Interesting (and disappointing) conversation with my DS today. Despite the fact that my MX 90D entered production in late March, it continues to sit in "factory gate" status in Fremont, which is exactly the same status that's been reported for four weeks now. I would have expected it to be in transit to Massachusetts a long time ago.

Not sure whether this is just the company line, but he said that there has been a slowing of cars through the pipeline in the last couple of weeks, "because we need to make certain that every car is as current as possible with the latest engineering". And then he cited the seat recall as an example of another engineering item that held up deliveries a couple of months ago.

I really don't know whether he knew something about a change that's coming about, or whether this is just what they say when there is an inexplicable delay. I see other deliveries being made, and it has me worried that there was some kind of testing fail on my particular vehicle that caused a substantial re-work.

Has anyone else seen a "factory gate" hold for four weeks after production? Any ideas?

When you say your car entered production in March - do you mean that you were in the production queue? or were you told that it was 'In production'? If it was 'in production queue' then that just meant you were in line for your car to be produced - not actually being produced. If it was actually in production this is a very unusual situation compared to other posts. I am wondering if the problem may be your DS not understanding what he/she was reading and then miscommunicating to you. I say this because I have not read any other posts on any other threads describing anything similar to your situation. I do know there are longer post production waits for shipping (they are using rail now and it takes 3wks to get to east coast) and some delays while they gather cars for shipment.

When you say your car entered production in March - do you mean that you were in the production queue?

No, in late February I was told I was had entered the production queue for mid-March. In late March, I was told that the car was in production. Then around April 10th they said it was in post-production testing, and would enter transport shortly. Starting about April 20th, they said it was in "factory gate" status, and would be in transit soon.

That's what's so puzzling here: that I see other vehicles move through the various stages of production and transit, while mine is reported just sitting there, waiting for something to happen. That's what makes me wonder if something is amiss...

well i got a less than happy email yesterday....

So I confirmed in January. 90D, etc etc...VIN 4xxx

My original timeline was set for April delivery. Then it became May....

most recently...it was Mid-may production with June delivery. Thus I've been in this thread.

So the email yesterday? I'm "on track" for a June build...and lord knows when delivery.

4 months after my order was confirmed...and nothing...not any closer than when my order was confirmed and my $5,000 taken out of my pocket. I can't get mad my my DS..he's very nice...and there's nothing he can say. He's the middle man. He keeps telling me "it's worth the wait"...and I believe it. Also, he offered me to come in and drive the model x they have there. He's been responsive and pleasant. No concerns with him.

I'm very unhappy with Tesla. This is absolute s#*t. My friend ordered his same model x one month after me and has had his for 4 weeks already. This is frankly frustrating and borderline inexcusable. There is no communication as to why I keep getting pushed back. There is no compensation for poor communication and disorganization. I was ok with getting pushed to june because of QC issues/third row crap...but now? I think there is little excuse for this.

Needless to say what option do I have? I'm not just walking away from my $5k....but I honestly am second guessing the model S as my next car (model x is for my wife)...much less the model 3 that I put a deposit on.

Elon/Tesla, stop setting expectations for customers then not meeting them. Ever heard of the concept of under promising and over delivering? The exact opposite leads to disappointment, anger, and resentment.

Rant over.

I totally feel you. I'm in the same boat except I don't even get a nice DS with any updates.

I have always felt that if the company does not deliver the car within a reasonable amount of time, they should return the deposit back to the customer.

Sadly, Elon's concept of deadlines is the opposite of what you are suggesting. Over promise and under deliver. They are just tools for him to push his team to meet deadlines as mentioned in the investor conference call.

I don't post much but after reading through this. I will say wow. Guys just chill. You are buying a tesla. I put down deposit for model s in 2010 and I was given delivery date of 2013 feb. Congratulations Mr gill you are getting delivery in December I said when she goes in 2 days. Never applied for loan as tesla wasn't dealing with loans directly neither leases. Are you willing to share who your Seattle DS is? Thanks.

