VIN Queue tab based on whether buyers have priority. If you are a former or current Tesla owner or if you reserved the Model 3 for $1,000 while reservations were still open until the end of June 2018, then you have priority.

Elon Musk (24 Oct 2018 conference call): Well, we are trying to provide most affordable electric car options that we can. And since we just don't have the ability to get to the $35,000 car right away, we thought this might be a way to offer it as an intermediate step. And that's really it.
We expect to start producing a significant volume for Europe in January. And obviously take some time to ship, so deliveries - probably pretty significant deliveries in Europe kind of in the late February, March timeframe, because the cars have to get all the way from California to a customer in Europe. And for us, the car is only counted as delivered if it reaches the end customer and all the paperwork is completed correctly. So it's the highest possible standard for considering a sale a sale.
We may or may not deliver cars in APAC in Q1, but certainly in Q2. It will be kind of borderline as whether a car is delivered in APAC by the end of Q1. So I can't say it for certain. Definitely in Europe, but - and then definitely in APAC in Q2.
Ended up calling the national delivery number (888-771-2505) and got my VIN and other issues resolved
ending in 1128XX
That said, what can I tell from this VIN? I used the decoder and see it's a 2018; but we're 10 months and change in to 2018 so that doesn't mean much to me. I know some of you discuss how new a vehicle is based on VIN. Any insights?
