Well, after some research, in NSW, the best price i got was with QBE. New for old for two years, windscreen and hire car, S85 with all options, $1846, with XS of $1250. NRMA is next best $1945 XS $650. depends on your feelings about XS i guess. Worst was GIO - over 3 grand!!!!
Using comparethemarket.com.au, budget direct comes up as a good deal.

From NRMA: market value & wind screen & no hire car is $1032 pa with XS $650. Take off $53 pa for no wind screen option. I have a couple of policies and no claim bonus (even tho I've claimed..) with NRMA, which I think is what makes it a good deal. Curious what they think "market value" is, because they didn't seem to have much data and couldn't yet price up an agreed value quote.

If I end up with $1032 come delivery, I'll be pretty happy.

@Dborn, for comparison was your NRMA quote with any existing policies/membership discounts?

My quote was with full no claim bonus, two minor policies, windscreen, hire car, and $164000 value - they asked me to nominate. I have yet to receive the quote in writing - coming in the snail mail.

OK, just got a quote from YOUI in NSW. They are very pushy, but their price and benefits are the best i have come across. Not perfect by any means, but....! $1000 XS, new for old for 24 months. Includes glass with a $1000 XS - steep. Hire car for 14 days (upgradable). Price, $1177 for my sig.

Does RACWA insure outside the State? I sent them an email to ask. Will wait and see what reply I get. At present in NSW, it seems NRMA may be the go, AAMI, when contacted a month ago said no, but to contact them closer to release date.
Answer? NO they do not insure outside of WA.

I just got a quote from AAMI.

I have 3 cars insured with them and have been with them for at least 20 years and have virtually no claims until last year when I had a couple of small claims....I have a lifetime one rating so the impact of the claims was the loss of a 15% "safe driver" reward which I will regain when I renew next year. The lifetime rating is no longer available for NEW policies or ADDITIONAL cars but I can convert my existing RX8 policy so retain this.

So my RX8 renewal date is 28 September and cost me $1355 - the Tesla P85+ is an additional $600 - So around $2,000. Next year I will regain the 15% so this should be around $1,700 to $1800. I am pleasantly surprised as I expected the P85+ to cost considerably more to insure as compared with the standard Tesla.

This is for a new for old for two years. The maximum value is a 'only' $173,324 (real cost $198k in Vic) but I am assured that the new for old covers actual cost. I assume the notional value is used for insurance valuations after the two years.

Given that I have a lifetime rating I will stay with AAMI.

Cheers
David

I have two other cars with AAMI so they offered me comprehensive one year for $956 for the (non-performance) Sig, with a $1200 standard excess. This policy allows my wife and 22 year old son as occasional drivers. I have bought the policy. This is part of a 20% discount that is on at the moment.

Kind of envious of you guys and these quotes. My P85+ in Japan is setting me back a painful $2,400 in Japan. Somehow costing more to ensure than late model Aston Vantage S Roadster... it seems mostly because they haven't quite figured out what Model S is here yet, and it is basically in some kind of extreme category. (Doesn't help that my driving license essentially reset to being a brand new driver when I moved to Japan a couple of years ago too, sadly, the equivalent of losing many years of Oz maximum no claim bonus...)