Just got a great email from DS... Car should start production at the end of May and we should be behind the wheel at the end of June. For all the impatient people on this forum.... I am original model s owner and put down a deposit long before there was even a car to see or drive. It was a sort of a "movement" at that time... everyone put a deposit down and everyone bought the stock and prayed this company would change the world. If you think you are waiting long... you would have died on the original s list (no vin, no end in sight, no idea when or if it would happen) ... we all probably waited 2-3 years for the car ... here's how handled the wait...we all just stuck together and were patient and looked at the purchase as an amazing event that would soon change the world for the better. Remember there was a time not too long ago was there wasn't one electric car to be found on the roads anywhere... Now look at us, model s car's everywhere, you can drive cross country without an ounce of gasoline and and now the american dream... the suv of electric cars... the model x. If you really need vs want an suv you can go to the local volvo and chevy dealership and buy one today and drive it off the lot tonight. Tesla compared to ford and chevy a small startup with an amazing dream that's changing the world and keeping us less reliant on middle east oil. be patient and enjoy the wait and your model x friends, trust me it will be here soon and be awesome. If you need to rant... just open the window of your house or apartment and yell .. "i'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" it will make you fell better and then go back to the four and chat with your new best friends nicely

Zoooooom

Here's the thing.

I get it. I put the order in in January...and said to my wife "later this year". I didn't bother from there...just kinda sat back.

Here is where things change....

1. Tesla GIVING me a timeline. Then missing it. Then missing it again....and again. Don't set the standard/bar if you aren't going to meet it. That's not only good business sense...but generally good sense in life when dealing with people.
2. Tesla TELLING me to get my financing ready cause we were getting there. Then I did that, had the bank run my credit...for what? nothing...to get it run again whenever the car gets here. That's more than frustrating. Granted I could've waited till the last second in retrospect, but at the time, why would I have any reason to doubt them?
3. My friend already driving his even after ordering a month after me...i get regional delivery systems...but this one just bothers a bit..the first few are more relevant to what Tesla is doing wrong

It just goes back to my main point. Tell customers "expect august delivery" and let it show in July. Don't string customers along.

On a more broad note...we are early adopters...lovers of technology...we have some logic to try to be patient with this process. If you think this crap is going to fly with the general public come model 3 time, you are very mistaken. People will pull their $1k deposit by the thousands if they do this.

And for the record sir, i hope you love your tesla! all good things to you man....just a discussion among gentlemen.

We ordered the exact same date and we are both close to the factory. Let's see who is going to get the car first. :p

I'm an original S owner too and this is my 3rd Tesla. The difference now, and the reason I didn't put an X deposit 2-3 years ago with the X was announced is because I like to see what I'm buying. I applaud brave folks like you who buy a car unseen or without any details but I'm not that person and I don't think we should assume the general car buying public is so forgiving.

Here is what I expect, and like you said, we all have different expectations when we buying a car. Some are multi millionaires that have multiple vehicles and don't care when their car arrives. Others need a car to do conduct their business and that's the camp I fall in. I sold my S because I was told by Tesla that if you order today, we can get you a car mid-May. Ok, fine, not a big deal to carpool with friends, use Uber, etc. So mid-May is now and I don't even have any outlook as far as when this car is coming. If you told me that you didn't have a good estimate, I wouldn't have sold my S or I would have bought another car.

The difference ordering my S back in 2012 is that we didn't expect the car to come by a certain date. Production didn't start yet, so I didn't expect a car, so I bought another car to drive until that date was known. Now this is a production car where you quote people a short term estimated delivery date.

My only reason for posting this, and I know I'm not going to get my deposit back, but I want Tesla to be a better company. The company they advertise as being a different car company. Not the sleazy dealerships that we all hate walking into with high pressured sales and company policies that are not pro-consumer. If the vehicle is delayed beyond a reasonable amount of time or there is some significant delay in production, give the consumer the option to take their deposit back so they can decide if they want to wait or take their business elsewhere.
