Model 3 Owners Referral Program (Will there be one?)

I don't think we have any data points to confirm/deny this yet as we don't have an non-employee, non-owners who have been invited to configure yet. I was wondering if Model 3 owners were going to get a referral code at all. Obviously not for some of the bigger referral goodies the Model S/X folks got, as it sounds like that's going away anyway, but maybe for other fun stuff like hats and t-shirts. At the very least to get maybe $100 off for the interested party.

Giving away referral codes just feels like part of the Tesla culture. Showing off the cars, being proud to refer others to the family. Seems like something they'd want to keep going.

If you're a non-owner who gets to configure, let us know if a referral code shows up for you. I probably have at least another month or two as a non/non in CO before I get to order.

I wouldn’t expect it for Model 3 owners referring other Model 3 buyers. However perhaps they may have something for Model 3 owners referrals resulting in the sale of an S or X.

If there is one it won't be for a year or more and it will probably be something based on the type of car the referee buys. If they get a model 3 you make a get a couple hundred kWh of supercharger time or something.

This is a point... they may give 3 owners a code, and it’s only good on an S or X. We’ll have to see what the ‘new’ referral program does after January 31, when the ‘current’ on expires.

It would have to be a confirmed order, I believe. That's when you get the code. So, we should have someone by now! (A previous non-owner...)

FYI, Ryan has confirmed in the RTL podcast that 3 owners will get a referral code good only for S and X purchases (and Solar). This is somewhat what we were thinking, and glad to see it’s what Tesla has done.

What makes you think anyone is great at referring friends? Most of the people with more than one or two referrals in a referral period run YouTube sites and have never met their “friends.” It’s a scam for the most part. Heaven forbid that Tesla is expanding the program. They should kill it and the You Tubers could earn a legitimate living.

No doubt with the people who have amassed tons of referrals. But do you honestly think that one person with a decent amount of acquaintances couldn't convince some small number of them to buy a car?
