Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Wow, good for you but Tesla is gonna piss some people off who have been waiting for their HPWCs for many months after delivery of their cars. I'm still waiting but just got car on March 7.

Within the next 2 weeks all backlogged HPWC's will have shipped, according to some folks I talked to. Not much anger to stick with if you've been there for months. :)

The Mega Mobile Connector, MMC

I need the HPWC to connect in a couple of locations so I set it up with a 100A Hubbell pin and sleeve connector. I really would not endorse this as a mobile connector setup they just are not designed for it and you are dealing with a lot of power here. But for a couple of semi permanent locations maybe.

How much did this cost you? If you really need two semi permanently, a second HPWC might make sense?

Holy crap, that's going to take a model S just to carry the weight of it around. :)

...and those Hubbell connectors are not cheap at all... I think at the prices I'm aware of that it would take 3 locations before this would be worthwhile, otherwise just get a second HPWC. :)

Yes probably not all that economically practical at $500 for each end of the connector, but we utilize these connectors already so some of it was paid for. However as the HPWCs seemed to be made of unobtainium this seemed like a reasonable approach. Now Tesla will probably start banging out the HPWCs like popcorn.

The connector and 6' of cable weigh about 10 pounds so all together about 35 pounds with the HPWC.

My HPWC arrived yesterday (14-Mar-13). I have VIN #03218. Package was left at the door - good thing I checked.

I installed it last night and it worked fine on the 100A circuit. I used the Panduit J-Pro Cable Support as a temporary measure until the cable organizer is available. I also sliced my hand with a box cutter because I was too lazy to get the wire strippers.

OUCH! Nice installation--looks like it belongs there. :)

My second HPWC arrived today... "oops". Going back to Tesla tomorrow for another waiting customer. :)

Oh, you tease.... ;-)

I'm VIN 7824 with a delivery date range of 3/22-4/5. My product specialist at Tesla responded, upon my asking, that my HPWC would arrive 48 hours before or after my vehicle's delivery. Does that sound about right, given the previous backlog? I'm trying to decide if I should have my electrician install a NEMA 6-50 as an interim measure.

Car came 3/7, still now HPWC. So certainly not within 48 hours for me...

Experience shows that only the fool-hardy apply logic to Telsa's shipping strategy :)

I have the 6-50, and plan to fit the HPWC when it arrives.

My HPWC (High Powered Wall Charger) finally arrived...Info & photo...Any questions?

I just received my HPWC, and will have it installed next week. They are (supposedly) being shipped out in order based on reservation number...I was P2009 and received my car on 12/30/12, in case you're wondering where along the line yours (theoretically) is.

At quick glance, the HPWC unit itself is about 6.25" wide by 15" high. The cable is substantially thicker than the portable charging cable that the car comes with: The portable charging cable is 9/16" thick...The HPWC cable is 7/8" thick, and is harder and less flexible. The charging stick is virtually the same as on the portable charger.

My HPWC came with a steel mounting back-plate, and a box with some screws, nuts, and a ground wire. That's it. No garden hose-style organizing hook, I guess that is still forthcoming. In the meantime, I will most likely use an actual garden hose organizer hook.

For those of you still waiting for yours, let me know if you have any questions about the unit.

Just had my HPWC installed today by Mister Electric of Florida, these guys have done several electric projects for me and I was told today that they will get the orders directly from Tesla when you order an HPWC. The guys I have do good work and know something about chargers and charging infrastructure. Be kind, my garage does not look like you rich guys. As a matter of fact 3 weeks ago you could not walk thru this garage.

Grats on finally getting in your unit.

My question is: How long is the cord?

My 220v outlet is in a different spot than the 110 I plug into (what I use to top off the car at night). I'm hoping the cord on the HPWC is at least 3 feet longer than the portable charging cord that comes default with the car. To use the 220 (6-50 adapter) I have to back in the car into my garage, at an angel, to get the car close enough for the cord to reach.

It's supposedly 25ft vs. the 18ft for the UMC.

Apologies if this has been asked an answered...

HPWC is now installed. I have the 85kw with twin chargers.

I'm still only getting 40 amps. I tried manually setting the amps to 80... plugged in the HPWC, reverted to 40 amps.

The HPWC is connected to a 100A breaker in a subpanel, which is fed by a 100A breaker at my main panel. We set the dip switches for a 100A feed.

I've called the LA service center, and they're pulling the logs. While they're doing that... figured I'd ask you brilliant folks and see if there was something obvious I was missing.
