Model S Delivery Dates and Sequencing

It adds up when you realize that east coast customers have lower priority.

I wouldn't quite put it that way (although the effect is the same as if that were true). Tesla needs to get as many cars shipped in 2012 as possible. Cars can be loaded on a transport only so fast--at least five to 10 minutes per car based on the unloading videos. And there are only so many transport trucks available and only a limited number of loading bays. Factory delivery, or delivery from a local store is much faster.

That's not the issue. My car sat in the Fremont lot waiting for delivery for a full week. I verified this because I called every day. Meanwhile, I saw several cars--several that had been reserved a year after mine--get loaded on the truck and delivered to the Midwest and East Coast. Also, several different inside delivery specialists I talked to confirmed that they're pushing to CA folks with priority to hit their delivery numbers.

And therein lies the source of my frustration. Shokunin, I've noticed your P7xxx car has a VIN already. I'm sitting here in Atlanta with a P5320 car and am not to the VIN stage. I've called, they didn't deny it when I stated I'm hearing there's a big CA push and we are getting pushed back on the East Coast. There are pros and cons to this process. One hand, I'll be able to say I have a 2013 car instead of a 2012 car. On the other hand, I'm losing some extra money that would have paid for some of the options on the car without being able to get my business deduction. Currently I'm leaning to the cons outweighing the pros.

Looks like I was wrong.. yesterday's thread of "not going to make it 2012" seem to confirm that. Originally seems like everyone was getting delivery dates (15-31st) spread all across the country. Now that the VINs were released seems like they are prioritizing the west coast.

I received my performance model S ( P#172) Thursday 12/20. I had been told it was put on a truck the previous Saturday and I would get a call 48 hours before arrival. Well.. At noon on Thursday the driver calls me to tell me he is an hour away. Luckily I could get home. Very nice driver. It took me a while to remove all the shipping wraps from the car but when I did I couldn't believe how stunning the car is. I had never seen one in person.

I still don't have any paperwork, so I can't drive it yet. Love the car but after waiting 1363 days, 21 hours, 11 minutes and 0 seconds since my deposit, the delivery experience has been pretty bad.

Did everyone have to remove there own shipping wraps?
Wow, I can't believe that. What you went through is completely different than what I did. We here in Western Florida are getting a much better experience. Ben Bird, a Tesla Delivery Specialist brings the vehicle on a flatbed behind a pickup. In my case yesterday morning, he showed up precisely on time and carefully deposited our Model S in the driveway. It had just been fully detailed and was in prestine, mint condition-absolutely stunning! He spent 3 hours with us, taking us through all the features and explaining everything. We then went for a Familiarzation drive. The paperwork took 90 seconds and I paid for the car with a check from my financing bank plus a personal check for the down payment. I would rate Tesla's handling of my delivery 10 out of 10. I have been waiting 3 1/2 years and the entire experience has been very rewarding. Now that we have the car, the fun really can begin.

Your story is CRAZY! You / we have been waiting for years. The technology of the car appears to be spectacular, but the delivery, many aspects of the delevery sequencing, and communication with deliverees (is that a word?) appears to be rather "amateur."

Yes, I'm splitting hairs. Kinda bothers me that the TM website still tells me that the "Tesla factory is building your Model S." it is really weird that the computer genius who founded PayPal has trouble providing accurate status updates.

That status thing is more aspirational than reality. I now have two Teslas and it didn't work for either.

To be fair, the logistics involved in the whole enterprise are pretty enormous, and they've moving unbelievably fast. I never had any expectation of it working.

It's like my mom told me - life isn't fair. I'm P1312/VIN2530, production is complete, paperwork is all done, TM has the funds, and the car has been sitting there for days "awaiting transport." I hope that some truck driver enjoys the holiday with his family and I get the car next week.

I am in the same boat with P2112 VIN1936. It's been sitting in logistics for about a week if not a few days more now.

Really? The "Status:" field on the My Garage webpage wasn't very functional for describing the delivery status of either your Roadster or Model S. it ought to be either functional / accurate or deleted from the webpage.

My car is said to have left Fremont at 3:59pm (PT) on Friday. The driving time to Scottsdale is 12 hrs, 6 min. It's now been 42 hrs, 11 minutes. Maybe the driver stopped for coffee, maybe he has a girlfriend in Barstow . . . no, I'm not anxious.

I just amused myself by considering that my first car was a 1929 Model A that cost $250. The 2012 Model S will be a bit more expensive (and does not come with an optional hand crank for use when the battery is low on charge). We've come a long way.

It has been really bad. No delivery specialist no nothing. I have been invited to talk on the phone for a 60-90 minute orientation and that is it. The car has lots of scratches and the service department and asked me if my DS took any pictures. They seem to have completely lost track of me and my car. The registration did not arrive until Saturday. I am pretty bummer out after spending over 100,000 dollars on the car. The person who I have been speaking to seemed to indicate that this is the future way. No delivery specialist. I love the car, but have lost a little faith in Tesla.

What state are you in? Tesla is not allowed to have DES's present in at least TX, GA, and I believe AZ (possibly MA too?). Unfortunately, dealer laws are antiquated in those states and aren't designed around silly things like the Internet. I had to take delivery myself for that reason.

If there are physical scratches on the car, the delivery company should have taken pictures of the car upon delivery for their insurance. You should be able to verify against those pictures if there was any pre-existing damage.
