Confirmed 5/17...quoted late Aug delivery...No VIN yet...seems like the April orders are taking roughly 2 months, now it looks as though the May orders are at 3 months, bummer...P85 ordered...doesn't look like the P's have any priority like they may have had prior...

There's apparently a 3-week Fremont factory production shutdown in July for retooling. That may explain the difference.

I believe Elon said it was going to be a 10 day shutdown.

That is how I remember it also from the ER guidance call. TM usually takes a week off each quarter to retool/break for employees so I am looking at this as (hopefully) minimal impact on production as it will essentially be only an additional 3-4 days longer a 'retooling/vacation' break.

For the Hong Kong RHD market, I have a local thread running, and it is quite exciting as we are coming closer to the first deliveries in Hong Kong - hopefully the first ones in a month or less for the Signatures!

This is what we know of at the moment:

HK Tesla Model S Tally - 2014-06-08.png

Ordered in Australia on May 30th and received VIN 46624

Ordered: 5/24/14
Confirmed: 5/28/14

It's now June 8th and I have not received my VIN or any contact from anyone at Tesla. @heostat, you ordered after me and got your VIN already. Clearly they don't assign VINs in the order people confirm their orders. I sent an email to the sales person who helped me at the store; hopefully she can explain what's going on with my order.

From history, it looks like Vin #s are assigned when a car is close to production. Australia (heostat) recently offered the pricing on orders for the RHD models and I have to assume not everyone jumped on board and confirmed right after that. Most likely they want to build a bunch of RHD models (right hand drive) and ship them soon since it takes quite a while to get to Australia by ship and they want to send as many on one boat as possible and not stagger them. Makes sense. I believe heostat's car may be built before many US-confirmed orders to satisfy some of the new market there. It isn't a lot - they could build the whole Australia set of orders in a couple days. You will probably get your Vin # as your production date closes in.

Another thing that I've seen Tesla do is give Vin #s to foreign buyers earlier so they can spend the time to get financing settled and insurance paperwork. There were times in mid 2013 where European orders got Vin #s 3 months prior to their order being built.

@ev-solar-fan
I ordered and confirmed 5/6/14 (S85) and was assigned VIN on 5/21 (45527). I have had no contact from DS. I even emailed store with question about setting up payment / wire transfer etc and he forwarded to DS (on 5/27) and still I have heard nothing, including no response to my question.

Originally, was told July delivery, store said they could get moved up to early July with "special slots" they have available to get me to commit that day. That said, dashboard still just says July.

So, my point is, EV-Solar-Fan, you are not alone. I think the few people bumped up are the exception, not the rule. But it is driving me crazy waiting. And I have to admit, I am impatient but disappointed it has been 2 weeks since I emailed a direct question about payment / financing and have not heard back. I guess it means I will really be mid-July.

bonaire, thanks for the info. I'll take a chill pill about my VIN. I have to get in line and wait like everyone else for my moment to drive off in my new Model S.

I confirmed on May 24th (US order) and don't have my VIN either. As far as I've seen the vast majority (if not all) US orders placed in late May are still waiting for VINs. So yeah, as difficult it is we just have to be patient. (And it's not easy for me either!!!)

Here's some un-asked-for advice - poop on emails to the salesperson! Call and get somebody on the phone! I talked to them throughout the process when I ordered mine - get your delivery specialist's name and phone number - make a pest of yourself! They deserve it and expect it!

Sorry, I don't know what got into me. But really, call them now! The main Tesla number in Fremont. They will be delighted to get your call and you'll get lots of good info from them!

By the way, I changed my config twice after "confirming" so don't worry if you want to change it - just ask.

I also confirmed 5/6 and was assigned a VIN 5/21 (45418). My DS, Whitney, who handles Chicago area and maybe Indiana, emailed me on 5/18 to let me know my delivery would be the week of July 14. She also uploaded my driver's license and insurance info to My Tesla. I asked once about delivery and she said it hadn't changed. I asked today but she is out of the office until Saturday.

ajw confirmed 5/6 (VIN 45160) and his S85 went into production June 9. Delivery to East Coast Jun 27.

They should crank out 900 cars a week in June so I'd expect SladeC and me to be in production by June 16 based on the math, unless there are a lot of P85s bumping us back. That would also mean delivery around the 4th of July. Cross your fingers.

2 months from now this all will be a distant memory.

I am Magically close to SladeC & Footer with my numbers:
Confirmed 5/6, Vin assigned 5/21, VIN#:45415.

Interestingly, I'm not a US delivery, so I'm closely monitoring what happens with you 2, in terms of production starting.
It might be all different, but the VIN# and dates are so similar, that we can easily what difference it makes to have a European delivery when it comes to the actual production planning. Delivery itself is about 6 weeks for us, vs a few days for you that is a given, but I'm really interested if my car gets produced on the same day as yours.

I have made my reservation today. I know I have 2 weeks to change or cancel the order. I am wondering whether the time I commit to the order has any effect on my position in the waiting list, or is it determined by the time of my order submission ? If I commit earlier, like within a day, would it speed up my delivery ? Current estimate says End of September.

My reservation number and options:
RN657858 : Red + tan S85, pano, tech, air, dual-charger, subzero, 19" Michelin, parking, foglamp

My salesperson said it's the date you confirm that sets things in motion, so yes any wait will affect delivery date.

I did speak with a DS from Chicago the other day and then with mine finally yesterday morning (apparently mine is swamped). They both state production week of July 7th, delivery around July 21. Jealous of ajw - same confirm date but 3 wks ahead. I think we are hitting the factory slow down, re-tooling etc. Oh well. It will be awesome when the wait is over. Now that I have a better idea of the date, I have been able to only check the forums / dashboard etc. once a day instead of continuously.

Also had a local owner who got his May 25th reach out to me, offer a drive etc. I think driving it again will just make the wait harder, though.
