Model S Order & Delivery Tracker - Q1 2014

I'm still waiting. The car arrived on Thursday but it took the rest of the day to install the winter wheels/tires as I forgot to give them the lug nuts and then the lug nuts turned out to be the wrong thread pitch (thanks Tirerack). On Friday the wrap people basically cleaned it - which also took some care and attention as there were rust shards on the car due to the older car being transported above my car. Can't believe all the attention the car is getting as model S' are still a rarity in these parts despite a handful of very early adopters. The tire place drove the car round the block to reset the TPMS though I could have done that myself - think a couple of them took it around (better check my odometer). They played it pretty cool at first (they are a performance shop for ICE cars) but a few people had a look and the guy who sold me the tires complimented the car. The wrap place apparently have people phoning them to ask when the car will be in the shop (they must have told a few people they were doing one) and while I was there "visiting" on Friday a guy wandered in through the open back door and started asking questions about it. I may have to sell tickets at this rate! I am finding I spend a lot of time discussing it and electric vehicles in general now with family and friends. My role as an EV ambassador in oil country has begun.

Yes. Welcome to "Tesla Time". I've heard many people have to devote at least an hour a day to it.

What was the response from TireRack about the incorrect lugs? This is not something I would think to check for. Probably would have just forced them on. "Hmm, these lugs are a little stiff. Well, my impact wrench will fix that."

I think I'm going to collect pictures of the wrap process and maybe put them in a thread in case anyone is interested, i.e. I'll stop posting pics in here.

Please leave a link to the new thread when you do.

2 pics below of the car in the shop after cleaning and with the new Rial Lugano wheels on. I'm going to add Red T stickers to these. I think I'm going to collect pictures of the wrap process and maybe put them in a thread in case anyone is interested, i.e. I'll stop posting pics in here.

PLEASE link us! I am ordering blue tomorrow (as long as the wife okays the color) and I love the color. I am thinking of getting Xpel Ultimate as well and I would like to see how it affects the color. Thank you in advance!

Will certainly do. As I was saying to someone else, the shades such as blue, green, brown etc. are a bit chameleon like. In some of my pics above it looks like a very cool black color but as you can see in the shop picture sometimes the blue is really dominant - if we get some sunshine I need to take some outside pics for contrast. The trick when its wrapped will be to compare like with like - i.e. I'll try to get pics that match the before shots I have.

So far I haven't heard back. The company installing the wheels found some dark lug nuts of their own and used those (for $55). I don't think I'll get $55 but I may as well send the lug nuts back for whatever they're worth. Not a big deal in the overall scheme of things but it was a bit annoying. Actually the full story is that I initially got chrome lug nuts, after complaining I got sent the dark lug nuts. The dark ones had the wrong thread pitch so I brought in the chrome ones. According to the installer they wouldn't have worked properly either. I compared the two and they are a different shape and style. Not sure if the dark ones would have worked - had the thread pitch been correct.

I have a question about the delivery specialist process. Tomorrow I am hitting the order button I think. I would like to know if the delivery specialist or purchase specialist will contact me quickly or if its something that will happen 2 months into the process? I would like to nail down special case things (I live in Texas) and trade in and so on. I guess my question will be answered when I do it, but I wonder about others experiences if the button press to the specialist was pretty engaging and a good experience.

I was contacted about a week later. I've read varying opinions on each person's DS. Mine has not been extremely responsive - replies to emails after one or two days of delay, if at all. Phone calls are returned, but usually with the same delay. It's possible they are all swamped with end of quarter deliveries, but I would be sure to establish your expectations upon DS assignment. I haven't had a lot of needs from my DS aside from my post-confirmation design change, so it's been fine for me - you appear to have different needs.

Based on normal case scenarios, you should be contacted within a couple weeks of confirming by your delivery specialist. In the meantime any questions you have, you can ask your sales rep. He should be able to handle the common questions about your special case (ie ordering in Texas). If you want to get information sooner than after submitting your order, I recommend you call your local gallery.

however I can speak from someone in VA ordering their car (which should be bout the same situation as you). What will likely happen, is you are "buying" the car from a nearby state. If I am not mistaken Oklahoma is that state for you. They will then bring the car to your nearest service center in the state, and you will pick it up from there.

as far as selling your current car, there are some different options for you, but the best, if you want to get the most money will be a private sale. You are going to get a bit screwed over in selling a car to a local dealership.

The delay was my choice. :)

Had a lease coming up in March. One car family (also by choice).

Curious if they built my car with the power mirrors as that wasn't available when I ordered (but now it's part of the tech package). Fingers crossed!

I see. So maybe you locked in before the price increase? If you don't want to be surprised about the mirrors, the DS can probably tell you. It is kind of important, because it's a wide car. My garage has posts on either side.

I'm thinking my dashboard may not be accurate. If they're building 600 cars a week, mine should be done by the end of the week, and then be here 5 days after that (3/17 estimated delivery).

OK, I'll stop obsessing now.
