A little off topic I admit ...
Writers often quote E. Musk saying this and that.
I only started reading this forum a month or so ago when I reserved my M3. I know very little about Mr. Musk other than what I read here and in the news.

Q - How involved in E. Musk in day to day decisions? Is he physically on site in Fremont?
He seems to be "spread pretty thin" with his Space X interest.

I recognize that any good administrator delegates much to qualified engineers, designers, manufacturing experts, software specialist and robot technicians.
Just curious.

Read the Ashlee Vance biography on him. :) He has a crazy work schedule and spends a good amount of time at both companies.

Someone needs to teach the Tesla engineers supercharger courtesy - don't take the pull-in stall, so that a Model X towing a trailer can take it without unhooking, or blocking multiple chargers! (Actually, I'm impressed at how well the X driver did at not blocking any chargers).
Good catch. But people are so addicted to parking nose first, it would be easier to get them to give up their smartphones...
(I don't get it: it is so much easier to pull out nose first. The visibility, the absence of doubt about backing into someone, etc...)

I am of the opposite opinion: nothing is gained by backing in. It takes longer to do, and people are generally not as good at it so their parking jobs are often worse. With a Tesla it's dictated by the supercharger arrangement, but with other cars it's some kind of fad these days, often indulged in by people who can't back in worth a darn.

Anyway, with all these sightings across the country I've been hoping to spy one in Las Vegas, especially since the sighting in Barstow. But no luck yet. The last time I passed the southern supercharger site it was just 3 S's and an X.

OT, but it concerns me that anyone might run across Vance's writing without being aware it is fictionalized history. Events many of us on TMC saw happen in real time were fictionalized in Vance's writing, so, I don't take anything else Vance wrote as reality unless I can independently verify it. fwiw, I don't mean a different viewpoint, I mean, for example, fiction such as citing Event B that happened months after Event A as a cause of Event A, and both of these events were quite significant.

Here is some great writing about Musk and his companies by Tim Urban, a writer who Musk asked to come meet with him and write about SpaceX, Tesla, ... That was decidedly not the case as to why Elon spoke to Vance (he refused Vance, but Vance went ahead, and then told Elon the book was going to be published whether Elon spoke to him or not).

Asian aesthetic (If I can be forgiven the generalization) for 'luxury' doesn't match what Red calls 'Victorian coach making'. Actually, the Model 3 interior seems like a good start in that direction.

It's nothing about a mystical Asian aesthetic, it's simply that people want luxury in a small car in Asia. Most car owners are higher income people who want luxury in a car. The model 3 just won't do it for your average Asian car buyer.

99% of the time I back in. Biggest reason for that is that I drove Chrysler 300 for 11 years (sold it 6 months ago, in anticipating for M3). That sucker is so long, if I went in nose first, I'd be blocking 3 lanes coming out until I can see if there's any traffic. Only option was butt in first, and then coming out nose first. And with the size/length of the front, most parking lots it was faster to back in since that way you can do it in one take, but nose first it would have trouble turning as the front (gah... don't know the English word for this.. what you call the forward length beyond front wheels?), that thingy had massive front so always backed in if possible.

Really interesting, thanks. However, it does repeat the very common media mistake of saying Mr Musk "launched" Tesla Motors. He did not. He came in, funded and took over a company that had already been launched, but was not likely to survive. He enabled Tesla Motors. His vision and drive were keys to its succcess. But he did not launch it.

This is one of the reasons back up cameras are becoming mandatory. The wide angle of these cameras usually allows you to see around the corners long before you backup far enough to see visually.

Who said anything about 'mystical'? Here is what Lucid Air is making for the luxury Asian market:

Looks a lot more like a Model 3 than any German 'luxury' car.
