Model S Delivery Dates and Sequencing

Called today to see if they have a VIN yet... I need it so my utility company can install my elec service (part of an initiative that includes two years of free night-time charging).

First of all, the phone number I called off of Tesla's website was answered by a honest-to-goodness flesh and blood human being after about four rings. He didn't even have to transfer my call, he was able to help me right then and there. Total call lasted less than two minutes.

Unfortunately, the gentleman I spoke to informed me that it didn't look like my car has even entered production yet. He did tell me that I should call often, and gave me a different number to call, so I'll try again tomorrow.

I am now more solid in my skepticism that my car will be delivered before December 31st.

Reservation#?? Pls put in your profile or sig!!

PattyChuck, I give your car little to no chance of arriving by Jan 1.

My delivery window is Dec. 7-21. Here we are, four days from the end of my window and my car is still sitting in the factory, awaiting payment. (Seriously, they're holding it for me to make payment?!? I wired the money to them in full this morning, and my DS told me that the payment date would not delay delivery). I was asked to wire money Friday evening. That's hard to do when the banks are closed.

This whole delivery experience with Tesla has been aggravating. I'm trying to be patient and tolerant, but how much time do they need to get some simple communication straight?

Meanwhile I'm seeing P3800+ folks on the east coast getting delivery dates. All I can see is my gray 85 sitting in the corner of the factory, in a dark shadow at 8% SOC gathering dust. Frustrating.

Not happy. Tesla, step up your game.

I just got a phone call and email mail saying my car is in the "final stages of manufacturing and will be ready for delivery by the end of the year". No VIN yet though... Tesla asked for a copy of my drivers license and insurance so they could do the final paperwork and schedule delivery (I'm doing factory pickup).

Finger's crossed for a pre-New Year pickup!

How can you get car insurance without a VIN #?

A more polite tone is appreciated. The member does have their reservation number in their signature. Note that there is absolutely no requirement on TMC to do so.
Sorry! I don't entirely understand that red banner, so haven't been looking at it!! I see the # now, of course. (And the 'Pls' is truly intended to acknowledge politely that it's private info, if anyone's at all sensitive about it. TMC members are of course a small and rapidly shrinking sample % of the total reservations, so all data is rare and precious.)

Comprehending what's happening in the deliveries is really tough while TM is cranking right now! I hope reservers don't get too lost in the scramble. But it's sure fascinating to watch the process. TM's critical path meetings must really be something!

Todd, that's a royal bummer!

Based on a conversation with TeslaHQ today (which again, I reiterate, was an excellent experience and followed up with two after-hours emails), I am not optimistic that my car is coming this year. If it doesn't make it on a truck by Christmas, I don't see it happening.

Well I've basically been told that I won't actually be driving my car until after New Year's but that the technical delivery takes place when they load the car on the truck at the factory. It's the same way they get away with delivering cars to Texas.

Just got a call from Tesla! Told to expect final delivery email within the next 1-2 days and car should be ready to put on the truck shortly after.

Interesting note: They said that due to the rushed 2012 delivery my car most likely will not come with a delivery specialist. Instead the trucking company will just drop it in my driveway and a specialist will arrive within 1-2 weeks to go through everything in detail.

By this point I've played with the car so much, and read the forums enough, that I could probably handle it all on my own anyhow. :)

Very excited now!

So are they going to waive the stupid $180 final prep fee since they are not detailing the car before it's dropped off to you?

Got a call from Tesla Sunday asking if I was ready. Yay! Said I was, I thought he said I'd get paperwork today, but no papers. Also said they put it on the truck after payment, but I thought that was only for problem states like Texas (I'm in Oregon). So, probably after Xmas sometime given I don't foresee money wired until Wednesday at best.
Direct ship. No DS. No real prep or "delivery experience". Not a big deal, since like many of us I'm already quite up on things.
