Is there a correlation between the VIN and the build date, or does trim/configuration also factor into this? For example, I am seeing some LR model 3s with VINs in the 140xxx built the same month as Performance trims in the 80xxx range. Would adding "Build Date" to the order sheet help validate or refine that datapoint, or is it just based on certain production batches?

Build date is tracked with the data item in the tracking form. Using the tracker, there is a graph showing Vins by production month. See the Vins tab, scroll to the right to see the graph.

@Troy thanks for all the hard work. Great post and helpful spreadsheet. I order a LEMR 10/23/18. No reservation or previous Tesla contact. On 10/28/18 I edited order to AWD LR, partly in the hope for a better chance at delivery before the end of the year. The "edit" link was gone this morning and received a call and email from my IDA early this afternoon. Delivery 11/25/18. Let's hope my aero wheel cap kit arrives in time!

I am also in Jax. Placed my MR order on 10/24. Haven't heard anything. Wonder if I should edit/upgrade to guarantee delivery before 12/31.

How do you edit to guarantee delivery ? Is there any link ? I placed order on 10/18.. no update

Sorry - poor choice of words. There is no way to guarantee delivery, but based on others editing their orders, it sounds like configuring your car a certain way "may" get you the car earlier. (i.e. configuring a more expensive model[may] = earlier delivery date) YMMV - no pun intended :D

I have now split the tables for Lemur on the VIN Queue tab based on whether buyers have priority. If you are a former or current Tesla owner or if you reserved the Model 3 for $1,000 while reservations were still open until the end of June 2018, then you have priority.

Btw, there are 4 identical Google Sheets. All links are in the opening message. If one file doesn't open, try another one.

Thank you Troy. Do you still have the Tesla delivery estimation sheet ?

Any discount due to out-of inventory purchase?

Delayed response since I missed this one.

Not for me. Mine sat around through Q3 waiting to repair a broken window I assume, then was sent my way once that was complete as a new car. As long as they address the paint blemishes and replace the plastic trim on the bottom edge I will be happy. Once that is done I will get an xpel wrap on the front. My main issue now is how to keep a black car clean, but that's for another thread. Ceramic coating seems very likely.

I ordered my M3 on 10/14/18. It was delivered today, 11/7/18. It was manufactured Oct 18. Nothing wrong noted on the car. I drove it home (100 miles) and it was a dream to drive! One note, a friend talked me into buying the $3,000 Full Self Driving capacity (FSD). I called Tesla prior to this to have the option removed but they thought it prolong my delivery date. I said it couldn't because there isn't anything on the car yet - it was a future option! So today I asked them to delete the option. They took it off and wrote up a new contract. Even my delivery specialist was getting confused about FSD and enhanced autopilot. He agreed FSD was probably years away. No wonder they took the FSD option off the menu when ordering.

@Troy it looks to me like production is solving for demand really quickly right now. When do you expect Tesla to pull the next demand lever, and what lever do you think they will pull next? (I think it'll be before end of November, and it'll be EU, and that they will have access to configure P, AWD, and RWD LR (for January/etc deliveries).) Unless US demand materially spikes as a result of Thanksgiving dinner family test drives, which I can't fathom frankly.

@Towner@2567 yes but it hasn't been updated after the last conference call. If your question is related to the Standard Range version, that version is delayed. Europe takes priority in early 2019.

@suwaneedad, see Elon's sentence I highlighted below. Production in most of January and early February should be for Europe. They have to ship those cars quickly and allow enough time for deliveries because they want the cars to be delivered in Q1 2019. In other words, if they make a car on 20 Feb for Europe and it's not delivered by 31st March 2018, that would be bad. Therefore, they might stop production for Europe on 15 Feb for the first batch and then continue with the second batch in early April. Leasing option for North America is possible in Q1 too.

Elon Musk (24 Oct 2018 conference call): Well, we are trying to provide most affordable electric car options that we can. And since we just don't have the ability to get to the $35,000 car right away, we thought this might be a way to offer it as an intermediate step. And that's really it.
We expect to start producing a significant volume for Europe in January. And obviously take some time to ship, so deliveries - probably pretty significant deliveries in Europe kind of in the late February, March timeframe, because the cars have to get all the way from California to a customer in Europe. And for us, the car is only counted as delivered if it reaches the end customer and all the paperwork is completed correctly. So it's the highest possible standard for considering a sale a sale.

We may or may not deliver cars in APAC in Q1, but certainly in Q2. It will be kind of borderline as whether a car is delivered in APAC by the end of Q1. So I can't say it for certain. Definitely in Europe, but - and then definitely in APAC in Q2.

Ended up calling the national delivery number (888-771-2505) and got my VIN and other issues resolved :)
ending in 1128XX

That said, what can I tell from this VIN? I used the decoder and see it's a 2018; but we're 10 months and change in to 2018 so that doesn't mean much to me. I know some of you discuss how new a vehicle is based on VIN. Any insights?

My pickup location emailed me 2 days ago to let me know they wouldn't have my car until the 14th and they've scheduled me to pickup on the 15th. :(

I'm in Raleigh, NC and ordered a red/black LR AWD TM3 non-performance on 10/17... While the website still says Expected Delivery is Dec '18, the edit button is still visible and there's no VIN. I'm starting to get a bit nervous that we won't get it this year. It's also frustrating to read about everybody who ordered similar cars later and have already received delivery dates. Anybody else waiting for a car in Raleigh?
